It makes a joke of the Spanish legal system. Basically Messi has defrauded the Spanish government by about as much as an individual possibly could and yet he still doesn't get a prison sentence.

Basically anyone in Spain can now commit tax fraud as they know they won't go to prison for it.

Or, if they are found guilty just mention Messi's case and they will get off

I´m still not too sure in this case - we are talking about futies on 4 mio € - that´s nothing in comparison to what he´s earning, and it´s only a couple of % of the 4 mio what would be his outcome...so why would he do that?

I mean everything or nothing makes sense, but for Messi "only" 4 mio looks strange for me...

A few things here:

1. In Spain, from what I've read, jail sentences below two years are almost always given on probation (for people with clean records). If Messi were to go to prison (which is still a possibility if I'm not mistaken!), and I can't stress this enough, that would only be due to his prominence. Not the other way around!

2. He's still being punished. He compensated the damages (~4M€) and is supposed to pay an additional 2M fine, there's another 1.5M fine for his father. Sure, that won't ruin him, but fines aren't supposed to do that anyway. Usually, they're calculated by a certain algorithm involving the culprits income (at least here in Germany) and not set at an arbitrary amount. Messi should be treated the same.

3. It is also worth noting that the verdict isn't final, Messi has appealed it and is still pleading not guilty. I'm not arguing he is, but there's a chance he might actually not have known all that. Which of course would be at the very least naive, but then again, most people trust their fathers quite a bit.

But sure, let's slobber over the thought that one of those spoiled pricks that has it so much better than we do, which is of course terribly unfair, finally gets his just punishment, which is at the very least being gang raped in prison.

Note: Yes, I'm a big Barca fan. But what I'm an even bigger fan of is people not falling into a senseless slur the second they smell the opportunity to slam someone.

Also, I'm not a big fan of Messi as a person. He (probably) committed a crime, like many other people, and he should be punished accordingly, like all the other criminals. The fact that he is a star shouldn't make it any better or worse.

And while we're at it, I'm also aware that any judicial system is to some extent prone to corruption. I don't know if the Spanish more than others. But please consider that if something doesn't feel just, it's not necessarily the system that is corrupted or wrong. It might also be your sense of justice.

Sergio Ramos with the late header to draw "El Clasico" in the 90th minute. What a legend!!

Possibly the lowest quality Clasico that I've seen in a long, long time. Expectedly so, though, with the way both team (mostly Barca) have been playing lately. Amazing to see what an impact Iniesta had, the 20 mins after he came on the pitch were easily Barca's best during the last couple of weeks. Unfortunate that Neymar and Messi missed their big chances; the equalizer was incredibly frustrating but the draw is eventually a fair result I think, with the penalty that Real was denied and the slight advantages they had in the first half. Six points will be tough to catch up on, but not impossible. A huge improvement is required for that though.

It was widely reported across Spain that the FIFA World Cup winner would be heading to China to join Chongqing on a three-year deal, worth €81 million (A$129 million).

However, Barcelona sports website Sport is reporting that Australia, along with Japan, are 'tempting' Iniesta.

"The lack of an agreement with Chongqing has led Iniesta to study new horizons with Australia as the preferred destination," journalist Jordi Gil writes.
