Cav nice ,what's happened to greipel?

He's not good alone in the position battle before the sprint. Unlike to Kittel and most Cavendish, he needs a superior leadout team.

You can argue the relative merits of TT wins versus chaotic (or during some of the HTC days not so chaotic) sprint wins but either way:

It's hard to compare the value of a stage win like that. I think you would need another statistic if you wanted that. Maybe " Most wins crossing the line alone" Pfft

Cavendish has to be respected for his 29 stage wins. Cycling has changed as well these last years. If you aren't a sprinter these days, reaching more than 15 stage wins overall in all GT's is almost impossible. Back then cycling wasn't so specialized therefor easier to win lots of stages, if you were a really strong rider.

So i guess my last point is, that this "most stage wins in TDF or all GT's together" will in the future(if it isn't already) be dominated by sprinters, and we might as well just learn to appreciate them rather than start picking their wins apart like this dude on Twitter is doing. Because it's the future in cycling Smile

Also, Greipel became the german rider with most grand tour stage wins, after his Giro appearence this year

hinault was most impressive of all the names mentioned because he didnt seem to care for stage wins. he gave so many away.

also because he won the bunch sprint in the champs elysees in yellow. name another guy to do that

Nicolas Frantz won the final stage to Paris, in Yellow, in 1928

not the champs elysees

and not a bunch sprint
there was no such thing back then
cycling was too disorganized for most of the peloton to finish any stage together

TheManxMissile
It's like saying "Cavendish won on the Champs 4 times in a row, therefore he is most impressive because no-one else has done that".

Hinault didn't win in a bunch sprint either, unless you count the single rider of Joop Zoetlemelk as a bunch, Pfft

Also didn't Lemond win the final stage and the tour on the Champs Elysses?

Time Trial, which he cheated to win, so that REALLY doesn't count Pfft

I guess i should also point out that Merckx won the final stage to Paris in 1974, in yellow Pfft

So Eddy, Bernard and Mark have all won in Paris in a Road Stage.... we need a new comparision Pfft

Look up a video of his GP Denain win earlier in the year, it was a crazily imprrssive sprint.

Which was not dis-similar to his junior national championship sprint victory in Brecon - class was shining through even back in 2010 Smile. Awesome to see him now making the big break-through at the top table.

Lemond wasn't in yellow at the start of the final day, Fignon was leading by 50 seconds and Lemond took that time back to take yellow by 8 seconds.

I guess I should've put Pfft at the end. Pfft

But what does the yellow jersey matter? Isn't winning the last stage in it just as good as winning it and the last stage together? And there are heaps of riders like Garin who would've done that if they had the yellow Jersey in the early tours.

Just one of those days ahead of the mountains. Get it over with. The sprints have been more exciting than I ever can remember in this year's Tour, but its cheap excitement. Too predictable, too flat, too boring. Will tune in to the last 20 km again.

Movistar looked great today. Moreno finally showing himself in 2016, his only focus has been the Tour and he comes into shape at the right time. Are the roles reversed and will Movistar be the aggressor in the Pyrenees and Sky on the defensive? I have that feeling that Quintana is stronger than Froome right now, he didn't look particularly good today. But only small signs.

Riis123 wrote:
But Froome has taken a different approach.. or has he? Thats the question. Your take that he just might sit on the wheel on Froome for as long as possible is viable and probably the most realistic, but after the showing today, I think Movi smells blood. They know they have the team and Quintana is definitely better than he has ever been. Meanwhile, Froome had problem closing that gap. I know its small things, BUT, I hope for a Movistar and Quintana attack on stage 7 or 8. Just to try him out. See where he stands ahead of Arcalis, the big showdown, Froome that is. But its just reckless speculation on my part, I like to do that.
Froome run as always on his watts. So you cannot read anything from.

Riis123
I can read all I want to read and this is not a 2013, scary, mutant, super peak Froome. And thats why Quintana is as favoured as him at this moment Smile
