It looks like the Bahrain setup will be buying Lampre's WT licsence which means they take over the 13 contracted Lampre riders for next season in Meintjes, Modolo, Mohoric, Bono, Consonni, Durasek, Ferrari, Ganna, Kump, Niemiec, Petilli, Ravasi, Zurlo. I wonder if they would want all 13, I can see them taking Meintjes, Modolo, Mohoric, Bono, Ferrari and maybe a couple of the young Italians
Niemiec has had some good GT results and experience, so they'll probably want to keep him around and Durasek seems to be doing enough to suggest he'll be valuable too. Having said that, Lampre haven't had much success in the past few years so Bahrain might decide they need to change things up anyway.

I doubt that the Bahrain Torture Team will want all 13 of the contracted Lampre riders for next season so I'd expect that the Lampre PCT squad to hold onto some of them, also we have a heap of riders still looking for homes next season with a few teams folding so it shouldn't be to difficult for them to put together a competitive team.

The International riders of Lampre won't be happy to be demoted to PCT status. In that case it's more likely Rui Costa to return to Movistar and Grmay to Dimension Data

Can't see any evidence of it now, but for some reason I thought Androni weren't going to continue next year. That would have provided Lampre with a good selection of PCT riders to pick from, but it's very doubtful that they won't be up to that level anyway since there will always be people desperately looking for a contract.
Just a thought - with no Colombian team at PCT any more, could they potentially do some kind of deal like Androni or Southeast did to get in some of the best young South American riders?

Well neither Rui Costa or Tsgabu Grmay have contracts with Lampre for next season so they don't really come into this conversation, the only international riders who have contracts for 2017 are Meintjes, Mohoric, Niemiec, Kump and Durasek but as I said earlier in the thread all the Lampre contracts will be transfered to the new Bahrain team if they are in fact buying Lampre's WT license. Of those 5 international riders I can see Meintjes, Mohoric and Durasek being retained with Niemiec being a slim chance of being kept and Kump would struggle to be kept by Bahrain so he might end up staying with Lampre PCT.

Bora were not interested in him - they were only interested in the SAGAN name and likeness and nothing else. That's why Majka won't be here and it's more likely König to stay in Sky (thanks to the bigger paycheck).
Etixx perhaps are looking into different direction with much younger roster in which perhaps Tony Martin has no place.
Sunweb - Giant was more appropriate place for him, but they have TT rider in Dumolin
It could've been worse - Bahrain

So Bora is only gonna have Sagan that's capable of big results in and have a PT team? Im not sure how smart of a play that is tbh
With the way Tony has been racing recently, is it understanble that the hype for him have been going down somewhat and that he were gonna have less takers.
Also with Purito retiring, it was obvious that Katusha needet some new big names in
I like this move personally, as he could play a important role in Kristoffs train (always been kinda meh, his train that is). He could also form somewhat of a joker role in the spring-classics and be the new 'Paolini' for Katusha there.

My guess is that it's one of the following:
1. Tony's probably realised now that he only has a few years left and wants to take a bigger pay-cheque home while he still has value as a free agent.
or
2. His role at Katusha may be more individually focussed than at Etixx (where he was mainly the first man in the lead-out train for Cavendish/Kittel in recent years) and he's seeking more freedom that way.
Personally, I'm leaning towards the first option.

Surprise, surprise. If there would be a possibility to bet on you not liking this move, the coefficient would probably be around 1.01. |

In the press statement Martin states, that there will be interesting changes in the background of the team and that the team will be more international. Hint for Alpecin being the new co-sponsor?
