In some way I think it was Fuglsangs luck that he was joined by exactly GVA. They worked nicely together as GVA knew he didn't have to get tactical to beat Fuglsang in a sprint and Fuglsang will be very happy for a silver medal and knew that he had no shot at gold with GVA around and no shot at silver if they were caught as he can't beat anyone in a sprint.

p.s. GVA followed Fuglsang attack.
Fuglsang was super strong today. When he was at front gap with Majka came down faster. |

Did Alaphilippe crash or had a technical issue on the descent as well by the way?
He had to chase back into the group in the first shot on the flat, and I doubt he just got dropped. I think he might have made the jump to the two chasers without that spent energy.
