Is it possible to compare somewhere Contador vs Alaphilippe times during the climb? Who was faster?

The intermediate checkpoint was right before the climb. Alaphilippe lost 8 seconds between that and the finish.

But what does that tell you ?, that he misjudge the stage, being to slow on the flat, that he was to chicken in the curves?

The only thing it tell me is that he was the 2nd best today.

That's not too bad considering he's coming back from illness.

Lol, Contador is always coming back from illness or not feeling well. Don't put too much stock into it. Wink

Ala is born on a bike, what a superstar!

Nah, they are great fun as long as they aren't super short or team time trials

2nd is not bad, just trying so say that you can't split the stage to say he was stronger on the last part.

If Alberto had been faster on the first part, he would most likely have been slower on the second, or the other way round if Julian.....ect.

Unsurprisingly, Alaphilippe is a better rouleur, while Contador is a better climber.
Simple as that, no random "what if"s, no bias, no splitting hairs.

ya, will be interesting in the coming day to see who got the legs in the mountains.
Also other rider are close enough if ala can't hold.

Intense uphill start today before a flatter run to some more longer climbs then a sharp rise to the line. Strong break is clear after such a start:

De Marchi (BMC), Domont (ALM), Anacona y Jo Herrada (MOV), Valgren (AST), Swift (UAE), Chavanel (DEN) y Sepulveda (FVC).

This is the first stage I've really watched live all the way through this year if I'm being honest, and it did not disappoint for a March race.

Contador put in kind of an uncharacteristic ride to power people off his wheel rather than attacking, and he looks great for GC, but obviously Porte was the best. Henao might have dug too deep early, and tremendous ride by Dan martin who looked like he was about to falter when the group was at 7-8 but ended up taking third by hanging around.

Sad I missed Tirreno but since I'm really busy these days, I'm glad I got to catch this one.

Barring some bad luck which with Henao is very much possible, tomorrow may be finally his first stage race win. <3 <3 <3

Attacking on the Peille already and dropping both Henao and Martin is great.

The descent should see them re-group potentially but the Col d'Eze then is another chance and he knows that he is strongest, which should help him.

Shame ESP is neither on T-A or P-N yet even though it`s 12km and 45km to the finish only...
