I don't wanna tolerate no Andy jokes. Most gifted rider I have ever seen, what a talent. Could pedal 40 km/ph in his sleep and turn it up whenever he wanted to.

So apparently now Purito has ridden his final race. SO not only no Vuelta now, but also Lombardia.
Not really sure I understand this move whatsoever. I guess he's just really sick of bike racing and wanted to end ASAP.

For some reason I've always enjoyed watching him, just a shame he never managed to pull of that really big win in his career.
He was so close on so many occasions in the GTs and also the one-day-races, but never emerged as the winner. In 2012 he was the strongest rider in both the Giro and the Vuelta and could have even pulled off the double, but he didn't win either of them. In 2013 he looked like the sure winner of LBL and the World Championships a few hundred meters before the finish but again he couldn't bring it home.
Apparently it just wasn't meant to be for him but he can still look back on a great career.

He said he wanted us to remember the good Purito and thats why he won't race anymore.
HOWEVER, he is at a real high level right now. He could easily win a couple of stages in La Vuelta and finish high in the GC if he wanted to, I think. Its a shame, especially since Valverde won't ride La Vuelta either.. it won't feel real. |

I would like to think that whats every DS in the peloton thinks, totally unacceptable. 3 WT events 1 week after the Tour? Obviously, RideLondon needed that. It was a decent race, but will be nothing more than a predictable sprinters classic now that it has turned WT. I can't understand, like Madiot, why Paris-Tours didn't get the call. |

I think you both understand, as it is because of growing influnce of Great Britain in cycling. Not good, but no shock.

I have an easy solution for Madiot - why not apply for Pro-Continental license like Lampre. No one forces him to be in WT and his team would get invitations to ASO WT events anyway (thanks national bias).

Well if we are going happily welcome a team run by a torturer then why shouldn't oil rich, oppressive dictatorial regime's get WT races? Seems logical enough to me

Looks out of it that UCI letting dopers running teams is tamed in compairson. UCI folks - allow anyone no matter how corrupt or doped is

All the LA Antarte riders are now looking for new homes with the teams sponsor pulling out of cycling.

what people are saying on reddit is that it isnt the sponsor, it's the team management leaving because of the doping of other teams and suspended dopers coming back to lead dirty teams as managers
they threatened to leave last december for this reason if nothing changed

It was probably poorly phrased but I rather meant that he was very close to victory in loads of races which he didn't end up winning.

RideLondon isn't necessarily the most outrageous race to include, but there should never be more than 2 WT races at the same time. Best case scenario, it will turn out to be a glorified Vattenfall Cyclassics with b and c sprinters duking it out.
I think Qatar is somewhat okay (compared to what other races are included). That race at least have some history and a pretty decent race. The other oil races are obviously a joke, no history at all either, but RideLondon doesn't have one either and isn't exactly Strade Bianche in which case the history is rendered indifferent due to it being such a good race.
I think RideLondon is part of the problem, so is Turkey, so are the oil races. |
