Doing it that way is just as illogical, because it clearly benefit teams that dominate their home league, and play in a weaker league.
Most of those clubs have one thing in common. They are dominating their home league. I am no expert on most of those leagues, but in Barcelona and Real Madrids example they take in the youth players from all over the country, and then send them out again to the smaller clubs when they fail.
Show me a statistic over who has players in the big leagues and in the big clubs, and it becomes much more interesting. Not to take anything away from Ajax, but you can’t say Ajax has the best youth academy because they have a lot of players in NAC Breda.
And not to make this a nature vs nurture discussion, but most of the world’s best players are a good mix of both.
When it comes to the most impressive youth academies, I would like to mention the Basque teams. A region with 2,1 million people and, if they could participate, their national team could win the world cup.

I knew that both Partizan and Red Star had alot of young players in Europe, but had no idea they are 2nd and 6th in Europe. That's pretty sick!

Don't think you can say that Feyenoord and Ajax's youth academies are overrated.
Yes, it has been a while since they last produced top stars, but they've focused more and more on their youth academies in the last years. At some point, they were both in financial trouble(especially Feyenoord) and they obviously didn't have much choice, but now they're both in better financial state, it seems that the focus is still there.
For example, look at the past World Cup. I believe I read that there's no club that had more players that they produced in the WC than Feyenoord(obviously a lot of these were Dutch)
And look at the WC 3rd place. The team was really full of players that were produced by either Feyenoord and Ajax, with a lot still even playing for these clubs. Ironically, the ''star'' was not by either of them, but ok
It's difficult to see if there are potential superstars among the new generation of both clubs, but there's definitely a possibility. (For example, Stefan de Vrij was elected best defender of the WC by Fifa(Castrol ranking)).
Anyway, I realise I am biased here, but on the other hand, it takes a lot to get me to defend Ajax, believe me

Well, Ajax academy is considered the best worldwide for a long time, at least i remember it since the early 90s.

I do believe both Ajax and Feyenoord is highly overrated. The last world class player they have produced has turned 30 already, and I don’t see anyone close to taking their place.
The Ajax team of the mid 90s is legendary, but so is Man Uniteds.
Van der Vaart, Sneijder and Van Persie all under 32, Sneijder the one I assume you meant.
While I dont think he's world class, Vermaelen just joined Barcelona. Clasie and Martins Indi just joined Porto. Blind about to join Man United. Janmaat joined Newcastle, probably going to be a great move. Van der Weil at PSG. All those clubs bar Newcastle are major clubs in Europe atm, although Man United is not really doing too great the past season but I think they will probably be back to being in European football in the near future.
Both teams look like they are about to have another break through of world class players now. Some of them have already been signed by huge clubs, Rekik being a good example of that.
According to that list Feyenoord would be about 5th now, since they've sold half the first team this transfer window, almost all of them being varkenoord graduates
They maybe haven't provided any world class players in a couple years, but they are still producing pretty good players capable of starting in some of Europe's best teams.

The only youth academies worth mentioning are those of Ajax, Feyenoord, Sporting Lisbon and a bunch of Eastern European ones.
Barcelona had a generation of great Catalonian players coming through, but their current crop is mostly foreigners they bought from other clubs.
I highly doubt they are the only ones worth mentioning, that seems extremely biased. A team like Athletic Bilbao should also be mentioned I guess and a club like AaB must not be forgotten either, allthough they clearly dont have the finances like other academies. Over half of the team is from the academy and they just won the league a couple of month ago, counting young players such as Lucas Andersen (now sold), Kasper Kusk, Nikolaj Thomsen and others |

I love how everyone on here takes everything in such absolute terms. Obviously there are plenty of good academies out there, my point was that the academies of clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, City aren't worth mentioning when it comes to developing players. Rather it's embarrassing that they buy up every talented 13 year old out there and still can't produce decent enough players for the top leagues across Europe.

Apparently, Falcao signed for Real. Man, fuck this shit. How can someone, for fucks sake, ban Barcelona, when they didn't spend even half of what Real spent in past decade? This is just ridiculous.
