The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are just around the corner! 207 nations will participate in over 300 events and the opening ceremony will take place in the Maracanã Stadium on 5 August.

Many of us are looking forward to the cycling events. I guess most of us are primarily interested in the road events, but I'm also looking forward to the men's mountain bike event where the current road world champion Peter Sagan will participate for Slovakia. I also look forward to the athletics. Will Mo Farah and Usain Bolt be able to defend their Olympic golds from London? What events are you looking forward to the most? Smile

I'm traveling to Manaus on Wednesday where I will watch Sweden's first football game against Colombia on 4 August. I'll then continue to Rio where I will stay for ten days. I have some tickets to handball games, and I'll try to watch some road cycling as well as I'm there. Smile

meanwhile in mountain bike land, people are unhappy about Sagan doing it and the dutch coach thinks Rudi van Houts will finish ahead of Sagan.

we must remember though that their are both dutch and therefore overrate their riders "little". Sagan's point gap was barely anything in comparisment Pfft

edit: also fml, last week of my vacation falls in the swimming half Sad

Sadly I've lost most interest in Olympics through years. Like of course there are few events like basketball tournament and road cycling that I'm still gonna watch, but overall it just feels meh... especially after EC in football, which seems like a bigger event.

Kind of in the same boat as you Mayo, will most likely just follow the cycling intensely and then just watch whatever is on when you turn on the TV.

I think it's obvious that the most successful Olympians will be the mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus and the people mugging fans from the lack of police.

I think this will be one of the most "failed" Olympics" of all time. Some athletes are missing (be it Russia scandal or ZIKA, or water superbacteria fear) and some sites are said not to be fully ready for the events.

I care only about basketball, cycling and golf (but without some sbiggest stars).

I totally agree, I think these Olympics will be remembered for being too chaotic... just a shame but as you say, I only care about certain sports like cycling, basketball, swimming and maybe athletics, but hey, I think I'll watch some more on TV Smile

The Olympic movement should be ashamed of themselves, I don't understand why it has to cost so much money and reaps no benefit to the host city or it's people. I'll be honest and say I have absolutely no interest in the Games and that even includes the cycling events.

I guess i'm the hipster here. Super excited for the Olympics and i'm gonna be watching loads of it. Road, Track, MTB, BMX cycling of course. Handball for sure. Various swimming, athletics events. A good bit of sailing, rowing, kayak and canoeing. And what ever else i catch in between work.

I love the Olympics a huge amount. Rio won't be perfect but i have faith it will surprise a lot of people. I can just about remember pre-Athens people were making a lot of similar worries about venues and costs, and that was a pretty solid games. So come on Rio, you delivered a great WC now give use a great Olympics.

What is so hipster about watching the biggest marketing money show in four years? Pfft

Current state of Games has nothing to do with Olympics idea...

Fuck de Rio. End of story.

It's going to be disaster! Pfft

I look forward to the Olympics quite a bit as well. Mainly because it's a rare chance to watch the smaller sports that usually doesn't get a lot of attention in media.

Go arching, sailing etc.
Anyone got a tip to something I should try catching to broaden my horizon?

Still I´ll watch Olympia for Basketball, Handball, Volleyball and Cycling reasons. Maybe even Football, though it´s an U23 tournament in worse.

But all in all the Olympic Winter Games are much more appealing to me than the summer games right now.

What's with Rowing and Canoe (especially canoe slalom). There quite interesting, exciting and among the few which I look forward.

My main highlight will be Rugby honestly, after last WC I started to watch the sport a bit more and think that it'll be great, especially if it's right what all people say that 5man Rugby (which will be he Olympic version) is more entertaining than classic rugby.
I also look forward to all other ball games, except football maybe which becomes more and more a joke.
In general I'm not that hyped as 4 years ago or as for the Sochi Winter Olympics, not because of the other factors but mostly because egoistic factors:
-The most events are at night
-I'm (or better: my family is) moving around that time and I will have even less time to watch it.
So what I'll watch depends also on when I've time.

I've never been interested in Olympics (winter or summer). Never appealed to me, really.

I just hope Vladdy Putin can win a few Golden Medals and then we'll see! Cool

What I love about Olympics is seeing both a lot of sports I do not normally see and sports I also normally see.

What I look most forward to is legend Usain Bolt show!

Thought you were supporting Froome in running events... He is promising, given his superiority in Tour he wanted to train a bit his running skills for Olympics

I'll watch as much of it as I can handle. I really do love seeing all the different sports, and all of 2012 was brilliant- we even got tickets to the hockey and water polo at the Olympic Park, and saw about five football games, including Honduras 1-0 Spain. Watched a lot of rugby sevens during the Commonwealth Games- looking forward to that, as well as the golf.
I agree with Miguel- it's nigh on certain to be a total disaster.
But where's the fun in not watching it?
Disclaimer- Most of my posts are me thinking aloud. And most of what I think is rubbish.
