What?....
There is basically zero drafting on a climb such as this - you'd surely know that unless your are straight up trolling. Chaves attempted to gap Contador and Froome since he would need that time in order to finishing on the podium. Weird post - don't let your hate cloud your judgement.
They did the climb at around 20 minutes(probably a bit less for the quickest), which means at around 16kph. Drafting still is a thing at these speeds.
So you stick to your argument that Chaves was helping Quintana out, a rider who so far has been the best uphill and has a 3.37 minutes advantage?
Well, they are both columbian and every second could count. What if Quintana gets a mechanical or Froome puts in a monster ITT?

Havn't seen the stage but drafting at 16kph matters veery little imo.

16kph on average was the speed for the climb. Quintana used the slipstream when they were going full...maybe 20-25kph

I get your point.
But my point is that if any other rider in the same position had said the same thing he wouldn't be called a liar and a cheat.
No, Avin said that everybody else would be branded a cheat and liar too in the same situation. There's no double standards here at all. No Froome anti-bias detected imo.
It's pointless discussing as it's a difference of opinion. I'm just pointing out the fact that Froome/Sky didn't make the decision not to kick out the riders but for some reason it's their fault and they are liars and cheats because of the decision made by the organisers.
No, it's not their fault nor are they cheats for this decision. The riders made a collective decision to tell the Vuelta to fuck off and cruise casually home. Thus, everybody is pissed at the race organization, not at Team Sky. Team SKY as an entity that does not play a role in this discussion, same as Direct Energie. They are just the suckers who didn't do anything all day. That's why it's up the to the race organization to make the decision agains their favor. It'd be the same if it was Etixx, Tinkoff or Movistar.. or any other team really. Sky isn't the factor here.
I get that people don't like Froome, he's not a very charismatic rider/individual. But dislike him for stuff he actually does, not stuff that is actually nothing to do with him.
Ehm, people argued against him because of something he said, so it's actually something that he did. He voluntary pulled the discussion on himself by stating that he could race without teammates and it wouldn't bother him

TVG is out of Vuelta and has abandoned. Funny, two days ago I read an interview that he was excited to go stage hunting (never got in a break) and was appreciating his work as a domestique to carry bottles for Samu. He described it something along the lines of a learning experience that will make him a better rider?
And now he goes zack-boom and abandons again a race. If there is one guy in the bunch who is overpaid it surely is TVG, amiright?
He's never won a stage race outside America so for him to think he's got any chance at a Grand Tour is pretty laughable.
He's probably a victim of the weakness of American cycling at the moment. He's the best they have so gets talked up and automatically gets a place as a leader of the one big American team. It's like the England football team. They are crap but the pressure is on them to win.
If he was European he would be an average mountain domestique.
Because an average mountain domestique would be able to ride top 5 in the Tour, win up the Rettenbachferner, come second in the Dauphiné and hold a Tour podium spot only to drop out due to illness?
A top 5 grand tour finish doesn't really mean anything. It's relative to the competition in any given year. Jean Cristophe Peraud finished 2nd but who's he in the grand scheme of things?
That's a fair point, 2012 TdF was indeed relatively weak. However, his Tour podium standing last year was ahead of Valverde, Nibali and Contador among others. Didn't need a break or even a long TT, he was really climbing that good. I think that should justify a role better than domestique (maybe at Sky or so it would be final domestique) and I think he would definitely be a leader in the mountains in at least 12+ WT teams.
Ringo is exactly right. TVG himself has said in the very same interview that being a GC rider is relativey easy. He said something like, "as a GC rider you just need to go full speed at a given moment", whilst everything else is taken care of. If it is so easy, than why does he fail so much, doesn't this explain all you need to know about Tejay?
His Tdf 2012 means shit little, it's a fifth place at a weak TdF 4 years ago against the VdB who came 4th. Jürgen VdB, the man of the only country more desperate for a GC rider than the US. It doesn't hide the fact that TVG didn't score on european terrain. The guy is the antitode to the word consistency. He is the antidote to ambition, but quite a promise when it comes to talking big in interviews and doing jack shit in the race. Hunt stages? As if.
Frankly, by being the sole american GC rider worth watching (remember, the guy is training with Lance Armstrong, lots of publicity!), he was born into this GC role but actually never had to earn it. It was given to him, now we have to wait for Adrien Costa to get some major US cycling hype going again. There are strong american teams and there's TVG, waiting to always cash in. Talk about a monopoly. He is the sole prospect of a country that had Lance Armstrong and Greg LeMond, a country that is used to the superlative. He is the heir to a TdF throne that was never meant to be his. And with the attitute and the racing he has shown lately, I wonder why he even bother. Go training with Lance and Georpge Hincapie, better times.

Watching the stage on cyclingtorrents. Flecha riding up the mountain sounds awfully like a guy mastrubating.

Talansky got dropped at the beginning of the climb and finishes better than most of the rest. now up to 6th overall. The dude is nonchalantly better at pacing himself than even Froomebot, and he doesn't even need his stem to do it!

Yeah very, very good GT by Talansky, finally on a proper level again after the past year, whatever that has been all about.

That just wasn't what happened, Chaves is trying to overtake Froome on the GC so why wouldn't he hop on the front of that group and try and crack Froome? He did get the gap but Froome came back. Sure Quintana could of benefited from it but it wasn't the reason Chaves was putting the effort in, you should be applauding the fact the Chaves is attacking this race and trying to move up in the GC than just sitting on wheels trying to keep his 3rd place position.

Of course he does, but he's not glued to it 99% of his ride. I know because when the race is happening up front I'm usually watching him.

Ya, great Vuelta from Talansky, not showing himself that much, just quietly climbing the ranks.

I'm just going to highlight this momentous occasion as possibly the first time myself and Shonak have agreed on something
All it took was the continued mediocrity of Tejay Van Garderen |

Of course Im serious. Clueless or trolling, I dno. Accusing Chaves of 'helping' Quintana when a) the last couple of kilometres where like 13-14% in average b) Chaves is riding for a podium spot and c) Quintana has proved to be the best AND is leading with almost 4 minutes is simply absurd. Please, do watch it again. |

Brailsford: "Chris once again showed his mental strength in letting them go a little bit, coming back to them, letting them go, knowing full well he'd be able to close it in the end."
"He's probably unique in that sense in cycling in the way he rides, everybody thinks he's in trouble and the way he comes back on them - the mental tenacity, the strength, the discipline to be able to do that - is incredible."
What? He thinks that we are idiots?
Fucking mental strenght..this is power meter climbing. |
