Anyone using a heart rate monitor and wondering why the heart rate they observe when making hard efforts can decline as fitness seems to increase (and despite overtraining fatigue not being an issue) might find this interesting:

https://www.joefri...tness.html (see comments too for more insight)

https://www.joefri...-rate.html

I'm beginning to observe this myself - the level of perceived exertion is max, I'm going faster yet my peak heart rates are lower than in the past. It made me start to question if I was really trying hard enough at times despite perceived exertion being maxed out and then some!

What got me wondering in the first place is seeing the heart rate data of pro's on Strava - you soon see that barely any go deep into the red in terms of heart rate and that's probably to do with the effect mentioned in the blog articles above taken to another level of extensive/pro training (assuming their HR zones are accurately reflected in Strava of course).

Over the last 9 days, I've gotten 470 km in tha legs. Going to get 60 today, 50 tomorrow and 115 in my first race on Sunday! I live in Aalborg, I need to ride 10-15 kilometres South where its actually really hilly. For me, 1,83 at 66 kg, its naice. I can already tell my pace is much, much better compared to 3 weeks ago on the climbs. Hunting KOM's after the race until the Tour, there are some spicy climbs, including Rebild Bakke at about 1,8 km and 5-6%.

But thats not the best part. Here in Denmark over the last 2 weeks, we've had extremely good weather with 25 degrees and sun all day. So I look kinda similar to my idol MR. Yes, yes, I know I still have some ways to go, hopefully it will get even better in the coming weeks.

Hihi. Its Quintana v Contador for Le Tour, we both know it. Post a similar one and you got yourself a bet!

For the moment, I don't have one. My iPhone 4 is utter trash and can hardly run strava, but lilbro is getting a new phone so I get his old. I'll post it here at that point, so far, Im still fairly new to the whole thingy.

Most uninspiring ride I've ever done. 60 kilometres in strong headwind from point A to B in 2 hours and 40 minutes. I don't even wan't to calculate the average speed, horrific day.

You are putting in some solid k's matey, keep up the good work!!!

I have been recovering from a case of Mono over the last month and a half so been feeling run down and tired all the time, also lost 7 kg's thanks to it, meant to be riding as little as possible but did manage 1612 k's last month and 25,772 vertical whilst knocking off the Strava Giro challenege to climb 21,000 in 24 days. Can't wait to fully recover so I can go nuclear over winter down here in Oz

Almost identical to my ride this evening which was 55km in 2h and 30 minutes. Unlike you im happy with that speed (22km/h) considering the fact im riding a hilly parkour with a mountainbike. It must be said i didn't have to struggle with a awful headwind.

That average speed over hilly terrain on a MTB is pretty solid work

Ahh, mono is heavy. Hope you get back to beast mode soon. Remember myself being 191 cm / 64 kg. Just take your time, and you will get back in shape. Patience is your best friends in those times.

Thanks, but already behind on points, couldn't sleep since I was scratching my body every possible... danish skin pigment ftw Pfft

I might also have overdone it a bit. I want from oqccaiosnally doing 20-40 km rides (maybe 2-3 times a week at best) to doing 600 km over 12 days. My body is sore, but there is only one way forward.... asthma inhalers, here I come.

115 on 4 hours, damn it was hard Pfft

Went better than expected. It was basically an out-home route, 60 of them in very hilly and hard terrain. Very good for the morale that I felt somewhat good in the end, had no trouble following wheels really (not at all with the best obviously).

Probably going out on a training ride with a local club this week to try myself more out and get Strava if someone wanna follow a 21 year old thinking he can go pro 5 years too late Pfft

Epic day on the bike for me. 35 k/ph on 2 hours, I'm completely boned. Never played football, ran or cycled in that much rain, it was extremely fun (and HARD).

Me and my mate often ride a couple of hours at 25 k/ph, so needless to say 10 k/ph more at least is 2 steps up. I was dropped a couple of times, especially on the flats with the wind in the back, but managed to catch up, but it got harder and harder everytime. I employed the Cavendish-tactics, the sprinter tactics and the 'Im too fat to ride a bike' tactics', catching up on the descents, cutting corners. At one point I thought about quitting, I had spit all over my face, I froze, but pulled through.

It was my first ride, ever, in a club and they had an A, B and C team. The C team never showed up and the B team apparently took another route at one point so I had my work cut out since I had expected to follow the B-team on my first ride at least. Turned out differently and I will try to catch that next time since suffering like that, in red, for +1 hour was too much. It was fucking uncanny at times. I couldn't ever get time to eat something.

We ended the ride very close to my home over a hill (600 metres, 6% average) and after suffering and getting dropped a few times, I thought fuck it and just went in the bottom. Never, ever felt so much pain in my body, but it was a good feeling afterwards to realise I only had 1 rider in my wheel. Turns out my training on that climb (sometimes 20-30 times up and down on one day) was worth it. After having spit in my face and constantly reminding my self off I rather would be dropped than struggling to hold on with Mollema-esque aesthetics, I was reborn, suddenly dancing in the pedals. Contador, 2014, Gerardmer. BABY.

In the absence of any other replies yet here's my limited advice. First and foremost I know nothing about either of the bikes you are considering nor about the level or type of riding you are planning to do. I'm going to assume both bikes are suitable for whatever type of riding you are intending to do.

I imagine by the time you've got to this stage and narrowed it down to two there probably isn't that much difference between them. Therefore I would say go with the one that appeals to you the most. Which do you think looks the best so that when it's cold and wet outside you are more likely to say I want to go out and ride that thing. To me, at this stage, that will be more important than other consideration you can make.

Im on Strava. I made a rookie today and forgot to turn Strava back on once my brother crashed, riding on my wheel for what felt like an eternity or just 2 seconds. So only recorded the first 15 minutes, but the sight of him going down like that was worth it. Damn, we laughed. Especially me obviously.

I think Im on that Daily group. Name is Andreas Riis

Edit: And just got confirmed me, daddy and brother are going to Harzen. Just saw the climbs on Strava, its the real deal. Its not quite Alpine passes, but some are close to with 13 km @ 7,1%, 20 km @ 4,8 etc. Especially considering the hardest I've done by miles is Pra Martino. Can't wait to test myself out on decent climbs. Smile
