Criterium du Dauphiné 2016
superider2010
i watch cycling since 1999 and i never saw a massive sprint like in this stage
i think i saw 3 or 4 headbutts from cofidis+katiusha
i think from this guy these teams took their inspiration

Indeed this makes rider respectful and loved not just for fans ..but also in peloton. Every time Greipel wins there is almost a line rival riders who is congratulating him.

Other type , Rockstar type Sagan is also respected and loved inside a peloton.

Even cocky/ to fast sprinter synonym wearer Cav. was respected and accepted.

Little weasel Bouhani will always be alone.

Forever the Best
BouhanniCool
Also Katusha started the headbutts.

Im dead serious. GC-team trying to act like sprinting teams make the sprints much, much more tense. Have you looked at the replay? A miracle that Froome didn't cause a mass crash.

Anyways, its more of a comment to the trend itself. 10 years ago, it wasn't a problem at all. 5 years ago, it was worse but now, its seriously bad and dangerous. I just pray that nothing serious happens to either Froome, Quintana or Contador, imagine the fights on the first pan flat days when the GC isn't set. Its gonna be the wild west, a complete mess if today is anything to go by.

Maybe its my nerves, but the big GC-teams acting like sprint teams is making this much more dangerous that it has to be. Simply put, there isn't enough space.

I see.

unless you change your avatar, I just can't take you seriously Pfft

I don't think many on here take me seriously (I think some find me extremist), but it has been one of my pet peeves (along with mucho other stuff) for a while now. Im all in for wanting to see the best show possible, the best racing on the biggest stage, and this is one of the things which could hamper that if one or two big GC-contender crashes out. 5 km rule, por favor.

Making a different route, setting the GC early is another thing that could be done. Aint nobody want a Tour 2011 crash fiesta and backloaded to the extreme all over again, fx.

Not sure what you meant by that, since you named the best tour in recent years, crashes happen, but it also inspired riders to attack.

I've got Bouhanni in my Velogames team so good luck to him Smile

ryant: backloading GT's like that creates more tension since more people think they can win as they are closer to the maillot jaune. The first proper stage in that Tour was stage 12 and unfortunately, the Pyrenees that year was ridden extremely conservative such that the first proper GC stage (take a look at the GC before stage 18) was the one Schleck won to Galibier.

Thats why - > more gaps early on -> fewer crashes. The more flat stages without a proper medium mountain stage or a relatively long ITT simply creates more tension. This year, the Tour has done a good job in including a very well designed Massif Central stage (the best I can remember) already on stage 5.
Also, I think the Tour 2011 is the most blatantly overrated Tour. But thats a whole other discussion Wink

Arnaud Démare

In a pure sprint, Bouhanni is one level above Demare. I don't ever think he will be the sprinter that wins 1-2 stages every year in the Tour, Bouhanni definitely has the potential. Coquard seems like a better bet than Demare.

And I don't actually dislike Bouhanni. I have no problems with sprinters being arrogant and a little over the top, sometimes, he is takin it to another level, but meh. The sprinters are a weird bunch.

Oh yeah I agree. Watching it live I was puzzled why Froome was leading the bunch with 1 km to go when the safe zone is apparently 3 km and theres no need to push.
It would be ok if he knew how to ride in such a battle for position but seemigly he cant and its a miracle a masscrash didnt happen.
