We didn't go into the transfer season with a real plan. Like, none at all. And it might just pay off. Keeping an open mind can have its advantages.
Nothing is certain yet, let us be clear about that. But it looks like we're closing in on a nice deal for Marquez, a great climber, to come here to lead the team in the mountains!
Mauricio Soler is another name currently under negotiations.
More information to follow soon. But just maybe we can make this PCT adventure a very positive one!
Obviously, we're keeping our Argentine identity and we're looking to increase our squad size with some more Argentine talent. We'll keep you posted! |

We have finished our squad for the upcoming season. It'll be our first season in the PCT, so we brought in a new leader. Marquez is from Spain and will score many points as a climbing goat.
Other than that, we have some new faces on the team. They are:
Lucas Manuel Gaday, a very promising young rider from Argentina. He'll be our first northern classics specialist.
Mauro Richeze is Maximiliano's brother. He, too, is a fast man and he'll prove a valuable asset for the team in the sprinting department.
Daniel Juarez is a puncher and a sprinter. He can't sprint with the best and he can't climb with the best, but he has special abilities so let's hope he can find races to go his own!
Mauricio Soler is a Colombian climber. He can support Marquez in the mountains and go his own chance in other races.
Mauricio Guillermo Frazer is a special kind of rider. He's a fast finisher but loves to attack. A strong rider to have in any squad!
Julian Gaday, a sprinter. He is Lucas' brother and we negotiated with both riders at the same time.
Catriel Andres Soto is an Argentine climber, a new domestique.
Lionel Biondo is a true fighter. We're counting on him to get into some breakaways this season!
Juan José Heado is Lucas' brother. He, too, is a fast man!

21 out of our 29 riders are now from Argentine. So we're getting closer to our goals. Let's hope for a great season so we can stay in the PCT league for our third season!
Lastly, we go into this new season with 3 pair of brothers in our squad. This represents our family values. SanCor is a big family. Quite literally.
Richeze brothers.
Gaday brothers.
Haedo brothers.
Let's see who else has any siblings in our ranks! |

This will be a great team to follow, though it will be very hard to stay in PCT. Gaday is an amazing guy for your teams future!

I love how much you stick to the Argentinian focus, though I expect you're heading into a tough season.

Thank you both.
Ever since I started my ManGame adventure, I made the decision to stick to a large portion of role-playing.
Thus upon moving up to the PCT, I willingly kept many of our team on the pay roll and, yes, I ended up with a weaker squad than I could have. But it's the only team I want.
Marquez and Richeze are our biggest hopes to keep our heads above water in PCT. But we'll need extraordinary performances and good planning.
We're going 100% for it! |

I love this approach. While I frankly think you have very few chances to stay in PCT, I really hope you manage it, it would be so awesome!
Best of luck!

The team is facing some tough challenges. This season will be one big challenge and we're ready to face it together, as a team.
However, we're off to a bad start. In the Down Under Classic, Michiel Van Aelbroeck was the best team finisher in 60th position. Needless to say, this will not suffice to survive in the ProContinental League.
So what happened? We asked main sprinter, Max Richeze:
It was a very nervous race, a flat 75 km race is always dangerous and the pace will always be very high. There were some crashes early on and I saw Moscon going down, it looked nasty. Luckily, though, I managed to stay upright. After that, the race was very chaotic. The team still did its best to bring me in a good position for the sprint, but we never got to the front.
And so we look hopefully towards the Tour Down Under. Only one race behind us so the season has barely started. Our riders are showing an eagerness to race on training, but it's time to put it into practise and show our colours on the road.
Let's go, SanCor! |

Marqueing the Ultimate Prize!
The Vuelta al Tachira is an important race to SanCor. Obviously, this South American race should be one of our highlights of the season. Spending his first race days for our team, Florentino Marquez is off to a great start. With two flat stages behind us, he hasn't lost any time in the GC yet and hasn't finished outside the top 30.
Marquez is marking the ultimate prize: a podium at the end of the Vuelta al Tachira. Perhaps even that highest step!
We asked Directeur Sportive Rafael Lopez, who is at the Vuelta al Tachira:
Everything is going according to plan. Marquez is positioning himself perfectly and that just shows his incredible focus. He's 100% focused for this first goal of the season. I think we'll see some fireworks when we'll hit the mountains. And Marquez will be at the front. He's in great shape and we have a lot of faith in him.
We built the team around him for this race. So he's got plenty of support in the mountains, too. With Moyano, Juarez and others, he'll be surrounded for a good while. Let's hope we can take a podium spot in the end. A stage win would be the icing on the cake, but one step at the time.
After a very disappointing Tour Down Under, the team needs results. If only to inspire the squad to make this a great season. |

I have a very high opinion on Marquez and think a podium is surely possible. Beating Machado, Martin or Sella is not easy but it's doable and I have the feeling he will finish ahead of Machado or Martin.

Sella? You must mean Ricco.
I hope Marquez has a good race in Tachira - although I don't see any reason why he won't! I just hope it's not too good for my sake.

Riding the Tour de San Luis is always special to us. Our home race. In the opening prologue, we never had a shot and we never expected anything. No, we came here with a mixture of a sprinting squad and riders suited to the break, Rodas not in the least.
In stage 2, the first road race, Richeze proved immediately that he is worth his higher wage. His experience and sprint speed guided him to a bold move on the right and to surprise friend and foe to take the victory. What a day for us here at SanCor Headquarters!
Result 1 | Maximiliano Richeze | SanCor | 3h43'30 | 2 | Tomohiro Hayakawa | Meiji - JR East | s.t. | 3 | Troels Vinther | Valio - DeLaval | s.t. | 4 | Kristian Sobota | Netia - Norske Skog | s.t. | 5 | Jaime Alberto Castañeda | Flores - Ceitec | s.t. | 6 | Sam Bennett | Banc na hÉireann | s.t. | 7 | Jonathan McEvoy | Karcher-Adira | s.t. | 8 | Danilo Kupfernagel | Karcher-Adira | s.t. | 9 | Kobe Vanoverschelde | Banc na hÉireann | s.t. | 10 | Yauheni Hutarovich | VisitUkraine p/b Nemiroff | s.t. |
Asking our Directeur Sportif about this victory and the rest of this race, his answer was short but sweet:
We're very proud of him and the team today. Our Tour de San Luis is already a success but this is only the start. More sprint opportunities will follow and Richeze is one of the most experienced riders here. When the mountains come, we have other pawns to move forward. We're very ambitious for the remainder of this race. |

Incompetent Manager Fired - Team Disbanding
The very incompetent manager of SanCor Cycling Team has been fired - only after he had been AWOL for months. During this time, the team was completely without a strong leading hand and finished at the bottom of the PCT Ranking. The once so ambitious cycling project from Argentina is now disbanding after seeing all sponsors withdraw their names from the team. The manager - Ian Butler - is rumored to start a new internet company selling pre-fab dog houses.
His last words before leaving the country were: "a big thanks to all our fans who've been there for us. Also, where can I buy some playboy magazines around this place?"
Surely a sad loss for the cycling community. |
