Race geography was a factor in sending De la Cruz here but I feel he can do something, I see going to a strong CT1 race as a gamble, we have nothing to lose here. And who knows where De la Cruz will be going next this season, one of the reasons I didn't publish my selections, I want to see what surprises you with my selections

Ochoa Quintero may have won before but he is scarcely even considered an outsider this year. As our top guy we hope for the best from him, but as with almost all stage races this year we will be out stage hunting and if we come across some success in the GC or other competitions, great!
Will be fun to see how the top guys of this PCT do as this is a very strong startlist.

Bruthal lineup here, definetely happy we are not going and end up repeating the fiasco from last year!
The podium looks almost decidet already. Cant see anyone matching up with the trio Ricco, Macha and Martin.
The biggest suprise in the lineup is Delacruz for me. With a solid TT-stat you would think he would spend his 'PCT-visit' elsewhere really. But easy to be wise in hindsight and certainly couldnt expect such a field here.
Hope to see some proper racing here!
Yeah you were right I never expected a field this strong but it's impossible to predict, its just a bit of luck really.

Given that Tachira always used to be a little bit of a joke race with second tier climbers, the startlist that is present here is crazy to see. Clearly people aren't put off by the 10 stage length!

Cool! Hope to see a nice battle but I really need Marquez to pull a top 5 here. Our new leader has little time to adapt and get us results, we're counting on him! |

Machado surely the favourite, but I think Ricco will surprise and take the win. If Machado is riding here, I imagine he's also going to be in Portugal too? That would be two thirds (or so) of his total race days in two races.
No real expectations at all from us, would be nice if Brenes could sneak into the top 10 or even nab himself a stage win.

I like long stage races alright? Leave me alone
It's a gamble obviously. I was banking on the fact that the profile is tailor-made for Machado and that the field would be less crazier than in other races. I was expecting to have a couple of high-end competitors, but Ricco and Martin are definitely not the competitors I'd like to face here. Telkom especially looks menacing.

Ahah, just checked my excel file. Looking at it I get the feeling that Machado's race planning was done by my dog
Thanks for the great preview roturn and good luck to everyone!

Will be an interesting race to watch, Machado should be the favorite here, but if he got a bad race it pretty much ruins his season, too much points lost for his race days.
Also great to see a lot of riders Monsalve will have to battle less against later
Hoping for an exciting race to watch as a neutral here. The Martin/Machado/Ricco battle should be good

I'm back! And just in time for Tachira! (Explained my absence here.)
Brought Ricco here because I thought his high hill stat would make him a superior favourite over the likes of Rujano, Kiserlovski, etc. Didn't expect to see Machado here! Still I expect a win from Ricco - he's got some very solid support. I hope the fact that he's been given the number 1 dossard counts for something. 10 race days won't be wasted if he wins 2+ stages and the GC!

Very dominating sprint from the Vontobel team, great report Roturn. I must say I love the Sprinttrain overview

Pretty happy with a strong 3rd place there, as it could have been more if not for Petit having to go early due to the break being caught late on.
Gallopin already showing he's a worthwhile investment as well with an incredible leadout |

Yes top class reporting continues - roturn is legend of course.
Very encouraged to see my cheered for sprinter former Red Bull luddite Haider Anuawar going nicely. Appollonio looked a different class there, big release of pressure off of him going into the next two Kiera Knightly tribute stages.
I must say I am enjoying the whole crashes frequency, this should ensure some lost weight and extra grey hairs in many a MG manager this season Perhaps we will all end up looking like Baldy Brailsford? Or madman Tinkov?

Vobtobel caught the lucky boat sending Apoollonio here who is the best sprinter among many fatty sprinters, and I'm expecting him to do a Granjel at America here.
And he confirms it indeed, would have been surprised not to see him winning here with that superiority.

Finally racing again.
Last season Sella won this race for me and it was one of the only races I could be happy with. I can't expect Kiserlovski to repeat this result, but I think a top5 is not too much expectation. Haidar Anuawar 4th is already a great result in the first stage, by far the best result he had for my team so far.

We didn't loose anything today. Now, not to loose time again in stage 2. |

Second race of the season, second race we lose someone on the first stage. Castaneda: that isn't how to win a sprint.
One word to describe all that: Hrafjeijfjaefj.
Thank you.
Good night. |

Perfect first stage for our team. Our best rider stayed on time to at least pretend he is competing for the GC, while everyone else lost minutes which should allow them some chances in the breakaways. Actually really happy with how this worked out.

Would've been nice to see us in the breakaway, but can't complain. No time lost and Ricco/Meintjes are keeping right at the front of the bunch. Bodes well!

Interesting first sprint stage. For a while I was under the impression the pack wouldn't get to the escapees, but eventually they did it.
Congrats to Vontobel, he should be a good bet for the points jersey now. Anothe top report roturn, thanks!
