Its a formidable idea, but not downhill. 10-13 uphill segments on the hardest and most important climbs of the race would not only better, but I bet it would be a lot more prestigious as I can't see a lot of riders targeting this prize or whatever it is. The KoM doesn't really determine who the best climber in the race is at this point (you can argue the pink jersey does), so I would really welcome such a competition. That would be pretty intriguing, I think.
.
Dont they just have it already. Sponsors are giving money for a rider who is passing some mountain top's first? |

First over the top doesn't equal fastest time. A break could be first over a climb, but the peloton could go up it quicker chasing them back, for example.
Although to me the KoM isn't supposed to be a "best climber" competition in the same way the Points isn't the "best sprinter" competition. It's a tactical competition that climbers can target when stage or GC glory isn't feasible. Making it a timed event, just run MTT's if you want the "best climber".

No real shock seeing one of the Italian PCT teams trip up and get busted, they don't really have the funds to do it right and beat the tests when stepping up the doping regiment leading into the biggest race of the year for the team, they haven't been having the best year to date and needed the results at the Giro. I wonder if the team survives this, you'd think the main sponsors would be jumping ship if the B samples come back positive.

No they don't, there's a difference between first and fastest as TMM pointed out. Anyways, just as an alternative to the downhill segments - if you are gonna have such a competition, it would be much more interesting uphill. Or just on a random segment on every stage could also be interesting. |

LOL. Reverberi's midgets will be flying.
in 2008 same exact thing happened to Richeze and in the following weeks Sella, Balliani and co took the complete piss out of the whole peloton

Bernal linked to Sky for next year. Can't copy the link for some reason. It's on cyclingweekly.

Do we really need more in race competitions? For instance the Giro has the GC, points, climbers, youth, Intermediate sprint, breakaway, best team and fair play. If we want to find out who's the fastest climber then include a MTT, timing riders on segments to find out who's the fastest climber is flawed, they can draft of teammates and other riders which gives them an advantage whilst in a MTT it's a true test of who's the fastest climber.

I still don't thing ot will motivate GT position riders to keep pushing harder to get that bonus. Still if they are fastest there ..then they will accept that money for sure |

Guys, I don't know if I need to point it out again, but just thinking out loud there. Surely its a lot better than the descent competition, no.
Anyways, thinking about it, I like the random segment every day (maybe 10 kilometres each day) better, I think that could have a lot of potential of breakaway action and people actually targeting that. |

I think that would not do any harm, but question is: do we need that kind of stuff in GT stages to make them interesting? I dont think so, what i see is fine, always somebody going for the break, especially in last two weeks, chasing different goals.

Chris Froome got hit by a car, but seems to be unharmed. He claims that the car hit him on purpose

It's Froome.
So probably running. He never said he was cycling. Training for the Ventoux Challenge! |

Yeah, we don't really do honestly, but playing my game of having to replace that.. weird descending competition in the Giro with something else that included segments, there are a few possibilities that at least would be a lot better than what they came up with. |

Things still are not looking good for MA Lopez. He's not racing Cali either and will now try to return in June.
Alaphilippe also suffering some setback. He'll not be ready for the Tour.

Two of the most bright stars will be missing, thats honestly very bad news for the race. Hopefully both will be able to ride the Vuelta then. |

Is Lopez still dealing with the afterpains of the fight he had with those two bike robbers?

Still two riders that would most likely have minor impact on Le Tour this year...
