Tour de France 2017 | Stage 7 | Troyes - Nuits-Saint-Georges
ivaneurope
Yet another stage for sprinters and the battle for the green jersey is getting temse. Marcel Kittel is set to be Arnaud Démare's main competition following his second stage victory. The French national champion however has 37 points lead over the German Quick Step rider. Michael Matthews and Andre Greipel are way behind and yet to reach 100 points (which will change after this stage).

So Prudhomme thought it was a good idea to literally avoid any kinds of difficulties this terrain would come up with (most blatant in Liege still) in order to be able to say to the public that the green jersey is open. Then they proceed to throw Peter Sagan, which is the very reason they are designing these god awful stages that Kittel has no problem surviving what so ever because he would win the green easily otherwise, out of the race and on top of that, show all these stages from start to finish!

Prudhomme-logic. I can really get angry with him. A Belgian journalist asked why he made so much troubles avoiding all hills in Liege, he said he was just over the moon because a German won. This is the kinda stuff he cares about, not actual racing.

Well it's not Prudhomme's fault they kicked out Sagan and I guess by now, everybody knows that the route is shit. Just lame that people in Germany who only watch ARD will come to think that the sport is relatively "boring" when it has so much to offer, from Classics to Grand Tours there can be so great racing. But then again, they probably are pretty happy with Kittel winning so in a way it's good for cycling to conquer back Germany.

Well, I think it doesn't make too much of a difference. People didn't like the Tour that much anyway.

The people who don't watch the Tour because of Sagan now, are no real fans anyway, so I couldn't care less about them. If you're a fan of cycling, you watch it, no matter the decisions.

The route is shit, yes and also yes, the germans love to see Kittel win. We just need Buchmann to step it up alot, then Germany will be fully behind the Tour again.
I still think, that Germany currently has other problems, looking at Hamburg, but I noticed, that more people I know actually watch the Tour.

And @Riis: Please stop with your conspiracy theories. Prudhomme wanted the green jersey to be interesting again, Sagan fucked up and suddenly, we have the best green jersey fight, we had for a long time.

I can't find the interview with Prudhomme. Please give me a link. I'm certain, that he didn't say it, the way you're saying it.

What conspiracy? Its more or less a fact that Prudhomme has seen that Sagan won green too easily - his solution was to make a bunch of flat sprinter stages and reduce the more hillier days so the likes of Kittel would have a better chance. Its pretty obvious. Just the way he has seen Froome dominating the time trials compared to his competitors. Solution? Less time trials, but also less mountain stages to make it seem 'closer'.

Its fairly standard to see these things in cycling. Unfortunately, because it makes the spectacle worse. Wink

I'm still amazed at how little Quickstep as a team cares about sprints, intermediate and final.
You wouldn't know the best sprinter in the world is on their team if he wore green.

Anyways some of the only good about this race is the Jura. So at least should be a great weekend with some actual, proper racing for more than 10 minutes. Cool

How Sagan fucked up? He was unfairly kicked out of the race and absolute majority of cycling public agrees on that, so i am quite interested where actually he fucked up something?

And tries of Prudhomme to make fight for green intereesting by adjusting rules against strengths of Sagan is well known fact (several changes in points system and now 10+ pan flat stages), not a conspiracy (conspiracy would be the idea that Sagan was kicked out because of it, that would be bullshit and conspiracy).

BORA missing Sagan in lineup sadly also lowers the chance of successful echelon attack strategy, as they would be one of most interested teams.

@Riis: I meant the conspiracy, that it was part of the plan to throw him out.

@Avin: The majority of people is agreeing with the elbow not being used, but still Cav was side by side with Sagan and he closed the door, just forcing Cav into a barrier. Of course, the DSQ is harsh, but it's a "referee"s decision.

And stop with your "they want to weaken Sagan, mimimi"

They did the same with Cav back in the day. That's the only reason, Sagan was that successful. They gave the intermediate sprints much much more importance, because Cav would've dominated otherwise. The green jersey should be for the fastest guy and not for the rider, who can climb and sprint alright.

It's the same in every sport. If someone is unchallanged, they change the rules to make it exciting again. No bias against Sagan there.

Yes exactly. But this year they went to the extreme unfortunately and ironically, Sagan was then kicked out.

Ehm, yeah, that must have been a misunderstanding on your part... I said no such thing at all. That would be plain stupid. Only that ASO and Prudhomme are tailermaking the route to suit certain riders and make it harder for the more dominant ones. Wink

Avin Wargunnson
Green jersey is points jersey, no "best sprinter jersey" Paul...that is why the most consistent point scorer should win it, not the fastest guy on earth.
