Hopeless for Morton, though he at least did not suffer big time.
Gesink though.. ready for the big move?

Thank you for the report, roturn. Truly enjoy them, and this one was no exception.
That red jersey must give Gesink wings! Congratulations again, alexkr00! Also a massive ride from Guldhammer, gapping Pluchkin and many more great climbers, and just like that he's up to 5th in GC, despite being almost 8 minutes behind Gesink. Looks very difficult to keep, but hopefully he can fight for a place closer to the top 5 instead of 9th or 10th.
If Gesink's dominance somehow continues, ths race will be rather sensational for eBuddy, as also Brambilla seems to be looking for a decent GC placing. |

Exciting stage! Gesink is flying.
I was furious when I saw we missed that 9 man break again. Luckily Formolo did attack mid stage. Still not scoring any points though.

Again Pluchkin really underperforming (more than Gesink overperforming really).
That gap is beginning to look pretty comfortable now!
In other news though, really happy Carapaz attacked mid-stage. Hope its more where it comes from!

Gesink Quite easy for him so far.
Quintana loses a ton of time on any hilly stage, but at least proved he's among the best in the 'real' mountain stages. Slight hope of top-10... |

RedBull gives you wings.
Let's say the time trial kind of made sense, the hills definitely made sense, but what is this? The only explanation I can find is that he found out I considered selling him in the transfer window.
A great performance by the entire team today, not only Gesink.
The only thing that looks to be stopping Gesink, and I hate to say this, is a crash.

The way the GC is structured and brought to life is quite unlike what we saw in the Giro. Massive performance by Gesink, but you have to remember it is 3 weeks of racing and we just finished the first one. It is kinda good to have new blood again winning the GT of course.
eBuddy could easily be a contender for the Top 5 if this is the Vuelta where Gesink takes the win. Already he has done more than Pluchkin did in the Giro outside the GC

Hopefully Gesink won't blow out in the third week like Ricco did in the last mountain stage in Giro last year.
Even if Gesink does win the Vuelta, I doubt we will be top 5 contenders. We were second last before Giro. Top 10 is fine.

This has Gesink crashing out from the race in stage 21 written all over it, isn't it... Crushing it so far, congrats alex!
On the other way Pluchkin finally underachieving a little bit after last few amazing GTs for him. Still expect him to make it a race here though.
From my point of view the last 3 stages were quite solid for my team. Sagan tried his best in a flat stage and 8th is a nice surprise, then he took a nice 3rd in a hilly stage, while Velits did quite ok. And then both Peters did quite ok in the first real mountain test. Nice to see Velits in top 10 and Sagan in top 20, would be decent result in Madrid too.
Oh and thanks roturn for some fantastic reporting. Both great pace and quality!

Too bad Lecuisinier couldn't stay with Quintana, but back in the U25 Jersey is nice, also overtaking those puncheurs for a while (I guess some will jump past again).
Piter Campero likes these real mountains, and Vasyliv didn't lose too much. Both are now in the U25 top 10. I hope they can end up around 5-8th in the end, also giving us a decent team GC, as a preview for the Tour.
Now to cross fingers for Koretzky and Coquard.

Well I have to happy that Jose came back from the dead there.
He has to get a bit of bad luck somewhere and it is nice that he at least has a chance of recovering lost ground in at least he can leapfrog over some of the dross in the lower top ten.

Amazing Gesink! That must be it, surely game, set and match considering the overall win. After all there's only four mountain top finishes left, and as it stands now Pluchkin needs 1'30-2 minutes on each of them, in addition to putting serious time into him on the mountain time trial. I can't see it happen. And that's assuming Gesink won't take any more time on the hilly stuff.
Very happy with Guldhammer again. That's a great stage result, and gaining around a minute to most GC riders, it seems like he's on route to even fight for a top 5.
And congratulations on the stage win, Mre, but it's kind of drowning in Gesink's sensational performances, just being in a class of his own of the GC riders on every stage that gives a selection. |

Is this really happening? So close to get a third stage win in only 8 stages and that gap in the GC is huge. At this point, the green jersey seems very well within reach.
Thanks for the quality reports and the amazing pace!

Hello people!
Welcome to the Gesink's slaughterhouse, where every dream about the domination can be fullfiled. On the right we have slained man, who once called himself "the Great", on the left you can find the evil minions who try to look like your eBuddies.
In the centre, on pedestal of mighty 68 acceleration stands the man himself, the future winner of La Vuelta 16.

Wow Gesink... If anyone had any doubts left that's it, hoping not to jinx it One of the best ever performances in a GT I've ever seen so far. I'm glad I didn't doom alex because of that relegation prediction of mine, I just expected Gesink not to perform any better than last year, but it's awesome he's doing so well, he's one of the best MG riders on paper for sure.
TVG really good in this one, guess it's a tie for now between him and Skujins. Great reporting roturn, congrats Mre!
