With this year's World Champs being in Doha, and it being a Sprinter's paradise, it got me thinking... When was there a World Champion who didn't ride for a WT / PT team when wearing the Rainbow Stripes? Has it ever happened before?
The reason for this thought is the fact that the likes of Cavendish or Bouhanni have a great chance of taking Gold next month and as things stand, both will be on a PCT team next season. We have seen Wiggins ride in Rainbows when he moved to Team Wiggins during 2015, so the ITT jersey got an airing then, but what about on the road?

Yeah, but Evans wears the rainbows from Worlds '09 to Worlds '10, meaning that he wears the rainbows for BMC in 2010. No other WCs else is of that type, I've been checking today.
Cadel Evans was the last rider to ride a "full" season in Rainbow for PCT, but Hushovd was the last rider to race in Rainbow for a PCT team, as he raced twice after the Worlds in 2010 for Cervelo.
