so which GT looks better? I have to schedule my three weeks summer vacation in january and I'm not sure between Giro/Vuelta (fuck that yearly borefest). I'm looking more towards the Giro since that also has Indy 500 in the same period

I would say the Giro and it's also the 100th edition

100th Giro should have a more packed startlist than La Vuelta and you've also got California Through the Tour Tracker at the same time as the Giro. The Vuelta has Hamburg, Plouay and the Canadian Classics on at the same time but I think the racing would be better and covered better in California than those and the Giro's startlist should make a more interesting race as it should be packed enough to have good racing for lower GC positions as well as for the win/podium.

I don't know if other sports play much of an influence but just incase,

Other Major Sporting Events during Giro:

Indy 500
Monaco GP (F1)
Kentucky Derby
Players Championship (Golf, unofficially the 5th Major)
Spanish GP (F1)
Europa League Final
Start of the Isle Of Man TT week
Opening day of the French Open (Tennis)

Other Major Sporting Events during Vuelta:

Last 2 days of Solheim Cup (Golf)
Belgian GP (F1)
US Open (Tennis) (finishes day after)
Italian GP (F1)
Mountain Bike World Championships
Opening NFL Weekend
Ironman 70.3 World Championship (Triathlon)

And not only because it's the 100th edition, the scenery of the Giro is breathtaking, La Vuelta while a good race doesn't offer up the same beauty of the Giro...... Yes the Giro is my favourite GT by a long way Smile

Definitely Giro. You come off a high from the classics and get right into watching Gts. At Vuelta, I am usually fed up with cycling and suffer overcomposure from TdF. So Giro all the way.

I would say TdF, even if I am the only one.
Seriously, I love TdF Smile .

Every GT has its charm, but I'd also go for Giro at this point - altho strictly route-wise, I say Vuelta.

You're the only one because Luigi was undecided whether to follow Il Giro or La Vuelta Pfft

Not a great start to Owain Doull's Team Sky career.

"En la primera parte del calendario estaré en la Vuelta Valencia, Abu Dabi y Tirreno-Adriático", aseguró Quintana.

El ciclista del Movistar Team agregó que "la decisión final que tomamos es hacer Giro y Tour de Francia", sobre las tres grandes del ciclismo mundial.

No Vuelta defence, Giro-Tour double and by the looks of it, no Catalunya or/and Pais Vasco which makes sense when he targets Giro + Tour. This schedule will see Valverde have the opportunity to pick and choose between P-N, Catalunya and Pais Vasco and lead Vuelta which is great for him personally.

What a disgrace, no Androni? Seriously? Its like RCS don't wanna there to be Italian teams, forget about they are much more qualified than CCC. Holy smokes some geniuses up there in that organisation that tries to kill Italian cycling.

Two doping strikes in 2015, forcing riders to pay-to-race. Not to mention that they had Pelizotti - the biggest doper of them all. Androni could blame themselves

Tristana also was involved, yet still invited.

I just don't get why you dont support your continental teams when the foreigners aren't better - in this instance, CCC are clearly a worse team. Bernal, Gavazzi, Torres etc. CCC offers nothing besides Hirt

Well Bahrain are still going to the Giro and they have Peli Pfft

Oh, sorry, did I touched a nerve?

It's their fault - not RCS's that Androni got shafted. Same goes for Nippo and their "leader" Cunego who is irrelevant sice 2007. I'm glad that national protectionism has ended in the Giro - it's time to end in the Tour as well (I want to see Caja Rural instead of Fortuneo or Delko)

So sad to not see Nippo or Androni in instead of CCC.
CCC are in it to get the hype in Poland before the race heads there next year potentially.

So according to this theory Bora was at the Tour just beacause to get the "hype" in Germany before the Düsseldorf in 2017? RCS decides who to inivite and Savio and Pelosi can complain and moan all they can, but it's not RCS's fault that Androni had two doping strikes and Nippo being barely relevant and signing a has-been (Santaromita) and failed hype (Arredondo) (oh,and some of their riders jumped ship to the Bahraini prince's pet project)

Not really. We just very much disagree.

Cunego was relevant up until 2013, not that it matters for the point tho. Its also important to remember Nippo often spent their whole team chasing down breaks in 2016 for Cunego to get the mountain jersey which obviously was a huge plus.

I don't support national protectionism to the point of ASO either per se, but much rather that than what RCS are doing at the moment. 2 Italian teams for the 100th Giro. 2! Its wrong.

On your last point: Yes, I'd also very much like to see Caja Rural instead of Delko, mainly because they're just that much better. But thats not the case in this instance, quite the contrary, unfortunately.

Anyways, I'll leave it here. Ewan's point is also good, I missed that one.

Don't over look Ponzi and Rebbelin on CCC, Italians that do still pop in results from time to time. And CCC has various overlapping sponsors with RCS (vittoria, selle italia, festina, elite) which will also help. Plus CCC is part of the MPCC which again helps. If you add the parts together there is good reasoning, add top it off with RCS "globalisation" thing they tout around from time to time.
Doesn't make CCC a "better" option but it's a decision that can be understood.

Then there's Androni, who can't even get their own riders to support their attempts to get a wildcard.

Now the slightly surprising one is the overlook of Nippo. Not really on any sporting grounds, but given the plethora of rumors that the 2018, or soon after, Giro could start in Japan you might have thought they'd try and garner a bit of interest now with their Japanese riders.
