Vuelta á Espana 2016
dev4ever
Fair to say that Conta is over his peak, he will never reach 2008-2011 form again, when he was basically unbeatable. But contador at this level is still very much competent to fight for a vuelta atleast. He has proven that time after time since his suspendion

I do wonder what Lopez could do though, can very well be the adam yates of the vuelta. Not to put any pressure on the kid, but he could be our lord and savior from the skybots in a few years time, as I really dont see anyone else other than Quintana who has the potential atm to crush froome

CHAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys expecting to much..he is young fellow. Don't kill him with high hopes. For him ..1 GT at season would be enough.

He has ridden Giro + Vuelta in 2014 and 2015 as well tho. He is gradually getting better and better and IS indeed one of the favourites, so obviously, people are gonna expect things. Especially after his last two showings in GTs which both were formidable.

He is smiley Chaves..and that is also he's luck. he has been enjoying what he's doing. Even when Nibali snatched pink at final mountain stage he was lucky to end Giro 2nd. (and really was meaning it).
Let's hope expectation wont spoil that kid.

La Vuelta is gonna be interesting, Really looking forward to seeing how Contador does in this now after his miserable Tour de France Smile

Riders coming from Giro and who are rested also have a good chance, like Chaves, Uran, Kruijswijk.

Also I expect most riders who did TdF like Froome, Quintana, Aru, Purito to be there again going for GC.

No idea if Porte, TJV, or French riders like Pinot or Bardet will go, because from what I have seen they dont prefer Vuelta.

Others like Nibali, Dumoulin, Valverde, Zakarin have done 2 GC so I dont expect them to be there, atleast not going for GC.

If Contador is fit to race then he should have upper hand on others. But remember most of better climbers from Tinkoff were in TdF so he will not have strong team. Top of my head I can think of J. Hernández, Kiserlovski, Paulinho, Trofimov, Hansen, and RC as Bennati.
Sky will still have better team

That's not 100% accurate, there's always some pointless minor climbs and a slight downhill for no good reason before the finish Pfft

I would like to see you climb Cordal, amigo. Thats not an easy climb and kinda ruins your point

La Vuelta has a few of those stages mentioned. Who cares. It will inevitable be better than the Tour anyways.

2012 Vuelta was what made me strengthen my love for cycling after the bore-fest that was 2012 Tour.
I was a pretty new cycling fan at that point that started to watch cycling with 2011 Tour which had an epic final week.
Hopefully it will be the same this year.Though the stages are horrible,as usual, except two.

Contador having to attack was what made 2012 interesting. But if Froome rides the Vuelta and has a very good form then we have another bore-fest.

Considering the state of my knees, I'd be happy just to be able to ride a bike let alone a climb like that Pfft

The point with it is, is that even when the Vuelta doesn't go for just a simple uphill finish it still suffers from poor route design. El Cordal is a reasonably difficult climb, but with the Angliru coming up it doesn't add anything to the stage - as riders will save themselves for the finishing climb.

Thatguyeveryonehates
the cordal isnt reasonably difficult
its brutal. theres no other word for it

but with the angliru after theres no point in the cordal being in that stage

He is human you know. Even Skybots can not keep peak form that long. And he will need good ones. Who can be "Poels"?

Does anyone think Sky may need to let someone else lead at the Vuelta? Given all of the big names they have surely they need to let someone else lead sometimes at the Grand Tours. It's like a football team having the 6 best strikers in the World. Sooner of later the strikers who don't get to play much are going to start getting a bit pissed off and go to join rival teams.

I know that this year it may be a bit late with training schedules, but Sky have got probably 5 or 6 riders who could win the Giro or the Vuelta with the Sky train supporting them (Froome, Poels, Landa, Henao, Thomas).

Will Landa be riding? He hasn't done too much since his disaster at the Giro. He'll be a very stong lieutenant if so.
