Finally Purito Rodriguez retires and will only be a member of the staff of Barhain-Merida

Shrike24
I kinda had that feeling all along that Purito wasn't going to race in 2017

So the whole Purito to Bahrain was nothing but a huge charade?

Anyone seen this?

A new Dutch three day race, in AGR/Poels/Dumoulin-homeground. Weirdest thing? The have one sprint stage, one hilly stage and one "team event that [the organiser] says will be a team pursuit with all teams competing on the [circuit] at the same time."

This last thing is probably breaking UCI rules, but they're getting a UCI 2.HC classification nevertheless.

Oh, and clicking on to the original Dutch article, the organiser of this race is organising events with the same set up in Switserland in August and in South-Africa in October.

I certainly like having a new HC race so close to my home, and I think South Africa is a good choice too, Africa really is a continent with a future in cycling.

I don't know what to think of the "revolutionary" team event.

I agree, Africa has a great future ahead in cycling.

I love an idea like that! Would love to see an event like an individual pursuit in stage races too. Could work potentially in GTs too. Needs some testing, but if it works great in Tour de Ski, then why not in cycling...

Oh yeah an individual pursuit in cycling would be fun. Imagine that on like Angliru.

As a stage 20, wow... It would be like a pursuit in biathlon. If you like biathlon, one of the main reasons is probably because of pursuit. Same as Nordic combine. They tried all formats of races. But pursuit clearly works the best. The final stage in Tour de Ski is a great thing to watch too. Made modern pentathlon at Olympics much better as well. In cycling, there would likely be some problems with potential mechanicals or medical help. But could be incredibely exciting. Even team pursuit is a good idea that could be used in road cycling. Stage races as a team-event only could work.

Because of slipstream, it'd be super unfair.

Maybe on a mountain though the lower effect of slipstream and the fact anybody you caught would be going slower than you could reduce that a bit and make it doable, even though it'd still have an impact.

Saying that, I have no clue how pursuits work so maybe I'm just confused. Pfft

I agree, Biathlon pursuits and the final of Tour de Ski are amazing.

Etienne Fabre, AG2R junior rider, has died at the age of 20. Reason for the death - fall on frozen snow while hiking in the Bauges Mountains, in France’s east near Albertville.

Sounds like his family is going through a terrible time, as his father crashed his bike and became quadriplegic only a couple weeks ago. RIP.

Pretty much everyone has said which GT they will target at this point. UPDATE, GIRO 2017: Pinot, Kruiswijk, Dumoulin, Mollema, Landa, Thomas, Aru, Nibali, Amador, Poels, Majka, Jungels and Yates/Chaves.

Edit: I expect big things from Formolo also. And I expect to see one of Talansky, Rolland and Urán there as well. Have I forgot anyone?
Edit2: Forgot TJ and Zakarin as well. Might as well add Pozzo, but he should be over at this point..

What names!
