Wow I can't believe Arberg found this thread. And then went on to answer the question incorrectly. I think you missed the word 'New'!
But I have to go with him on this one. I don't see anyone getting the better of Froome, and perhaps, more importantly, Sky, at the Tour. Even with all the hype surrounding Porte, he seems to lose from winning positions too often. Nairo didn't seem to have it at the Giro and no one else has a team to come close to the Sky-train. So nope, no new winner at the Tour for me. Might just turn out to be even more boring than last season
Maybe we can have higher hopes for the Vuelta...

Lopéz or Konig for the Vuelta, so yeah, there are higher chances.

Wout Poels for the Vuelta! If Froome wins the tour, maybe Poels will get his shot of being the leader in the Vuelta.

I'm affraid so, but the Tour line-up isn't the easiest for him to deal with and other Vuelta's after a TdF he didn't impress me as much anymore. My hopes are high for a second new Dutch GT winner in one year! Maybe Kelderman can do something as probable leader for Sunweb haha!

It is not about realistic chance of Froome, but the fact that he want it and thus will get it i guess. He will be still the podium candidate at Vuelta like always even after the Tour though
About dutchy winner, i think better chance is with Tommy D and Giro-Vuelta double right?

Neh, Tommy D is going for the WC ITT and perhaps even RR. That's his biggest goal after the Giro this year.
Could maybe see him in the Vuelta but think he won't ride all of it and doesn't want to peek early.

Indeed. The plan was for Sunweb that Dumoulin would lead the Giro with Kelderman as main domestique, and in the Vuelta Kelderman would get his own chance to lead again. He gave a good impression in the Giro until his (inevitable) crash, so I wouldn't be surprised to ride him a good Vuelta in case he miraculously doesn't crash.

Can't wait for the Chaves/Yates/Yates first big big bigly attempt in La Vuelta, if all three stay safe this could be fun The startlist will be packed so they'll have a tough time but the three-pronged attack could be killer. Hope for Adam Yates to show some attacking in GTs near the front,w as unlucky in Giro but Simon has done it in 2 now
Could also be other contenders for this one, but those three have a good chance with some luck and form to mount an attempt for one of them to win it (yes I'm biased )

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

What was up with Chaves at the Tour? I heard about him losing his trainer or something which must be terrible but does that really account for just not being anywhere near his usual abilities? Was he just in really bad-form, and will he be in better form come the Vuelta?

Will they get in each other's way?

Yeah hr lost his trainer and close friend and sldo was returning from a nasty knee injury and was really underdone. Was also his first tour and was just getting used to it (less of an excuse but yeah).
@Abhishkek - a possibility but since I doubt all three will have a perfect first half and they're pretty good team players so I think not

If Landa wins the Tour with Nairo in attendance, the latter might as well give up for good! Not sure if he's going for the Vuelta. The Giro might suit him best and I think I'd bet on him there.

Landa, Quintana and Valverde are all going to the Tour. And there's a mountain WC this year. And Spsnish "coach" wants that all riders in the Spanish team for WC have ridden Vuelta before, so it's a must for Landa to ride Vuelta
