Good news for cycling.

Degenkolb is confirmed leaving Giant now. I feel so bad for Giant. Their team is basically dead and useless now. They raised these young riders and then they all grow up and leave. They have no one left. Dumoulin can win time trials and Barguil is a decent climbing outsider but he'll never get top GC placing. They have no one left for a WT squad. They gained WT status based on Kittel and Degenkolb and now it's coming back around. Hell, they even went from Dutch to German based on that! Really ad for them and I don't know how their team continues successfully.

@BBL - I heard they were gonna sign Micheal Matthews (a bit wtf i know) which would be a start. Losing Deg will free them a good chunk of wage to get one or two other guys. Plus a guaranteed WT licence for the next few years. Team will be fine if not what we saw from them in the past few years.

they both also leave after a bad season which is not due to the teams fault

Yeah but in Degenkolb's case there's not much he could do about the crash that wiped out half his season including his cobbled ambitions and the goals the team would have set for him there.

He's as faultless in that one as the team is and it would have been nice seeing him overcome that with them next season, but I guess now he'll go to a team that is better setup to support him on the cobbles.

Oh and with Dumoulin's progression and the addition of Ten Dam as one of their stronger climber's alongside the departure of Kittel and now Degenkolb it looks like the team is slowly going back to being a dutch team.

I wonder where Degenkolb will go, now he's available do you think he'd join the newly promoted Bora and stay in his home nation or is another destination more likely and if so where?

No need to worry about the team, they have room to sign new riders and the Matthews rumour is a strong one and he certainly is quality. Also Sunweb have stepped up from being a minor sponsor to a major sponsor so the teams finances are secure, that will help the team management bring in new riders to replace the ones who have left. Also with Sunweb stepping up I do wonder if the team will revert back to a dutch license.

I could imagine Sagan at Trek more than at Bora.
Degenkolb would fit in at both teams.

Personally I'd like Degenkolb at Bora.

Giant-Shampoo will need that new sponsor. Alpecin is very tight lipped about the issue and according to some media are not amused. We'll see.

On the other hand Geschke's contract runs till the end of 2018, Arndt's till 2017.
Also Giant-Shampoo announced that their delevopment team will be german-based. But than again talk is easy.

Me thinks that Giant-Shampoo should focus on holding Barguil and Dumoulin and hire some helpers for'em.

If they have a dutch, german or afghan license, no1 cares. In german public they still are a dutch team. In dutch public I think they are considered less a dutch team than LottoNL. They prolly gotta decide on one point.

Gilbert's future. Het nieuwsblad is heavily throwing names there!
Etixx, Astana, Fortuneo-Concept. Canyon (their knew Enduracne disc looks yummy!) and thus Movistar and Katusha. What an article!

But! They are usally very well informed about cycling.

Seems like they have found a new main sponsor for the next 3 years already: Sunweb, currently a co-sponsor. Giant and Renson would stay, being the secondary sponsors. But the bike supplier does have a clause in their contract.

Alpecin linked with Bora-Hansgrohe and Katusha, the latter wanting to - according to the article - present a new co-sponsor by the end of this week.

Oh thanks mate, haven't seen that one. Only occaisonally visit that side, am not a dutch speaker.

If Alpecin ends the contract with Giant due to the low numbers of german riders in their line up, sponsoring Katusha seems unlikely. If they wanna expand into the russian market, that would make sense tho.

That's a lie.

I've been told by cyclingnews and telegraff that Sky were going sign him.

Lotto is lying.

according to the Danish cycling media (Feltet.dk) Bjarne Riis is going to start a new team up with Lars Seier (Saxo Bank) again. Possibly already next year.
Riis should have been in contact with a lot of Danish riders such as; Chris Anker Sørensen and Jesper Hansen.
and oh... there has also been talks with Manuele Boaro... And Alberto Contador!

Contador to Trek is more or less confirmed.

Rumours have it that Katusha won't be Katusha next season and will be shifting identity away from being a Russian orientated team. As it currently stands they only have 8 riders under contract for next season and of that 8 only 2 are Russian being Zakarin and Mamykin

It looks then more and more that RusVelo will be the sole "Russian national team"

Not entirely unexpected, he was lacking results in the classics and he probably realised he'll never win a GT. A very good rider, but so many wasted oppurtunities..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Given all of the scandals over the last few months I don't think any sponsor would want to be associated with Russia.
