We will get to see this awesome race on Saturday. Really a modern classic, this race has quickly made its mark and was rewarded with a WT-status.
Definitely one of my absolute favourite races. Its be beautiful and demanding, but the best thing about it is that it gives so many different types of riders a realistic shot at winning. From the more versatile and hard nosed GC-riders such as Nibali, to Ardennes-specialists such as Valverde and Kwito, Flemish-specialists such as Sagan and GVA and the best allrounders.
The favourites are the usual suspects: Sagan, Stybar, GVA, Kwiatkowski. Outsiders count Felline, Stuyven, Rosa, Moscon, Ulissi Vanmarcke, Urán, Nibali, Benoot, Wellens etc. (if wet), maybe even the likes of Dumoulin and Pinot. |

Im pretty sure he already have won, no?
My guess is Sagan, GVA and either one of Kwito/Stybar duel. Valverde unfortunately doesn't participate with Paris-Nice coming up, so I will be rooting for the young Belgians (Benoot, Wellens and Stuyven) and Moscon I think. |

Apparently only Eurosport will broadcast the Italian races this year. Sad news for cycling fans.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

From Sporza to a downpour of commercial breaks and two commentators constantly moaning about every Dutchman coming close to the camera... FML

Italian cycling really is struggling at the moment. It's a shame for a country with so much cycling history.

Well, apparently the English commentators are even worse, so yeah..
But really sad to make this a WT race, then take away a big part of the enjoyment. And it's not just Strade Bianchi, even the monuments Milan - San Remo and Il Lombardia will be restricted to Eurosport as it stands now.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

It's the complexity of live broadcasting a moving event like a cycling race. Bikes, helicopters, transmission equipment... it's not cheap. Especially compared to a stadium/arena based event. If i'm running a TV station i'm gonna prioritise the cheaper to broadcast event because i've got to keep my channel going. It's not good, it's just an annoying fact of cycling. Especially with the numbers that pirate these broadcasts which contributes nothing to the viewing figures and makes them less valuable.
And be thankful it's on air at all. The number of good events that don't get any live coverage is growing. Like the Womens Strade getting no live coverage at all.

I'm sure a few channels would broadcast it live if they could buy the man's race as well. But just the woman's race? Not going to happen. It's this kind of stuff that prevents woman's cycling from expanding.
I also think Sporza, NOS and a few others are willing to pay a fair price for the races. But they can't go all out like Eurosport. You can't compete with a network that has great commercial incomes.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The English commentators aren't that bad. Any cycling commentator is going to get annoying after a while as they are basically commentating on nothing for 4 hours a lot of the time

Just thinking about it, is this the closest we come to a race where we realistically can say that you need to be at least in the mix in order to be the best rider in the peloton? |

Carlton Kirby really is that bad and after about 4 seconds rather than 4 hours! The rest are generally okay though these days. Quite like Brian Smith or Rob Hatch in particular. Always found it confounding that Eurosport preferred Kirby to Hatch for so long and maybe still even now?

Never listened to a race commentated by José Been? (eg Vuelta, Pais Vasco). If you did, you would've known because she'd mention him every minute or so. It's like Wuyts and Boonen.

I think I only watched Eneco Tour on English Eurosport once because I was on holiday. No idea what the dutchies are doing. For me it's kinda Sporza or nothing.
And to be fair, Boonen probably deserves the occasional mention with his palmares. Vervaeke, well, I like him
I think I'll just watch a stream instead of "supporting" Eurosport.
