Etixx really aren't stacked in the classics department, they have good riders but no standout leader which showed them up this year. Specialized want to keep Sagan as a brand ambassador seeing he is a global name so it's obvious he goes to a Specialized team so I agree with you that Astana look the most obvious choice at this stage.
Patrick Lefévère's problem is that if he wants to sign Sagan he needs to let someone go - specificly Tom Boonen. Boonen is the heart and soul of the team (much like Totti is for AS Roma or John Terry for Chelsea) and letting him go will seem strange. Lefévère also has to be cautious about Kittel and his aspirations for Maillot Vert.
Astana is the second team using Specialized bikes and Specialized want their biggest cash cow at the moment in of the teams they sponsor.
However should Sagan chooses to go elsewhere what options he has. A slim number of teams can afford his salary, but in some teams Sagan would need to battle internal shennanigans.
Trek is rumoured to snatch Sagan just to replace their beloved Cancellara. However they desperately need GC riders - Mollema and Hesjedal are cleary transfer flops for them and they made a huge mistake by letting Bob Jungels go. Segafredo are wanting more Italians.
Many want Sagan at Sky, but here he will be just Froome supporter and nothing else. Cavendish's short stint with Sky cost him a assured win in the Sprinters standings in 2012, but he rarely got any support at all with the Brasilford machine concentrated more towards Bradley Wiggins. What difference will be with new riders in the role - Sagan and Froome?
BMC? Greg van Avermaet is their leading man in the classics and I don't think that will change for the forseable future
From the current teams apart from the mentioned IMO Movistar can afford Sagan, but is there really any place for him in Eusebio Unzué's team and the fact that Unzue's golden boy Valverde is still around?

I think it's clear it's either going to be Etixx or Astana.
Trek would be in running, but Sagan gets 1m from Specialized, so Trek has literally 0% of signing Sagan.
Between Etixx and Astana it's a close call, but would be surprised if it's not Astana. Sagan and Vino are basically same spirit, and Sagan I think will adopt better in more Eastern team.
With Nibali gone I think Sagan is 99.99% coming there (I am pretty sure the contract is already signed). With Grivko, De Vreese, Boom there is a great setup for Sagan in classics. Sign him leadout man and it should be perfect combination.

I don't think bringing Bodnar and Gatto could be called "spending spree", considering that money spent on Sagan probably equals money gained from Nibali and Boom leaving. Also Agnoli and Vanotti would definitely leave with Nibali if that's the case. |

The Trek Dangenkolb rumour has been around for a while now, he would be a good replacement for Cancellara that's for sure but I wonder if it's Giant hesitating or Dagenkolb's agent looking for a better deal by going to the press, it's a tried and true method of getting a better contract for your rider

Of course you are right that they wouldn't cost much so yeah he could have them and has proven he doesn't need much of team to win a race, really interesting transfer period that's for sure

the premier german squad without german riders of fame, I mean Arndy, Fröhlinger, Geschke and Walscheid aren't nobodies but not of name like Kittel and Degenkolb. Lefevre said last year that he wanted to be seen responable for the resurge of german cycling (at least that how I read what he said) by making a team with Martin, Kittel and Degenkolb, is Ettix maybe in the running too? or is it  Lefevre transfer talk?
