RIP Pretty much exactly what Kirchen said, bit lost for words
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

RIP
This tragedy will be devastating especially for Astana - this comes weeks before the 100th Giro d'Italia where he was selected as their leader after Aru got injured.

Indeed he's been incredibly strong superdomestique last few years and I was really excited to see him lead the 100th Giro. Terrible news

Man that was unexpected... what a tragic way to go to the other side! RIP
As a cyclist he was always an entertaining rider, even if troubled by doping issues in the past.

Stunned and all of a sudden the morning coffee wasn't any good.
Couldn't believe it at first, but after reading several news it had to be true.
Poor bloke just been given another shot at the big time. Expected to be the Astana captain for the 100 Giro.
Perhaps one of his last years on the roads as a pro and it all ends like this.
Question was it another crazy driver in disregard for cyclists on the road ?
The joy and height of the season in LBL suddenly got another viewpoint and not that fun anymore.

According to cyclingnews:
According to reports in local media and Gazzetta dello Sport, the 37-year-old Astana rider had left home for a short ride after finishing the Tour of the Alps on Friday and returning to his home in Filottrano in the central Le Marche region of Italy. He was reportedly hit by a van at a crossroads after the driver failed to see him.
Can't find any words otherwise. Just look at this lovely pic man, seriously.
Rest in peace Michele

Can't believe that news. A rare breed- a rider who stayed at the top level for a long, long time. I mean, he was set to lead at the Giro at 37.
RIP.

I also have no words as I live in Italy and Michele was one of my favourite cyclists since 2008, and then in 2009 after the retirement of Simoni became my absolute favourite. He could battle along with Contador and in his later career years supported his teammates. But a lot of fans will be disappointed and shocked also because he was truly one of the most friendly riders in the peloton, being always ready to make some jokes. So we Italian fans are almost in tears because we knew him also from many interviews and what he did to help Nibali winning the Tour in 2014 will rest in history as the memory of him. |

Horrible news, this is just terrible. In the first place for his friends and family, but also to the cycling community. For me he's one of the more likeable Italian cyclists, great sense of humour sometimes and a hard worker. Won the Giro, but didn't complain about becoming a domestiue when he got over. I was even looking forward to seeing him lead again in the upcoming Giro
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Sort of a comfort that I saw danish TV pay homage to him just now, he will be remembered.
