Vuelta á Espana 2016

Another word on Contador: Very happy he will leave Tinkoff for good this season now that the team folds. Since 2013 there's alway been something off with the squad, something toxic in the air and it's good he gets a change of environement now. Ultimately, he can only strengthen his resolve and motivation for the upcoming season. Vamos!

No, no deal. Felline deserves the points jersey the most and what's another one of those for Valv anyway?

Knowing Valv, he will most likely sprint tomorrow. He stole the jersey from Purito in 2014 as well in Madrid. Pfft

Lol, beat Felline in a sprint. Yeah right. How about a last day bet? Your avatar needs some mollema.

I honestly think he suffers as much as the others, his style is just a bit different to most. Same goes for Mollema (sorry to compare him to Mollema, but...), riding your bike with your whole body doesn't mean you necessarily can tolerate more pain, go over your threshold etc.

Great win, but I think had Atapuma not been tactically inept, he most likely would've won.

I don't say he wins, I say he attempts it, re your question in your post that I answered. Wink Felline has this barring a 2005 Illes Baleares sprint from Piti.

He's 22 so he definitely suffers way more than others, that's the basic premise of the age in cycling. But yeah his style is like Mochema. Difference is, he sitll makes it fun to look at and cheer for him.

I don't quite understand this. Does a 22 y/o automatically suffer more than a 27 y/o? Enlighten me.

Yes, of course. When you compare a 22 year old version to the same person of 27 year old, the 27 is stronger because of accumulative training. The basic principle is that you get stronger each year until age kicks in and you get weaker. Uhm, obviosuly Chris Horner, Purito are examples that can be used against that, but exception of the rule, plus injuries, bad luck etc always play a role too. Meanwhile Valv never gave much care about age at all.

Atapuma is close to the best cycling age, Latour is still a young chicken in the pro ranks and learning the ropes. Disregaring future or past potential, he has lower limits, less experience, less kilometers and traing in total in his legs than an older rider, thus he has to suffer more.

So Hugh Carthy wasn't in a break all three weeks, right? The hype isn't real. Sad

I thought you were referring to just that, I just wasn't sure, but Im not sure I quite agree I must admit. Pfft

Example: Did Quintana suffer more than, say, Contador or Purito in during TdF 2013 at age 23? I mean, you are as good as you are, disregarding how old are you - I think the question is how far you are able and willing to go in order to produce your absolute optimal. Some are better than others which I initially thought was your point and it definitely looks like Latour can that due to his way of riding, looking like he is completely roasted, going to drop every seconds, almost dying - yet continues. My point just was I don't necessarily think we should get fooled to assume riders with that style - Mollema, Latour, Chris Sorensen etc. - necessarily suffer more. Which wasn't your point, obviously, after clarifying, so I am just rambling a bit by now.

Nope, major disappointment. Seemed to peak way to soon and has apparently just been completely empty at the start. However, a GT like this should strengthen him without being an expert!

Yes, I agree. Some guys have ugly styles that make them look suffer more. Latour, Mollema, me myself and I. But Latour is not Quintana. This is not the Tour podium he has been gunning for, this is a (great) Vuelta BOTD stage win. Geniez got one of those, Atapuma got one of those, and now Latour got one of those.

I think he can still grow a lot but he is not an early bloomer such as Quintana or Contador who won le Tour age 24. To compare him to those is not fair imo, and we do not know how great he can turn out to be, nor do we know what Atapuma will achieve in the future. Right now all I can say that he is climbing wise below Atapuma who has way more experience, has had a stage win and he is known for racing mountains from the break. By beating him and Frank, I argue, Latour must have been pushed himself way over the red zone. Post-race he looked knattered but AG2R guys always have a way of looking flat out empty after stage wins

Actually he doesn't, the stage you're probably thinking of he got the red jersey but finished 2nd as well.

Would have loved Atapuma to take this, as he was already very close to a stage win in the Giro on multiple occasions but Latour was just stronger so kudos to him. Wink

Yes, Mamykin only one of the guys from 94' ready for the fight. Shame MAL crashed out but Carthy, Odd Eiking and Kudus showed little.

Mamykin has bright future I'm sure. Also has some balls between his legs Cool

But very important all of those finished la Vuelta.

Finishing a GT is what turns a young cyclist into a man.

Naesen prime example of that this season

Also Shonak 10 posts in one page is a bit too much no, I know your boy won today but still Pfft

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Nah they have the great Zaka aswell.

Shame Katusha won't be Russian anymore. Future looks bright for the sputniks with Zakarin and Mamykin plus Kuznetsov and even Silin showing some signs.

End of their contracts probably played a role in that aswel CoolCool
