Aru is now slated for Tour leadership with Fuglsang.
Scarponi basically becomes a defacto leader in name due to no other big riders of theirs being in shape to tackled a GC. If you could get in shape this fast, Aru would still be going.
Fully expect Kangert to go better than Scarponi anyway and take over leadership GC wise, although the team is more likely to be stage hunting. And with Moser, LLS and Tiralongo as well they should bag a couple of wins.
LuLu winning again? an man can dream <3

Cavendish a nice guy? Sure
But it is a shame to see any rider to suffer from illness and season possibly ruined...
Yeah, he's a nice guy. He may be rough, but he's nice and really liked by all of his teammates. Tony still occasionally talks with him. ot the moment to judge
Correct..Cav is nice guy. i just finished he's book. And he is sprinter. Unexpected for any physical number still keep beating Watt machine monsters and still is one of fastest guy in the world. If you see him annoying and angry against reporters then this is not the moment to judge person after a sprint finish..when adrenalin is pumping and he is looking teammates to thank not answer same annoying question same time.
He has offered many times much bigger salary..but he has stayed with teams, and team mates he really liked. |

well the World Track Champions started today, that'll generate some news i'm sure.
For example: The change to Team Prusuit qualification schedule has already caused one crash and various related controversy and very little support.

I sure am amused to understand that most cycling media believes Mononucleosis is some sort of rare cancer or the cause of the zombie apocalypse. Cav should think about shaving his hair ahead of his gruesome ibuprofen treatment.

A sprint win is not the same as winning on La Touissuire or Tignes solo as was the case for Michael Rasmussen in 2006 and 2007, for example. They mean more. Im sure you (and others) are able to understand that |

Don't you mean that they are more important to you? Not everybody rates sprinters as lowly as you do. I think Cavendish's record is phenomenal and just because he wins on the flat in a bunch doesn't make his wins any less worthy, so Rasmussen wins solo to La Toussuire which is something Cavendish couldn't do, I don't ever remember watching Rasmussen going toe to toe with a massive bunch of riders weaving through tiny gaps, bumping shoulders all whilst going at huge speeds to cross the line first.

I had it last year and it sure wasn't nice feeling exhausted all the time but yeah the cycling media are overplaying quite a bit, he'll be fine after a good period of rest.

And some of Merkcx's stage wins should count for two anyways.
TdF flat stages are not boring at all, during last years they brought a shitload of excitement. (much more than somewhat boring SKY directed mountain stages, where everybody was too scared to attack).

No, all the stage wins have exactly same value and you need to be great cyclist to win them.

Ok, we simply disagree on that one then. Some victories are remembered forever, some are just another number. And no, I don't necessarily think you need to be a 'great' cyclist to win a stage in the TdF - many stages in this day and age (in the mountains) are uncontested by the peloton. |

Differing in opinion as well. I'd rather watch a selective road stage, you'd rather watch a sprint stage. Thats just personal preferences. |

Yeah, personal preferences ofc differ from person to person.
But maybe if you tried not to present you personal preferences as actual facts, we could be argueing less and others too.

Maybe it's because stages that end with a bunch sprint often travel through boring landescapes or industrial zones.
And while still quite a feat you gotta admit that a MTF win looks better than a sprint win in some industrial zone. The shots from the helicopter e.g.
Ok...next try...do you sit through 6 hours of TV coverage of a whole flat stage?
I got from the forums that some of you do that on prestigeous mountain stages. |

Yeah, honestly I generally only watch an hour or two of most flat stages, even in the biggest races. It's not worth waking up earlier for me to watch status quo for 4 hours. Mountain stages are more exciting for me personally. As thrilling as sprint finishes can be, they last a way shorter time frame than a good mountain stage. That's my personal perspective.

okay try to name all the Mountain Stage winners from the 2011 Tour de France? I understand that "some" stages live forever e.g. Schleck vs Contador on the Tourmalet (i was there it was awesome" :roll but in the coming years nobody will remember if Thomas De Gendt won his stage last year on a mountain top or a rolling stage or a flat stage.
My point being that all the stages have the value and once your a stage winner no one can take it away from you be sprint/break/mountain they all count as 1 |

Sammy Sanchez won on Luz Ardiden, Vanendert on Plateau de Beille, Schleck on the Galibier stage, and Pierre Rolland on Alpe d'Huez. I'll admit I can't remember the more in betweener stages, except the crazy breakaway stage that EBH took. Not sure where it went to but it wasn't an MTF.

Less people would if it hadn't been on Mont Ventoux.
I do agree with your point though. The outcome of sprinter stages are often unpredictable as hell. So winning them is an art in itself. Especially when we're talking about Cavendish's record in TDF, the most nervous race on the calendar.

Hey hey, I am not pro mountain stages or contra flat stages.
After all even a classic mountain stage can be ruined by the wrong rider winning it. |
