No, I rate guys like Rominger, Zulle, etc a lot higher as stage racers. Come to think of it, even Quintana falls in that category!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I'll work on Sagan next Wink

You mean the guy i hyped as next big thing in cycling and then he became the biggest thing in cycling? Yeah, that was massive overhype and all that laughter was justified. Wink

He'll win it at some point.

Yeah, I thought of those two, also Poulidor is up there.

Harsh on Piti, who's got 1 GT win, 7 GT podiums and 6 GT Top10's. Plus something like 17 non-GT Stage Wins. Makes him one of the most successful stage racers of all time in numbers, quality, longevity and unique in his One-Day success in the post-2000 period.
His palmares is definitely ahead of Zulle (2 GT wins, 3 GT Podiums, 3 GT Top10's, about 10 non GT Stage Wins)

To be honest, in his first years, I saw Sagan win all 5 monuments. He's only got 1 so far. Don't worry about San Remo, he'll win that at some point. But he hasn't entirely convinced me in Roubaix yet. Both Liege and Lombardia will be really hard for him. To be honest I no longer think he can do it (while I do respect his green jerseys, double WC and several other wins).

To be honest, i have never thought he can win all monuments...days when a rider can do that are gone for decades. Maybe if he targeted just single big goal for each year, not many targets. I still think he exceeded expectations, given the reality of modern cycling.

The hype-train has already left, its too late.

All it takes it takes is a Froome crash or sickness. I obviously don't think he will win mano-a-mano against him, but Quintana is riding in Italy during May and Contador is getting older. They might not be at the level we expect, who knows. And I would still bet on a 100%, rocket fueled Valverde in TdF over Chaves, Bardet and Porte.

So that, ladies and gentlemen, is Valverde winning the Tour. You heard it here on PCMDaily which you will tell your grand children! Lets remember, Valverde could still win TdF 5 times in a row before he was older than Hornet. Food for thought, food for thought.

Edit: And if Valverde won't win its because Movistar and Unzue was right and Quintana actually was better in the 2nd GT hence him sacrificing himself. Meanwhile, he will obviously win La Vuelta. What did he win in 2009 when the won the Vuelta? Yes, thats right, the Volta a Catalunya. 8 years ago... and what was the names of the finishing climbs in 2009? Xorret de Cati, Sierra Nevada, La Pandera... its happening, the circle is completed.

Edit 2: I will also be happy about a Pais Vasco win and yet another Fléche Líege combo. Pfft he desperately needs to win Pais Vasco, I can't understand how he has managed not to so far.

his time trial has never been good enough to win it and there are no time bonuses

It's hard to win a race if you have only ridden it twice in the last 9 years

I'd think he has ridden it 6-7 in his career.

And I definitely do think his time trial is good enough. Pais Vasco always have shortish and extremely hilly time trials, so he should be able to do well or even win such a time trial.

Valverde won Vuelta 2009 because Evans got punctured at the worst possible moment and it took pretty looooooong that change of the wheel (the same time as was the time margin between Evans and Valverde at the end). There is somewhere a video how long he was waiting. But yeah Valverde won I am just saying Pfft

Operación Puerto...but yeah Valverde won, i am just saying...you can be still proud on your doper.

Lol Avin, Sagan doesn't seem the cleanest of clean either now does he?

I can't believe it. Unfounded doping accusations that don't involve Team Sky. That's a first for this forum Smile

Everyone dopes you dipshishits, everyone is micro dossing latest stuff who cares

People only care about Sky cause of their whole hypocritical image of being super clean, no other teams claim to be as clean as Sky

Now they got found out maybe they will stop fucking talking about marginal gains ever again and just be like a normal omerta team ffs more people will come to like them

Oh...how cheap, to change the topic to another rider, combined with "fan pun".
Personally i doubt Sagan is clean of the cleanest, but i can give him better benefit of the doubt than proven doper, who never confessed or regret. And doped in the time when he won his only GT...

Haha, good one. Pfft

Avin, I think the cheap one is you of the two of us in this instance. We know Valverde doped, we know he was caught, we know he most likely dopes. Lets accept it for what it is and move on. We know its close to impossible to do great things in this sport cleanly, most likely impossible. Valverde was just unlucky he was caught, thats it.
