UCI World Championships 2016 - Doha

1) Yes slipstream
2) But also very dangerous
and 3) luckily not fully worth the 18 seconds he won with.

Organisation can be very happy that didn't distort the result or made him crash.
Probably wouldn't have been the first case of an ambulance creating work for themselves.

Croatia14
and Mathis had absolutely no chance to not take the slipstream...that's organizators to blame...

what a result for Germany though Shock just as it looked as if the USA could scratch on the TT throne of them they come back in style Shock

And that as well, it's not like he chose the part of the road with a vehicle in front as there were no parts of it without.

Well to be fair, Costa wasn't even here, and Powless came rather close while also being a great climbing talent (maybe even the U23 revelation of the year in ATOC) just like Costa.
I'd take two Froomes over two Tonys, so to speak. But I'd also take two Tonys over nothing, so celebration time! Pfft

Also fun fact, Mathis only got to ride this because Kämna won the European Championship and allowed Germany to bring 3 riders here. So in a way he got a medal too.

Nice spot there Grin

well I guess both Costa and Powless will try to go into GT riding, while the likes of Schachmann and Mathis will stay TT/flat classics guys...Kämna an undecided guy though, he can go strong on the climbs as well...interesting that he just finds back some form after a quiet injury year (and final exams as far as I know)

According to the commentary Eurosport there have been numerous fainting's due to the heat. I saw one Aussie chap almost pass out during his ride.
It's just a ridiculous place to hold any outdoor sporting event, not even mentioning the shady humanitarian issues. The World Cup will be an absolute farce in 2022.

Coach for the Danish team Anders Lund said that the heat wasn't a problem for Mads Würtz Schmidt, he just had a very bad day. Not sure the heat is that big of a problem.
Present:
Tinkoff-Saxo - AG2R - Colombian riders

Past:
Francisco Mancebo - Illes balears - Carlos Sastre - Kelme - Robbie McEwen

Well the current temperature in Qatar is 39 degrees.
Average temperature in the South of France in July is low 30s. I would say the temperature will definitely make a difference and have a very large impact.

All you had to do was watch the womens TTT to see the unusal damage teams were doing to themselves. Of course best exampled by Rabobank who not only dropped riders early, but Koster most definately crashed because of a high level of exhaustion caused in part by the heat.
Dygert vomiting. Kroger sick. 4 Cervelo riders sick, the other two with doctors. Almost every other team needing at least one rider needing assitance from the medical staff.

Anyone who lives in a location like that could tell you what was going to happen. There's a reason why cyclists in similar climates tend to not ride in the middle of the day, opting for early morning or evening rides.
So what does the UCI do? Schedules the events for Midday/Early Afternoon. Why? For better European TV coverage.

And the problem will only become hugely exacerbated with the Road Races when riders should be in the sun and heat and humidity, at speed, for hours. Here comes the shortest ever WC course...

What i found strange is fact that extreme weather protocol can stop the riders from riding in 10degrees, while nobody cares much about 40 degrees with no humidity? I am not a doctor, but i guess that second option is more dangerous for body already pushed to the limit...
I'll be back

The UCI has a 4-man panel in Doha who are monitoring the weather and are ready to implement an extreme-weather protocol if they deem it too hot. This would mean shortening of the races. So there is extreme weather protocol Pfft

Yeah, i have noticed that Dr. 1,2,3,4 names, but probably the qatari pay better than italians to have their races done in full. Lets see if somthing will be done for the road race, then again it is stupid to have the WC there at the first place...

This is what happens when sporting bodies prioritise a quick buck over the good of the sport. Unfortunately it's happening more often. Outdoor sporting events shouldn't take place where your can't grow grass Smile

I don't quite get your post.
Are you saying we should have races on the beach or in a lake?
