I am a bit stunned that Team Wiggins didn't get to ride Tour of Yorkshire.
The new team Bike Channel (former Pedal Heaven) got a spot, and I would think a team like Wiggins had even better riders. OK they don't flash the icon Sir Brad anymore, but with NFTO (very sad) folding the organizers actually cut down on UK teams (if one doesn't count the Irish Aqua)
OK James Know, Latham and Scott Davies starts in Team GB, but that's not really the same.
Whatever with only two major stage races in UK one would think ALL Cont-team from UK/Ireland would get an invitation. Already Ride London is not for those Cont teams anymore since it got lifted to WT.
Still lets see if Tour of Britain picks them.
OK I know what teams shouldn't have been invited ? No clue. Expand to 19 perhaps ??

Friendly reminder that Schachmann won mountain stages last year.

Cavagnel?
Maybe he was one of the riders who valued their health over finishing 10-15 positions higher.

Maybe that or hes rusty with his form as he didnt race a lot before Romandie. Schachmann looked great in Fleche already.
Cavagna is a powerhouse rider that will stage hunt in Tour in the future and maybe win some TT's too. I think theres a real niche with young riders all being either sprinters or GC climbers. We need powerhouse talent. |

He probably took it easy because of the rainy conditions.

Who cares about 30secs in a stage race with mountain stages when you can risk injury by going hard. It makes all the sense to take it easy for top guys.

30 seconds is very long in this years Romandie as both the MTFs are pretty shallow. If I remember correctly, about 4% in average today and 5-6% average on the next one. Thats much, much harder for the best climbers to do damage compared to last year where the MTF's where much steeper.
But overall I agree with the sentiment it would be silly to take unnecessary chances, but I think you needed to do that to win the overall race. |

Time to get you back up to date
Yesterday's stage in Romandie was a pack fail.
Today the pack took no chances and indeed it ended in a sprint.
In Yorkshire Groenewegen takes his first win of the season, outsprinting Ewan and a strong Opie, with Bouhanni in 4th. A mass crash near the end did cause some drama. Kruijswijk down with them, but not too badly hurt seemingly (and hopefully).

Easy win for Yates in the end. Not sure what the pack was thinking when giving that group-Yates a minute.
