Stage 2/6, 191.7 kms
i.imgur.com/ZIp1bGE.png
So this is what flat stages look like in French-speaking Switzerland. The first and last chance for sprinters, which is also th reason why Barbero will only be riding this stage before dropping out and preparing le Tour.
i.imgur.com/fj1NM9j.png
Seven escapees quickly got 1'30", but as from that moment they had to fight for every second. The 7 leaders had to keep up such a brutal pace to keep their gap that Michele Millan had to let the other six go already.
i.imgur.com/kI4mq8q.png
In the background, José Gonçalves was involved in a crash along with some others. Biggest name among them was Chevrier, current GC 7th. Despite a two-minute gap they'd all manage to catch up with the bunch.
i.imgur.com/j4CuYOO.png
The pace remained high for a while, and the breakaway was reduced to four members. Boem, Hardy, Sjors Roosen and Datsenko were left and only fought for some KoM points that did not suffice to claim the jersey.
i.imgur.com/l0RkPWn.png
The sprinter teams did their job and reeled them in, but no other team had so many guys near the front as we did. Matthews and Gaviria were both on their own, while Barbero could count on 2 guys in front of him.
i.imgur.com/S1VusJB.png
Matthews accelerated very early, at the uphill sector just before the last kilometer. Barbero left the wheel of Bilbao as he had to wait for a gap to open up somewhere, then one did at the left hand side of the road...
i.imgur.com/Zdl9Lu9.png
As soon as he had found the gap there was just no stopping him today. Barbero secured his third victory of the year, over Bokeloh and Gaviria.

Thanks! For the next stage we're counting on Ion Izagirre and Vandenborre. Both are riding their last prep race before a big goal so their shape should be fine. And Ion came in 6th overall in last year's edition. Smile

Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey (2.HC) i.imgur.com/zMBJxFz.png
Stage 4/8, 130.4 kms
i.imgur.com/tRQr2PS.png
Almost halfway there, and this fourth stage is one of the few remaining oppurtunities to change anything in the overall standings. All climbs are short but especially the last could cause time gaps if anyone's the best.
i.imgur.com/Min33qt.png
Rosskopf and Tamulis just can't stop attacking, they joined the break of the day again. This time Rivero and Cipriano were their partners. At the only categorised hill, the former got enough points to stay in the jersey.
i.imgur.com/0OwKw4V.png
Tamulis definitively lost contact 50 kms from the finish. It was not a big surprise as he had been the weakest link in the breakaway all day long.
i.imgur.com/gcCoeZZ.png
Cipranio proved to be the strongest as he dropped the other two at the penultimate climb. They would come back in the descent, but had to let go of him again on the flat. The bunch sat already at only 1'30" though.
i.imgur.com/CafYNgE.png
Cipriano got caught on the final climb, right before Suaza attacked with van der Poel on his wheel. Chávarri had to surpass some fading riders, and he'd come too late to respond. Same story for GC first Eijkelkamp.
i.imgur.com/BwbJUtl.png
Van der Poel easily won the sprint and secured both the stage and the provisional overall lead. In the end the duo got 40 seconds on the pack.

Tour de Romandie (WT) i.imgur.com/xFpGiMO.png
Stage 3/6, 183.5 kms
i.imgur.com/cSit3aZ.png
Five second category climbs and a first category one but yet it's still not sufficient to receive the queen stage label. Yet today could still turn the current GC standings upside down or separate the chaff from the grain.
i.imgur.com/71UVLx6.png
A breakaway group was formed at the first of today's climbs. Originally they were seven but before the top Gaudin and Ledoux had lost contact already. The former would catch up in the descent and rejoined Jacobs, Colla, Martinelli, GC 12th Robert Power and Datsenko in the front sextet.
i.imgur.com/llyYD5p.png
Next up was the 1310 m Mont Aubert. Gaudin was dropped mercilessly, and Datsenko suffered an identical fate at the next, very steep 1311 m Creux du Van climb. Jacobs and Martinelli climbed surprisingly strongly.
i.imgur.com/I6nsL9K.png
Jacobs was the next to lose contact at the climb to Chaumont (1171m). The trio that was left at the front had about 4'30" left on a peloton that had been reduced to 68 guys, Vandenborre and Izagirre still included.
i.imgur.com/eGvqPzt.png
The leading trio soon became a duo, because Martinelli had to let go as well. Colla and Power dropped him only 2 kilometers after getting rid of Jacobs and kept their advantage at around 4 minutes. In the meantime another 20 riders had been dropped from a now quickly shrinking pack.
i.imgur.com/36oGFF4.png
While the duo in front remained together, accelerations from the bunch started to take place at the toughest of today's climbs. The 1494 m Col du Chasseral saw Chamarro and Tatarinov try first, but 2 kms from the summit overall leader Pardo launched his much more energetic attack.
i.imgur.com/qFqrhff.png
None of the GC guys could keep up or bridge, and in the descent Pardo reeled in Colla and Power. Both of them had to give their all to keep up with him downhill. A group with Landa sat 44" back, the bunch at 1'12".
i.imgur.com/0ZIT2gH.png
Pardo dropped Colla and Power at the final climb but then got reeled in himself by Aru, Landa and Ghilardi. When the group behind was closing in, the young Swiss, clothed in a white jersey, attacked his companions.
i.imgur.com/kdTyzFM.png
Only Aru tried to follow but just like Landa and Pardo he could not keep up; the two latter got caught by Vandenborre, who had very solid legs.
i.imgur.com/i0stwDx.png
Ghilardi reached the last top with 20" on Aru and 59" on Vandenborre. A stage victory was up for grabs, in the descent to La Chaux-de-Fonds.
i.imgur.com/OowlkIu.png
The 23-year old Danilo Ghilardi gave the Swiss fans a perfect day as he both won the stage and became the new yellow jersey. Aru came home together with Vandenborre, 54" later, the third group finished at 1'29".

Stage 5/8, 189 kms
i.imgur.com/jkc7JMv.png
Stage 5 has been categorised as flat, but still there are many climbs to conquer. The hardest do appear in the opening half of the race though.
i.imgur.com/pNrmgJE.png
Cortes attacked at the first climb, along with Evans, Alafaci, Yáñez and Tusveld. Apart from that it was a horribly predictable stage. Despite the 8-minute gap none of the escapees came even close to a stage victory.
i.imgur.com/lPlyFlB.png
All our sprinters were dropped due to the high pace. Chávarri survived and remarkably sprinted to a third position, behind Bakelants and stage winner Vallée. Too bad, no bonification seconds are awarded in Turkey.

The final stage is a flat 16-km TT, but there are 2 more mountain stages left before that. Sam should be the better TT-ist but the difference is nog that big, so he needs to move closer before the final stage. Wink

Moving fast here, hard to keep up

Supreeme stage win in 2nd stage, Romandie.

A little disappointing with a 40” loss at an relative easy 4th stage in Turkey, but no gamebraker.

And then a great 3rd in Romandie moving to very top of GC - SO NICE

An then a fine podium at 5th in Turkey

All in all some very good days for the team.

Some very good days indeed, especially at WT level in Romandie, as Turkey's still a little disappointment for us so far. Wink

Keep whatever pace you prefer - not a problem, can make a "more than one stage reply" as I just did.

If you got the time no reason to slow down, takes a lot of time to cover just one season anyway.
