I've recently gotten into board games heavily. Been playing with a group of friends and have to say I love it.
We've been playing The Village, Lords of Waterdeep, Puerto Rico, Stone Age, Dominion, Mysterium, Whitechapel...
But now I've got my hands on Dead of Winter. What a fantastic board game! It really reminds me heavily on This War of Mine (video game), but even more fun.
Anyone knows it?
Anyway, this is a thread to discuss all kinds of board games. Are there people here who play board games regularly? Do you have a nice gaming group? What kinds of game do you play?
My favorites ones at the moment are Lords of Waterdeep and Dead of Winter.
However, I purchased Eldritch Horror and I can't wait to testing it out!
My collection: Stone Age, Citadels, Puerto Rico, Dead of Winter, Eldritch Horror, Power Grid, Ancient World, Mysterium, Lords of Waterdeep.

How have you not got Settlers of Catan? Absolutely must-own! Agricola is another one that you absolutely have to play. Those are my two staple board games.
I have played a bit of Dead of Winter, but I was playing with a couple of people who didn't really understand the concept so it wasn't as enjoyable as it should've been.

Already searching up some of these games, they look great! Although personally I don't like Catan that much, from my experience playing it, felt a bit slow to me, even though it's not really.
Any of you guys played robo-rally? One of best games especially if you're with a group of friends, it's one of those games were 90% of your plans to win turn into massive amounts of self-sabotage. Definitely my favourite board game out there. It's pretty old though, so not sure if they are still making it.
Aside from that my collections a bit boring with most the staples, surprised you haven't got Risk Ian, seems like the original really strategic board game (or maybe I just assume it is )

We try not to buy games another one in our gaming group has. So I've been buying games nobody else in my group has. Settlers of Catan is pretty common. Also not my favorite game, if I'm being honest, though.
Agricola is on my list, but last time in the store I decided on Ancient World over Agricola. Appealed to me a bit more.
Dead of Winter has to be played with the right group, I agree!

Haven't heard of robo-rally. Will check it out.
BTW great site for board games (imdb for boad games): boardgamegeek.com
Can only recommend it!
I've played the risk video game many times in my life, so probably that's why I haven't bought the board game (yet). Still have the video game, btw. |

Board game Risk is far better imo

No Ticket to Ride?
Shocking.

Seconded. Absolutely superb game.
Risk is so over-rated. It takes way too long and the end game is quite dull as whoever wins the mid-game just spends a bit of time steam-rolling everyone else.

am not sure if it´s really called a board game but "The Resistance" is absolutely amazing - especially with 7-10 players

Sounds interesting. Though I'm mostly a Euro Gamer. Thematic if possible.
Not a big fan of party games or tactical/strategic war games.
Anyone ever played Pandemic: Legacy?
Looks quite interesting but how does it play? |

I've played Pandemic, and I'm pretty sure Legacy is just a reiteration of that (the co-operative game, right?), if so it's an alright game but it's kinda a bit repetitive, the first few times you play it's good fun but a bit hard, then you and your friends work out a good strategy to win and suddenly it's a little boring, even if you put the difficulty at it's hardest.

Pandemic is a great game playing it the first time - but I guess you´ll play it 3-4 times and then it gets really boring...

One of my all-time favourites is Heroquest: interesting and really easy to understand, but only for up to 5 players, and the closer to 5 the better. Too bad I've got a rather little family that's not really into board games
Other ones I have always enjoyed playing are the Dutch version of True or False (2-6 players) and Targui (2-4 players)

I have not played Pandemic: Legacy but my good friend Gavin has recently finished the campaign over 18 games. The game changes between plays with upgrades, new characters and cards. So this is a new style of game that tries to address some of the replayability issues mentioned. This does mean you need a regular group of players to complete it.
I have played board games for years but not so much since my little boy came on the scene, I tend to play on the ipad these days. I am TwoBob on BoardGameGeek.
Shoutout for games to try
Carcassonne (tile laying) | Puerto Rico (resource management, No 1 game on BGG for years) | Conspiracy (bluffing) | Race for the Galaxy (deck building) | Dominion (deck building) | Flashpoint (co-op) | Hey thats my Fish (family favourite on the ipad) | Leader 1 (had to include a cycling themed game!) |
I am a Lord of the Rings fan and the prize of my games collection is War of the Ring Collectors Edition, a great game if you are into Tolkein.

Have you ever played Lord of the Rings?

An absolutely brilliant game if you have 4-5 people, but playable with 2-3 as well (4-5 would be my recommendation). It is a co-op game that requires you to work together and potentially even sacrifice yourself for the greater good. Really quite tough, even for experienced players, with a variable difficulty to make it even harder if you want. The first expansion is definitely worth getting as well.
Carcassonne is also a lot of fun. I have it on iPad, which works nicely.

My girlfriend absolutely loves Ticket to Ride. I learned how to play it and have beaten her every time. It is quite simple to win as you build up a few trains and then just play the block game when you can tell where the other player is moving.
Risk is also a game I am good at. my opponents often like to put 1 guy on each land, while I start the game with some 5's and 3's on most land. I won that game also.
But however, the best board game of all the times is MONOPOLY!!!!!

Monopoly is also my favorite, games of it and Catan can get you worked up
My personal favorite is Scotland Yard, but its not for everyone.
If anyone is looking for something you don't play in one sitting I'd recommend Axis and Allies, it's basically a much more complicated version of Risk

Anyone who enjoys Dead of Winter; I have put together a solo variant (with some story-writing focus) for the game. It's a demo, though, so anyone interested in play-testing it and giving feedback, very much appreciated.
