Phil Gil finally seems to have found some shape. 2 amazing days from him!
Imagine his palmares if he never rode for BMC
Yes, it fucked him unfortunately. What happened man..
Because 2 Giro + 3 Veulta Stages, a World Championship and an AGR plus high level consistency in WT and prestige classics is a complete failure
That's about what he averaged over 2009-2010-2011

He was a shadow of his former self.
Went from being the most dominant rider in the world in 2011 to 5 very mediocre years by his standards (yes, he won worlds, still mediocre). Good that he enjoys racing again.
Edit: As a matter of fact, Gilbert's 2011 season was still the best I have witnessed. Better than Boonen in 05 and 12, better than Canc in 10, better than Wiggo 12, Froome 13, Sagan 16 etc.

How bout Cavendish 09. Milan San Remo, 6 Tour stages, 4 Giro stages, 24 wins in total Not saying it's better than Gilbert, just deserves to be mentioned with the above.
I agree that Gilbert's 2011 season was amazing. It does probably edge all of the above and, given the level of cycling these days, the 3 Ardennes classics in one year achievement will probably not be done again for a very long time, if ever.

Indeed incredible achievement, but i am not sure why is everybody praising Gilbert himself, since Dr. Ibarguren has probably similar importance in this feat. Those two should be mentioned in pair, when talking about 2011 triple...

Ibarguren wasn't there in 2009 and 2010 and he was just as great those years

Sounds easy...but all we know that QuickStep, last years, found the way to be a mess in spring classics.
Really hope, this years will be different. |

I cant agree, he was on the different planet in 2011. Btw iirc Dr. Taus was with Omega Pharma since 2010?

Yes. It's also their fault for Brexit, Donald Trump and the middle eastern refugee crisis.

I heard in a quick interview after the TT that he even crashed during the climb.

Is it possible to compare somewhere Contador vs Alaphilippe times during the climb? Who was faster? |
