Great day by Manuel Martínez.

A Crash may not be the glorified way to advance in CG, but in a few weeks everyone will forget and the Podium still stand Wink

Great day for the team and Martínez indeed, too bad he just couldn't finish it off.

Tamijo: not the usual way of improving your GC position indeed but we worked for it and crashing is just a part of the sport. Getting a GC podium with Chávarri would be great after a pretty average rage. Smile

Thanks Aquarius, do you mean the jerseys? Smile

A very good season for Sam so far, 6th in Paris-Nice and 5th in Romandie. Hopefully a podium in California can be the icing on the cake for the first half of his season before peaking to la Vuelta later. Wink

Thank you guys! A really nice result to conclude this race indeed, going faster than Dumoulin, Malori, Mullen and his Belgian rival Campenaerts. And his top 5 is another step forward compared to last season. Smile

Quintero and Tamulis set up the break of the day once again. This time 2 Italians were their partners: Matteo Montaguti and Simone Andreetta.

Two kilometers from the finish line, the four still had 40". Their journey would come to an ending in the closing hectometers of this year's race.

Our train had a hard time in the final kms. Eventually, Juan Sebastian Molano finished in 4th as the stage was a prey for Jonas Dal Korsholm.

Thanks Aquarius! It's quite obvious Izagirre will lead our team here, and the TT kms in this route should suit him. Last year he came fourth, and repeating that would be a big achievement. Our primary (sponsor) goal though is a stage win, as for the GC I'd be delighted with any top 10 to top 5 spot. Smile

Thanks sutty! I hope that after the race, we'll be able to declare that we were with the men. Wink

Thanks Tamijo! It's a solid but not too strong squad, but no doubt each rider will give everything he's got. Smile

Nibali is already 34 and has (started to) decline(d). Last year he came 24th and won a stage, before finishing 7th in le Tour. If you ask me Quintana, Landa and Pinot are the main podium contenders, but only the Colombian has already won at this level (3x Giro, 1x TDF, 1x Vuelta).

First Fight for Pink
i.imgur.com/DczV4kk.png
Three out of the 198 starters got into the inaugural breakaway: Perrett, Flakemore and Lander. Most probably, these three only going to decide whose shoulders la maglia azzurra will be on during the upcoming TTT.
i.imgur.com/Ac4gMsD.png
Perrett won the first KoM sprint, 50 kms from the finish. Gap was 3'20".
i.imgur.com/2FpdUas.png
At the same ascent a short strike of panic hit us. Ion Izagirre suffered a fall, but luckily he managed to avoid colliding with a crash barrier too.
i.imgur.com/VtqyiI1.png
Campbell Flakemore was the best at the second and last KoM sprint of the day. Perrett only came third this time, which means the Australian's going to be in a royal blue mountain jersey during at least the next two stages. A peloton with Ion Izagirre sat at 1'20", 20 kms from the finish.
i.imgur.com/rew0fvh.png
The trio got caught at the final climb. What followed was a nervous and messy sprint preparation. Our train for Aridani Tinajero was hindered a bit by an Astana rider dropping back. Top favourites Niccolo Bonifazio and Fernando Gaviria got boxed in, which allowed Sbaragli to claim the first Maglia Rosa here in Napoli, with his fourth stage win of the season.
