However inviting teams on national grounds has been dumb idea - what about other teams that want to be part of?

RCS always invite one foreign team to the Giro (Gazprom, CCC, Colombia, NetApp). This why Androni didn't get an invite this year and other Italian teams missed out in previous years.

But next year there'll be one less WT team so that means an extra invite.

Unless Bernaudeau tries to bring his team back to WT status. There will be 18 WorldTour teams and UCI will forego an selection process for the 18th spot

It has been touted that ONE Pro Cycling will go to WT by 2017, but the sudden jump to WT after only 2 years I can't see how will this happen.

Willier Triestina are investing more in the Southeast outfit and one can wonder if they will apply for WT to gain more exposure.

IMO ONE, Direct Energie and Willier Southeast are the candidates for the 18th WT slot should Lampre relinquish their WT rights

Didn't the UCI said that they will have 17 WT teams from next year on?
And even if this will be just one year later the case, why will a PCT team apply for an UCI License if there is a possible chance to be thrown out after one year already?

17 WT teams are called - and it's the 15 current teams continuing + Bahrain (taking the licence of Lampre) & Bora...

to the Giro discussion: with Lampre it looks like there will be 5 Italian PCT teams - so maybe again 1 of them is missing out

What bothers me the most in this Armistead ordeal is the fact that the institution taking the decision is the CAS. I was hoping that at least those guys could be counted on.

They have been counted on. So their decision is only valid if they decide to do what you think should be done? They have all of the evidence, not some of it like you, and have decided that Armistead had a valid reason for missing one of the missed tests. Stop trying to make conspiracies out of a legally made decision.

Is there any source regarding the number of WT? Bora and Bahrain are not assured WT slots - these new signings doesn't guarantee WT license from get go. So basicly means that Sagan and/or Nibali may not be in WT next year.

To defend my argument why Bora and Bahrain can't be sure for WT license here's an case - Alonso's project was denied license despite securing the services of some WT riders with enough UCI points

Ther will be 4 Italian teams as reportedly Androni is set to fold (though not confirmed) after the doping scandals and the wildcard denial. Southeast should've been denied any WT invitations because of their well documented doping cases over the past 5-6 years.

Also I've spoken about the dumb IMO idea of ASO/RCS inviting only French/Italians teams (if Dusseldorf wasnt the 2017 Grand Départ, Delko Marseille was taking the 4th wildcard in TdF). There should be new invitation distribution - 50% local, 50% international teams. If the WT teams are 17 then te best placed PCT team in the GT should receive automatic invitation. I think this is simple and fair - no more national bias towards invitations

Yeah, dont even dare to touch the british cycling heroes, they just train harder, so they dont have time to think about some stupid testing...

That Armitstead story just looks like bullshit. Why on earth didn't she protest the first warning when it was given? Baffles me... Lucky to escape this one. And why do they keep this a secret? A problem in many other sports as well, but cycling might just be the worst. Everyone benefits from these cases being openly explained.

What has nationality got to do with it?
The same rules apply to all cyclists. Armistead appealed and her appeal was upheld.
The fact of whether or not she is on drugs is irrelevant. Probably the majority of professional cyclists (male or female) either are currently using, or have used in the past, performance enhancing drugs.

The question here was her missing a test and her appeal for the reason for missing that test was upheld. How have CAS failed in this instance?

she missed 3 tests in 1 year .

But at one of the tests she was where she said she would be. The tester didn't make enough of an effort to find her at the hotel she was staying at. That's why the appeal was upheld.

Also, for Armistead's third missed test, which she didn't appeal, she had made last minute changes to her programme due to a family illness, so your Hamilton quote is just plain wrong. Changing your location at the last minute is no excuse.

took this from a post on cycling news
Nicole Sapstead of UKAD said
“Ms Armitstead chose not to challenge the first and second whereabouts failures at the time they were asserted against her. At the CAS hearing, Ms Armitstead raised a defence in relation to the first whereabouts failure, which was accepted by the panel. We are awaiting the reasoned decision from the CAS panel as to why the first whereabouts failure was not upheld.”

The official didn't want to tell hotel staff that he was a tester so that's why they didn't let him in. When they called Lizzie, she had her phone on silent. On 7am. What a professional athlete she is, makes always sure she gets her full rest before an event. lol I myself meanwhile question what the tester was else to do when entry is forbidden and the athlete does not react..

(Anybody has to understand why the tester does not tell hotel staff that he is a tester since this would obviously give Lizzie a chance to manipulate the test..)

Right here is everything I know

1: UKAD are the ones trying to ban her (UK anti Doping) so this whole it's because she's British only applies if your saying that CAS has a UK baisis

2: As far as I'm aware so went for the stupid ohh I'll never miss 3 so who cares about the first two warnings at the time

3: It's now not possible in UKAD at least to change your location from a 48 hour deadline hence the violation for a sick family member and not changing her location when she knew beforehand

4: The reason the first one was overruled as far as I'm aware is something to do with changing a room at a race or something along them lines and CAS has decide that UKAD should of been aware that the hotel was changedso it has been removed as a Administartive error (ahh scratch this seems as though it's the testers couldn't get into a hotel)

All I know so far will let you know if I hear any more

It really is the most stupid thing ever to put your phone on silent when you have already two strikes, weeks ahead of the biggest sport event. I mean really, imagine the statistic possibilities of such bad luck that it just happens on that day, it's one of Taleb's black swans really.. so it's either really, really stupid, odd bad luck or you know, something else.

As I said in the part of my comment you neglected to highlight, she didn't appeal that missed test because she knew she had no reasonable excuse to miss it. Therefore your funny picture is a little redundant Smile

As said, the decision was overturned by people who know more about it then you or me. The reason for overturning was obviously valid and legal otherwise CAS would be opening themselves up for law suits from various parties. I don't reaslly see what the big issue is. The appeal was upheld, end of story.

Ask the hotel staff to go and get her?

It's not end of story because Armistead is favourite for Rio gold and so this will be a continuing story for sure. Add to that the olympic doping talk which makes it sound like doping is hitting mainstream (my fb blows up with people who are surprised that doping exists..)

True I misread information, it was first test, not the third. Still odd how you can miss on tests weeks ahead of Rio.
