Year Long Questions Set 2 - Answers and Points
1) Who will have a better classics campaign - Sagan or Van Avermaet? - Greg Van Avermaet (3 wins)
van Avermaet had a dream classics campaign, winning E3 Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem and Paris-Roubaix, his first ever Monument victory. He also finished second in Ronde Van Vlaanderen. Sagan on the other hand, had to be content with a couple of podium places.
2) Who will have the best classics campaign besides Sagan and GVA? - Philippe Gilbert (2 wins, 2 Second)
The Belgian veteran thoroughly outclassed his opponents in the races that he won. The Belgian won Ronde Van Vlaanderen and Amstel Giold Race, winning both on cobbles and in the hills of Ardennes. He also claimed second place in Dwaars door Vlaanderen and E3 Harelbeke. Too bad he missed the last two races with injury. Kwiatkowski too, was a contender here, with a win in Milan-San Remo and podiums in Amstel Gold Race and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Valverde won his pet races of La Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege but Gilbert with a better overall classics season.
3) Will any rider win more than one race? If yes, who? - Yes. Greg Van Avermaet, Philippe Gilbert, Alejandro Valverde
GVA, Gilbert and Valverde picked up 3, 2 and 2 wins, respectively.
4) Will Valverde win any of Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege? - Yes
In fact, he won both Fleche Wallone and LBL. No one came close in the sprints to the line.
5) Which WT team will be most successful in these classics races? - BMC, Quickstep (3 wins)
Yves Lampaert's win in Dwars door Vlaanderen added to Gilbert's two wins gave Quickstep three wins in the classics. GVA himself took all of BMC's three wins.
Scoring (with correct answer numbers in bracket)
Emre | 50 (4,5) | Marco | 75 (1,4,5) | Selwink | 65 (3, 4) | Purepasd | 25 (5) | Croatia | 25 (1) | Jandal | 90 (1,3a,4,5) | Raziz | 50 (4,5) | Abhishek | 50 (1,5) | Luxemburger | 50 (1,4) | Aquarius | 15 (3a) |
Valverde winning one of the three Ardennes races and Quikstep being the most successful team in the clasiccs were the most popuplar picks. The members were split between Sagan and GVA having a better campaign. No one picked Gilbert to be the best of the rest (although both Kwiatkowski and Valverde were picked). Vanmarcke was a popular choice for question 2 but he had a shocking month of racing.
The updated table looks like this:
Name | Races Entered | Bonuses | Total Points | Raziz | 18 | 220 | 625 | Selwink | 18 | 235 | 595 | jandal7 | 17 | 210 | 570 | purepasd | 18 | 175 | 510 | Marcovdw | 18 | 135 | 490 | AbhishekLFC | 17 | 150 | 475 | emre99 | 17 | 165 | 460 | Aquarius | 12 | 105 | 425 | Luxemburger | 7 | 90 | 165 | Croatia14 | 18 | 105 | 140 | Squire | 4 | 60 | 100 | Ian Butler | 1 | 0 | 50 | trekbmc | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Selwink closes the gap on Raziz but Jandal closes in on them both, while overtaking Purepasd, with the win here. Marco overtakes Abhishek into 5th place. Is this the first sign of a challenge coming from the defending champ? Aquarius has a bad haul and loses ground on those above, although his points per race is quite commendable. Jandal, Selwink and Raziz move past the 200 bonus points mark.
Spoiler Made a mistake with Jandal's score earlier. Corrected now.

Me and Marco coming back for our rightful spots in the top two (reverse from last season please ). Hoping to repeat my Vuelta domination (55 points on my nearest rival, exactly enough for the lead this year ) for the Giro but actually expect super-low scoring there for most people. Wait no, because we changed the rules so you get points for anywhere in the top 5. Guess my brag about getting last year's podium right could actually work with these rules...
So guys btw be scared last year I got the Giro podium right

erm, how many perfect podium predictions are there in the entire year?
If you correctly guess the podium, you can have double points in every race! Plus you also get double for correctly predicting the various classifications in each GT.
You can have a re-look at the rules in the first post of this thread for clarifications, or ask here or in PM if you still have further doubts.
I wanted to ask if anyone has done it besides me

Ohhhhh
I think 7 so far. You got it in Omloop. Me and Aquarius in Pais Vasco and the four at LBL. Funnily enough you, me and Aqua are all in the bottom half of the table. Jandal being the super-predictor does not need perfect scores to challenge at the top apparently

Perfect scores are for people who are having trouble hanging onto their lead over me

So I'm the only one to have two perfect scores, and i'm standing in eight place. Viva la logica!
Pd: I'm aware that i've missed a initial part of the season

Results for Romandie and Finanzplatz to be out tomorrow. Giro game to be open from tomorrow as well. There might be a third set of year long questions too if we get the time to make them.

Podium
1) Richie Porte
2) Simon Yates
3) Primoz Roglic
Answer to Bonus Question: Who will win the Points jersey? is Stefan Kung
Richie Porte was a hugely popular pick with 7 out of the 10 predictors picking him for the podium. Second placed Simon Yates was only selected by two members, Croatia and Ian, who incidentally had no other podium finisher among their picks. Only Emre, Purepasd and Aquarius had picked Roglic, and the former duo also had Porte in their team, giving the win in this race. Aquarius had no other podium finisher as a pick. Six members had picked Froome for the podium, and three had picked him as the points jersey winner, despite his sketchy form, and he failed to deliver once again, finishing only 18th and 17th in the two classifications, respectively.
The updated points table will be posted along with the results of Finanzplatz. Stay tuned...

Rund um den Finanzplatz Results
Podium
1) Alexander Kristoff
2) Rick Zabel
3) John Degenkolb
This first time World Tour race saw big guns Sagan, Kittel and Greipel pull out because of bad weather early on. All three were very popular picks among members. Among the podium finishers, Degenkolb was the most popular with five picks. No one picked surprise package Zabel while Kristoff had three picks. Incidentally, all three who picked Kristoff - Purepasd, Croatia and Aquarius - also picked Degenkolb, and they win this race. Emre, Selwink, Raziz and Abhishek pick up no points from this race.
The table now looks like this:
Name | Races Entered | Bonuses | Total Points | Raziz | 20 | 220 | 645 | Selwink | 20 | 235 | 615 | jandal7 | 19 | 210 | 595 | purepasd | 20 | 175 | 560 | Marcovdw | 20 | 135 | 515 | AbhishekLFC | 19 | 150 | 495 | emre99 | 19 | 165 | 485 | Aquarius | 14 | 105 | 455 | Croatia14 | 20 | 105 | 175 | Luxemburger | 7 | 90 | 165 | Squire | 4 | 60 | 100 | Ian Butler | 2 | 0 | 60 | trekbmc | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Raziz and Selwink pick up identical points this weekend and the gap remains at 30 points at the top. The gap between Jandal and Purepasd for third is halved from the last update, the latter winning both races since. Aquarius continues his brilliant run, pulling in closer to Abhishek and Emre, who had a bad weekend. Croatia moves back ahead of Luxemburger.
