[PT] Strava 2017
SotD
Indeed risky move. Not knowing what they could have been re-signed for, I'd say you could have probably earned something like 2-3mio by selling those 4 riders... Money that could have been well spent on training.

Anthony Roux 80HI would have been a quality 90K waged rider in the PT. And at 2,2mio in training fee I'm pretty sure that it would have been easy for you to make that kinda money from Baugnies, van der Sande, Gilbert and Modolo.

But sometimes it's good to just clean the head completely so one aren't in doubt whether or not to keep those riders that have already been signed.

Good luck in the off season. Looking at the nationalities of your team I guess we could be clashing a bit here and there Smile

A risky decision, especially as I would've loved to have some talks to you about riders you released. Still, the renewed riders all seem very well, which is a good sign for your squad. I trust in you to build, as in the past 2 seasons, a great squad via free agency! I'd bet you won't relegate.

Gutsy move, I like it!

I trust in you to make the most of the situation and sincerely hope I won't run into you when trying to sign my targets Wink

Thanks, that's pretty much my reasoning. I can be pretty indecisive on these issues so I prefer to force myself to make moves now and then. Plus, I had a subpar renewals phase and transfer talks last season, so I want to avoid that in such an important season. Maybe childish but next to the mg transfer talks, work and master thesis schedule will be pretty tense alright.

@viking90: Haha, guess I didn't try to hide my intentions, rebuild time it is. Grin

@croatia: I imagine we could have had good talks, surely in one of the future seasons then. Thanks. I am not that enthusiatic about our chances, but we'll see how it goes.

@Atlantius: haha, thanks. We'll find out about the targets soon enough. Smile

@SN: Van der Sande has been indeed a great help and had some amazing victories. Thanks again for that transfer.

@sgdanny: Yes, we certainly have lots of things to improve on, especially after this renewals. Always fun though to create something new.

I dont like the releases as you give away a competitive advantage (money) without any need to do so. Time issues are of course a good reason to do so but also doesn't make your relegation attempt any easier.

I wish you all the best for transfers, may you build another strong team and surely, we can talk again quite a bit Wink
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

@knockout: Well, I havn't had time to check the DB fully yet, just a quick glance over it what I wrote you back then. Glad I find time to follow Vuelta IRL at least. I think it will work out but no quick offers this time around. Smile

I can appreciate this sort of thing, I don't think I've gone through renewals without chucking out a bunch of leaders either. Pfft

Van der Sande better not end up back in PCT though Angry

Seriously though, you have the budget to do a lot and it'll be really cool to see what you make of it, based on the last season's it'll be something epic, best of luck! Grin

Wink Any new on the development in transfer, with most of the old "top" gone, there must have been a lot of fighting to rebuild ?

SotD
As far as I can tell Strava is looking strong within their focus areas. Whether it's enough at PT level is a fine question, but the transition from just letting the leaders go rather than selling them to get transfer/buying fees have gone well I would say.

Top level puncheur and some strong depth in that area aswell as two subtop sprinters to pick up nice points, with good leadout possibilities. OK'ish cobbled department for minor points. I don't know if anything major is coming in from the FA pool also - I would expect another relatively big signing.

You could say that Smile There has definitely been fair share of fighting in form of biddings and late pushes. but all fair game. Smile Seeing how the transfer market has been rather conservative this season, I think my strategy, in some way worked, but the funds are of course missing in other departments. An extra mil for Baugnies would have surely come in handy.

Excellent analysis as always SotD. Bakelants and/or Ponzi were the targets and I got Bak for a slightly higher price than I would have liked. I'll see how the other riders will fare but it will depend heavily on Bakelants to deliver. I hope it's enough to stay in the division and continue the transformation. Having to (re)build my squad every season for the third year now is sorta a luxury problem that comes with back-to-back, but I'd prefer if I could stay in the same division for once. Wink

I'll post one once it's done. That said, I prefer to let my riders do the talking on the turf. Cool

After another intense transfer period, Strava has finished its third (re-)build within its three years since foundation. Due to the back-to-back promotions, the team has largely been transformed throughout its existence and the challenge of adaption to the PT was the team's greatest to date. Only 7 riders of the team have been with us in the PCT, too (Marzuki excl.). "I wouldn't mind not changing the league for once", Strava's manager said with a wink.

With Bakelants, Guarnieri and Boekmans has three clear-cut leaders. In the mountains and stage races, Strava must hope for lucky breakaways, whilst the once strong forte pavé has been almost completely abandoned after the departure of previous top scorer Jerome Baugnies. Now Strava's longest servicing star rider Langeveld is back in charge of the cobbles department.

At the end of the transfer season, the challenge and question on the team manager's mind is clear: How can the team possibly survive its first year of PT and avoid relegation and finally enter into a period of slow sustainable team growth?

With a high average of 28, an average salary of € 175.000 and a respective median salary of € 52.500, the team counts on the fewvaluable and expensive experience of a few top riders to achieve this task. Alongside with this characteristics, 7 of the 20 riders are from Belgium. For the first time in its team history, Strava shows a clear focus region therefor and may adapt a belgian licence for the coming years.

Backed up a loyal base of domestiques and some classic Strava panache in orange, the team hopes to score plenty in classics and sprints. Thus they follow the M.O. of last season's success story, excepting that Strava switched from the pavé to the hills. With the trainings of Ponzi and the departure of EBH, the hill classics are facing two major disruptions, whereas the exodus of top sprinters to the PCT may benefit the classy 1-2 duo of Guarnieri and Boekmans in the Grand Tours and stage races.

Focus races will include the Monuments Liege Bastogne Liege and Il Lombardia.

Your squad looks quite good for the upcoming season, you'll probably be able to avoid relegation with that squad, although if things go bad in a couple of races, it could become a nightmare for you, but you should be able to avoid that scenario as well. Best of luck mate.

Ian Butler
I hope this squad will deliver for you. Let's not be naive and say staying in PT is guaranteed, but Strava is no ordinary team and it'd be great if you could keep the historic trend and finish 1st or 2nd in league standings

After three months of racing, Strava currently sits at 3rd in the overall rankings. This is down due to great performance in the PTHC races by Guarnieri, Boekmans and Bakelants, as well as some solid performing in most hilly and flat races so far.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Omloop%20Het%20Nieuwsblad/OHN%2033.jpg

Whilst the win remains little so far, numerous top scorings have caused a consistent inflow of plenty points. Unfortunately Bakelants and Guarnieri closely missed the podiums in their respective continental races (Pais Vasco, SAA)and lost valueable points in the fight against relegation.

Highlights so far include:
2nd at Badaling International by Jan Bakelants
1st at Omloop Het Nieuwsblaad by Kris Boekmans
1 stage win at Paris Nice by Jacopo Guarnieri
1 stage win at SAA Tour of Afrique by Jacopo Guarnieri
1 stage win & team classification at Pais Vasco
