PCT Rankings Update #4
roturn
Another month gone on the PCT calendar. Two big HC stage races with Norway and Andorra clearly had the biggest impact on the rankings while the Nelspruit Classic also has a HC rating.

In general though it was a month for climbers and time trialists while the cobblers at least got a bit with the Grozny Classic. Sprinters had bad chances and could only had gone to the C2 events, which wasn`t done a lot though.

Let`s start with Norway. Fiedler found back his TT strength and scored the biggest individual there helping his team to top the race rankings. This is obviously moving them up a lot to the mid table area and away from the "surprising" relegation zone.
Also promotion contender Wiesenhof and Hugo Boss with a very decent race while TT machines from Generali did okay as ewll still having the promotion spots in their range. Spotify as last team to mention as they performed 2nd best here actually.

Andorra just has ended. So stop reading here if you haven`t checked the results yet.

UBS takes the big points home with PCT dominator Amador. That said the gap to the next teams such as Coldeportes was expected to be a lot bigger I guess. Hence ~60 points differential only due to Chamorro`s crazy ride sees the South Americans still ahead in the rankings and on direct promotion course.
Also Wiesenhof scored okay here when realizing Monsalve should have done better but isn`t doing any better.
Porto Prio must have hoped for more but at least got enough points to still be in the fight for promotion as Machado disappointed quite a bit here despite a stage.
Shimano and in especially Aeropostal with a huge step forward here in the fight against relegation!

Nelspruit a single race for the puncheurs this month. Hugo Boss and Arrinera scored best here. First remain on the promotion spot whis way while Arrinera is trapped in the mid table apparently. In-n-Out with a "Help Me" Shout here showing signs of life but still struggle at the very bottom with an almost impossible gap ahead.

Monterrey TTT saw finally the Generali TT riders on top. They had a very consistent scoring month and moved up nicely into the top10! Promotion candidate? Maybe.

Grozny saw the inevitable. Summerhill with yet another win. And this is needed as they still are in huge relegation danger. In especially as Lierse outscored them as direct opponent and also Shimano did o0kay there. So 3 teams with top4 scoring in Russia being direct opponents.
Only big promotion candidate and the first mention of the month for Strava also did well here as usually on cobbles.

So in total this is the Post June ranking look:

Strava still topping it but the gap became tiny with 10 points only to Wiesenhof, who should have passed them normally if Monsalve had performed according to his stats.

Also Hugo Boss is closing while Coldeportes and UBS both made huge steps forward into the top5!

Telkom, Porto are sitting next hoping for a good 2nd half of the season clearly while Ayubowan and VisitUkraine lost a lot this month. Though either didn`t race at all or far less. So nothing huge lost here neither.

Generali and Novatek slowly moving up forward and might hope for a last minute promotion turnaround.

At the bottom In-n-Out as said looks desperate already. Compal needs Dekker to keep on performing. Andorra had been his race but he wasn`t starting. So one big HC event missed surely isn`t helping them.

Then 3-4 teams fighting for the survival in a row. All did well recently and the question is, which teams will continue to do so as also stronger expected teams such as Eritel or Vontobel aren`t a lot ahead.

Even PT relegator Meiji in huge danger there being closer to relegation than promotion. What a joke really seeing their team. Clearly underperforming a lot recently.

The projected rankings sees Strava remaining in the lead but behind a close fight for 2nd between Wiesenhof and Telkom. Porto also close above the 3000 point mark while UBS as last direct promotion team.

At the bottom In-n-Out could climb a bit but not enough. Just like Lierse they didn`t race a lot so far.

Shimano and Aeropostal could lose the fight against other 50:50 teams such as Euskaltel, Vonzobel or in especially Azteca. But it`s rather close from 18th-25th.

Even a bit higher Meiji is close to relegation than promotion and will need more of Kinoshita and less of Itami.

Lost a spot and things are looking less good compared to the last ranking. We really only had one good race. Looking at the projected rankings, we'll need about 2000 points to stay in, and that would mean we need to double the points we have with very limited cobbled races to go.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

We actually are about 200 points better in this projected ranking than in the previous month

Only race this month so not surprised that we lost a good chunk of the lead. Actually still happy we lead it for the probably last month. The GC teams are closing in. Strong month by Wiesenhof.
Thanks roturn

Funny Pfft

It is definitely looking like we might achieve that top 15 goal, but it's gonna take a miracle for us to get a promotion! For now all I want is for the lads not to fail Isle of Man's goal, where like an idiot I set top 5. Probably the hardest goal of the season besides the top 15 in the standings.

May was incredible for us, but so was June! We're in the provisional top 10 thanks to some great performances in Norway and Monterrey and we aim to continue on this note in July too, with Isle of Man, Battenkill, home race Trentino and Beijing on our calendar. All should score us good points with no exceptions if only our riders perform like they're supposed to!

Incredible how Telkom keep scoring like it's nothing, too. I definitely underestimated them at the start of the season, probably the team prediction I got the most wrong. On the other hand Wiesenhof are looking pretty comfortable for the title really. It will be interesting to see how long Strava resists in the top 5, would be pretty unexpected and pretty awesome if they managed to actually promote.

Thanks for the great update roturn!

Cool, nice to take the projected rankings although that one cobbled race wasn't that lucrative as hoped. Why not end the season now? blaster-foren.de/styles/default/xenforo/smilies.blaster/nixweiss.gif

So up one spot in rankings and down three spots in projected rankings, so mixed feelings about this update. Could be worse but also easily be better.

Grabbing an automatic promotion spot in the end will be tough though.

Thanks for the update and write-up roturn.

Definitely a big haul for us since the last update, but Amador is now finished and for the rest of the season I'll be relying on my 2nd tier guys who usually finish somewhere between 10th - 15th in every race. I expect we'll slide down a lot. We definitely won't be getting one of the direct promotion spots, and we'll be lucky to promote at all.

valverde321
I still have hope we can finish in the Top 10 this season, although I probably shouldn't Pfft Literally everyone but Kinoshita has underperformed, and I probably shouldn't have sold Zaini and Appo but as long as I dont relegate it will be fine, although it is getting a little bit closer to that than I was expecting, which isn't nice.

The points suggest relegation, but doing enough to survive with PPRD. Think ToA late in the season will probably decide my fate though, and I don't have any reason to think I will score well at all there.

thanks for another update roturn Wink

Andorra was kind of a two edge sword. 2 stage victories from our GC guy in a 5-day race, but a 6th overall, being a podium contender is at least bittersweet.

Anyway we're still in contention and pretty much as roturn put it we're hoping for a good 2nd half of the season. Fingers crossed.

Good month pointswise, and we seem to have a really good chanse at promotion, which is the hope for the season Grin

Safer than I thought we were! So there is that for us!

Kent - Here is a spoiler with the points teams got from the ToA last season:

Spoiler

Eritel - Sonatrach311
Mobil - Aeropostal Ciclismo224
Swedbank-PEAB221
Prio - Porto154
Team Vontobel135
Lululemon/Bulgaria Blackfish128
Bonsucro124
Children of Chernobyl Foundation p/b Nemiroff123
Azteca - NBCSN98
Sauber Petronas96
cycleYorkshire s/b ASDA-Savers94
ONCE-Eroski87
Project: Africa86
Euskaltel-Air France80

.. so unless you are planning to win the thing you will really struggle to get 10 pprd - relegation numbers! I mean Miguel took five wins and barely gets 10 pprd.

Yet we keep going to it!

To be honest I am happy Flores will be off to the ToA, gives us plenty of chances to add to our 1 meagre win from this season - which was a break win ...

Thanks Roturn. Wink

Nice seeing PpRD for us is slowly going up.

But we are still doing worse then we hoped for.

Andorra went better than I ever could imagine and Norway went around what we expected.

Thanks for the update and too all you reporters!

Posting in the right thread now:

Hopefully we can have a good finish as our schedule is mostly backloaded, but right now it isn't looking too well for us

But hey we aren't last on Pprd so thats a good sign
