Philippe Gilbert has confirmed he won't be staying at BMC next year.

It's hard to see him going anywhere other than Lotto Soudal
Probably he'll go to FDJ, if Madiot can pay him. Astana is an option too

FDJ already lacking funds to pay both Pinot and Demare.

Demare is interesting..but go with Pinot this is at the moment only french rider who can be great at TdF

What a talent, what a rider. I love me so Bauke Mollema in the summertime. He is hilarious to follow in the mountains.

He must be the most uninspiring rider in the peloton. If not, who tops him?

And then you have Barguil, Latour and Bardet still grooming an ready to do great things. Maybe not necessarily win the Tour, but top-3 is plausible for all 3. In a somewhat weak Tour, even Rolland is if he can manage not to lose 14 minutes in the first week.
The puncheurs Gallopin and Alaphilippe would probably also be a little disappointed by that statement. So would Coquard and Bouhanni.

The French are so talented right now. Hoping for a g8 Tour.

2nd in T-A was pretty good right and isn't alberta a important to Trek?, of course seventh is a joke and even if alberta is important, not something to write home about winning it.

I remember Van den Broeck actually attacking on a few occasions in the Tour. Also a much more natural and gifted climber in his prime, now, not so much. He was unlucky he crashed in that 2011 Tour, it was tailor made for him and while the Schlecks rode like pussies and Voeckler made silly face in the yellow jersey, he could've podium'ed easily. The level in that Tour was baaaaad.

Give me a 7th in TdF any day over 2nd in T-A or 5 victories in Alberto tho. Much greater achievement.

Alberta isn't an important race for Trek, last year was the first time they had sent a team to the race in it's 3 editions

Matthews to Giant and Dagenkolb plus a couple of Doms to Trek https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/micha...t-alpecin/

If the rumours are to be believed then smart move by Giant to sign Matthews, he's quality and will get better. Does anyone know what the contract length was with Alpecin? German company who came on board with Kittel and Dagenkolb can't be to happy losing both the marque German riders on the team. Maybe we will see them bring in another sponsor and revert back to a Dutch racing licence

Matthews leaving Orica makes no sense at all. Why the fuck would they let go one of the two best Australian riders in peleton, considering that they don't have the other one? As you said he even still has room to progress. Is dispute with Gerrans that bad? If based on that article Gerrans' contract runs out, couldn't they just let him walk?

Alpecin can go out of sponsoring if "the team focus changes significantly". In Germany there are rumours that Alpecin will join Bora - Argon 18 to make it a WT team...

Not only Gerrans but the whole team thinks he's an asshole.

Also Gilbert to replace Matthews Makes Sense cause Gerrans and Gilbert are very good mates.

The Orica guys don't like Matthews? Gerrans is the guy who looks like an asshole from the outside perspective.

Dumb move from Orica to let Mathews go either way.

Maybe OGE don't have a choice in the matter, if Matthews wants to leave then why would OGE be able to convince him? Matthews isn't tied to the team just because he is Australian and they are a Aust registered team, look at how Matthews came through the system and you can see he was very much Euro focused. I think a team like Giant makes perfect sense to me, also OGE have plenty of you talented riders and relieving them of Matthews potential next wage bill will free them up to bring in some more help for Chaves and re-sign some other talents.

Also who mentioned Gilbert to OGE? Now that would be a waste of money

So they are some sort of Ajax of cycling? This is cycling, you need results and you need them now. Also that team is already lacking in quality, so letting Matthews go would make that roster even more empty. It's not like they're Quickstep where you have 4-5 leaders for cobbles alone.

Orica is simply refocussing. More climbers, less sprinters.
