Paris-Roubaix 2017

Agreed, but the iconic Roubaix images are of riders covered in mud and fighting through puddles and rain. Dry races have their merits, but wet Roubaix races require a completely different skill set to win.

I can't remember the last truly muddy Roubaix race. You need at least one every few years and I just think we are due a muddy Roubaix.

There are some riders who are considered great classics riders in the current peloton who have never raced at a wet Paris Roubaix.

The last truly muddy Roubaix was 2002 so I do agree a wet one soon would be a nice change.
Really looking forward to this years race as we don't have any one stand out favourite and as last year showed we don't need the absolute favourites battling it out to make the race a memorable one. It's a real pity Vanmarcke is injured for this one, he really lit up last years race on the final cobbled sectors and is a proper cobbled classics hardman.

C'mon guys, you know as soon as it got wet and muddy the Extreme Weather Protocol would come in and the race would be castrated Pfft

Although one of my favorite parts about Roubaix is that for the most part cobbles are cobbles, not lined with a path riders can use to make it easier. As i mentioned UCI idiocy thought i'd squeeze another bit in Pfft

I'd also prefer a muddy edition for once, it's been too long. It's a completely different race then and I don't think it's too much to ask for after 15 years..

That has nothing to do with climate change.

No, it's Obama's fault and climate change is a Chinese hoax.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I have to say that i would like to hear the Paul's theory about which cause is more likely than climate change. As i know him, he have some brilliant one right in his sleeve, it would be shame to not enlighten us all. Smile

I remember some muddy editions, but as others said, those were not special just because of that weather, there are bigger factors for a good race than weather. But yeah, for a change it would be interesting once again
I'll be back

If Laporte doesn't win, Durbridge will. Grin

Maybe that's a little too far, but he's a good shot for a top 5 given the form he's in, maybe (maybe) even a podium (or win Pfft). Grin

Sagan doesn't feel great, or so he says, and coupled with his less than stellar performance in this race, it would be a surprise should he win on the Velodrome at this point

I rate his sprint lesser than Kristoff, Demare, Degenkolb, GVA and Boonen should they enter the velodrome together

Riis123
Démare could also possibly do very well in this race I think, maybe even win it Degenkolb-style in 2015.

what the fuck to I rerad in the P-R thread Grin rooting for Stybs I guess, but I fear that QuickStep will ride for Boonen, who won't stand a chance against the best though - still Tommeke deserves to get this chance one last time!

Most uninformed post of the year

Stybar is bad this year, Tommeke has only has this race ind mind for a year and he is better prepared than he has been in a long time. I would have respected your post more if you had referred to Terpstra who got a legit shot at winning this race and is one of the favourites/big outsiders, Stybar aint.

Riis123
Still, most weak startlist I can remember, no Canc and Sep on the startlist and only a past his prime Boonen who is a really expert on flat cobbles like those 2. I guess Degenkolb also is, last time he was dropped on the pavé was in 2013.
