Its underwhelming that nobody cares about stage wins anymore. I don't like the idea that you get carte blanche in the break, its sorta devaluing stage wins. Its a sad trend that nobody really seems to care. If only there would actually be a battle between the break and the peloton, but there simply isn't.
Its largely a product of bad circumstances tho, but it was the same thing in France this July. It just doesn't feel right to me that the break is allowed to fight for the stage win every damn time... thats not how it was supposed to be. |

I've also noticed that recent tendency, but I got no idea on why is it happening. Any theories, guys? |

Team tactics are worse than ever. Most teams just rather want to keep riders around their leaders even though they are off no use than burn them to try and achieve something.
There is this tendency that a team did a good job when they keep riders around their leaders. They are told to stay around their leaders as long as they can untill they get dropped. But they aren't usefull if they do nothing.

Hermans is 4'21 down on GC. Don't think they will have lots of minutes in the bottom of Lagos. And with less of 4 minutes, they won't have any chance to win |

Gesink will surely find a way to not win the stage. Then again, his toughest competition is Vaughters' avengers squad of 10%

I'd be surprised if Gesink were to win this. Gesink in good shape wouldn't be so far down in the GC (though he has been getting better). I think Hermans or Mate would win if the break were to last.

I fancy Dumbo from this group. Hermans is stealth GC threat though which should allow the anti breakaway stage win crew some chance to cream themselves over GC riders.
Ticks Foxtrot will likely want to keep De La Crud in red so will bust their balls to reel break in.
Plenty of empty testes today either way.

Don't believe in a breakaway win today, for the first time I think the favorites want to and will share this between them

Still less of 4 minutes for the breakaway (3'40). With the current gap the stage is for GC guys |

Only question that I ask myself here is: What the heck is a Luis Enrique?!
That break ain't half bad. Too bad no french or swiss rider is in it.
Nope, Rolland doesn't count as french no more since he left Europca for Vaughters.
Riis, you're a huge fan of Merckx aren't you?
I say that team radios "gotta gotta gotta go" to make it more insteresting again.
Or legalize marihu...er EPO. |

He's Barcelona manager, and former player for both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Here in Madrid he's obviously not really appreciated |

Movistar pulling. They've reduced the gap from 5 to 3'45 minutes in a few km |

Going "all in" for ANOTHER RIDER doesn't seem like the brightest of ideas anymore...

He was yesterday in Bilbao, now he's in Asturias. Guy doesn't waste no time
BTW, he is actually from Asturias, right? So that's like going back home for him. |
