So Gaviria+Boonen dominate the shit small race, i wonder where all the "Gaviria for MSR, Worlds and 20GT stage wins in one year" posts are. I am disappointed Shonak and Riis.
At least we have that "Tommeke for Roubaix" broken record playing.

BOONEN FOR ROUBAIX
It would be awesome and deserved, but I don't see it happening unfotunately. It would be nice if he won Omloop though, that's the only cobbled race (of note) he hasn't won yet. Or San Remo, but it would be stupid if they rode for anyone but Gaviria.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Last year was his big chance to win a final Roubaix and he lost the sprint to a 37 year old Aussie, who can't sprint, with a broken arm.
Would be great if he could pull it off, but there are too many younger guns in contention.
The fact that Gaviria is riding for Boonen here possibly indicates Boonen will be returning the favour later in the season. Maybe this is the year QS put their eggs in Gaviria's basket in the Spring.

I know! They're beating such illustrious names as Matteo Malucelli and Ricardo Escuela. It's, frankly, incredible how well they are doing at the moment that surely MSR, PR, TDF, Worlds are all just formalities for them at this point.
I mean, look at Nibali! He's only finished 5th so far, goddamn loser. Guys gonna decline this year, Nibbles will be lucky to even finish a GT.

Gaviria already having more stage wins than last year's rider of the year, 2agan, and we are only in January.

CN has also posted an interview with him https://www.cyclin...-i-am-now/
In the end, as trite as it might sound, it was the love of a good woman that saved him. When he raced the Vuelta a Colombia for the first time in 2008 he instantly fell in love with one of the podium girls – "I was trying to be professional about the race but I was going crazy" – and vowed to win a stage so he could receive a couple of kisses. That he did, and he stayed on after the race to get to know her – to 'conquer' her, as he jokes – and he has never looked back.
"Colombia has been very good to me," he says. "I met my wife here and we have two daughters together – it's the best thing that happened in my life. It's as if destiny brought me here."

Quickstep are just taking turns, I bet they give Richeze a chance before the race is finished.

It'll be a bit awkward on the team bus if he doesn't win his stage

Nah, I think they sorta owe one to him even if he doesn't win, considering the incredible leadout work he's done in these 2 years. Plus we are in Argentina!

Plus, Tommeke and Gaviria care about San Luis as much as Avin does, so there's that.

I say Boonen is one of the favourites in Roubaix. The only rider who could (can?) ride Boonen of the wheel is Cancellara and he isn't there. GVA and Sagan are the best cobbled riders, but none of them are particular good at Roubaix. And don't tell me Sep Vanmarcke is better than Boonen at 100% which he haven't been for a long time in the classics for various reasons. Degenkolb, Kristoff?
This year he has trained very well compared to last year. Boonen winning P-R wouldn't surprise me one bit at this point, especially as its his last shot and he seems extremely motivated. None is even close compared to him in terms of experience. De Ronde is obviously a whole other ballgame and he stands no chance.
Also #GAVIRIAMSR2017 and #GAVIRIABERGEN2017. |

A heap more factors go into winning Roubaix than just being 100% and great on the cobbles, I don't think just because it's his last season and he'll be specially motivated plays that much of a factor and can be a negative, to much pressure to perform can make things difficult. He looks the good right now and it would be a sight to see him winning Roubaix in his final season but I think some people are getting a little bit over excited at this early stage.

No, because there aren't no standout favourite at all, no specialist who can just demolish the race. Its very even. Sagan has never been close to winning Roubaix and Boonen contested the race on 90% last year. Mark my words. |

Boonen was extremely lucky last year, when majority of biggest competitors was either injured (GVA) or held by the crash (Sagan, Cancellara).
Fact that he was not able to beat Hayman says it all...
He can win only with big luck and very good circumstances. He is not even best Quickstep rider for Roubaix at this point. He is just overrated because of the past

Take quickstep team..and you will get another 8 favorites for Roubaix. Sagan can do anything, Stannard is beast, Thomas...list will be quite long..even Boom..who ever ..tactical race.
I still wondering why he did not collect it 2016. Probably to much work what he did. It was amazing to watch how he was all over the bike and keep pushing. |

I was going to say this could be Stannard's year in Roubaix. I think Thomas is more interested in stage races these days to be a real contender.
