Today I was lucky to stand at the right spot at Willunga Hill to watch Richie Porte's decisive attack!
Spoiler
EDIT: Fixed video link, I think. I'm on my phone where no Youtube videos ever load properly so I can't really tell if it works or not. :S Thanks Ollfardh anyway.
Does anyone have any pictures of the route of the San Juan race?

Procyclingstats.
5 for the sprinters, what looks like a pretty shallow MTF and a time trial. Quickstep should be able to dominate with Gaviria, Boonen and Richeze.

Marko Kump seems to really have his nose into real WT racing now, amazing!
It's TDU. Calm your titties. He'll fail as usual when it's real racing
Im more intrigued by Ewan and if that will mean he will be winning meaningful stages in Europe. Should I calm my tithes or well he be mediocre?
With sprinting being such a confidence game his results at this years TDU should give him confidence when he heads to Europe, he should have better results than last season and I'd think a Giro stage win would be a step in the right direction. He's still going to get schooled in flat sprints when the big boys come out to play.

Way too predictable racing in Down Under, the organisation made a poor job this time around.
Yeah they really did stuff up this years route, the Adelaide hills have a big variety of climbs that just aren't getting used plus a think the race could really use a short TT. Other editions of this race haven't been this dull.

They did include one extra "hillier" stage thus year, it just didn't really add too much to the race.
They need to change the route. It's basically a race up wallunga hill. Even if they put that stage nearer the start, stage 2 maybe, it would force teams to break the race up in the flatter stages. It's basically a 5 day sprinters procession to wallunga and then the winner is first to the top.
It also doesn't help that being so early in the season only the Aussie riders are in top form and take it really seriously.

No, they didn't include one hillier stage. This year there were 2, last year there were 4. They scrapped Corkscrew Road into Campbeltown and made the Victor Harbor a pure sprint, while they removed the always interesting finish to Sterling. What we got in return was essentially the 1,5 km climb to Paracombe on the Stirling circuit and 2 pure sprint stages.
So, from being a very open and balanced route/race with possibilities for breaks/puncheurs etc. it essentially ended up being a super predictable and boring race with 4 pure sprints and 2 HTFs with a minimal of action before the sprint/hill top. Very counterproductive to interesting racing if you ask me.
By hillier I should have said hill top finishes, of which there were two this year. Only one last year. The profile was slightly hillier last year but nothing a decent sprinter couldn't stay in the bunch for. Walunga is the only real hill that generates major gaps. Have that hill earlier in the race and then riders would have to race to make up time.
More often then not the TDU is about not loosing time in the first 4 stages and then race up walunga.

Yeah, but the Corkcrew-climb into Campbelltown is a very hard climb, similar to Paracombe on stage 2 this year in the absolute final, obviously just downhill which makes for a better race with only one hard HTF.
Anyways, I guess we have made out point: please use the geography better than this year.
