4th?
It did look a bit European, but again this was a dart on the map, which is fun

I have the seventh best guess like every round, things were funnier last season. |

For some strange reason, Botswana was the first thing that luckily popped to my mind when I saw the picture. Could easily have been all other continents as well, that was a really hard one |

Yeah, not doing too bad since we have gone back to the wilderness.
I suppose the tree was the main clue here, native to SA? Really need to be more knowledgeable about tree species. / |

This round was pretty tough.
I searched a lot of places in Africa, but couldn't find an answer I was happy with. Then I found something similar in Brazil and decided to go with it. For all I knew it could be South America, Africa, South East Asia and Australia..
Congrats, Bjartne. Very impressive!
It's still a very open competition, I'm ready for the remaining challenges! |

Brewer can almost smell home at this point but he's been told he still has to be dropped off in three random locations and he's getting pretty pissed off about it. At least he has a chance to top up his tan in the middle of nowhere. Help.
You have until Friday evening, about 8pm British time. Yes, that's April 1st so I'm expecting somebody to send something hilarious like central Paris. Har har.

Plot twist: The correct answer is central Paris. |

Just the three submissions so far, all in the same country, perhaps unsurprisingly. This is going to be a matter of a couple of miles that wins it. So be precise.

Still only 7 submissions. You have about 5 hours to send something in if you want.

Good, the less people that submit, the higher I can move up in the rankings
I understand it is bad for the game though. lakebeach is probably following me around in the free candy van somewhere in that country

This one really was in the middle of nowhere. A desert wilderness, but one with a very well surfaced road running through it. The only real clue here was the general look of the place. The road markings, the vegetation, the mountains in the distance. It's all about geographical instinct. With interest in the game dying a slow death, let's find out what those that did submit answered.
| matt17br | Wheaton Springs, California, USA | | jseadog1 | Chinle, Arizona, USA | | Bjartne | Nothing, Arizona, USA | | lakebeach | Beatty, Nevada, USA | | Marcovdw | Neiva, Colombia | | afirm | Rio Rancho, New Mexico, USA | | Selwink | Loa, Utah, USA | | Bikex | Flagstaff, Arizona, USA | | The Rider | La Paz, Argentina | | AbhishekLFC | Fort Collins, Colorado, USA |
Only ten answered, including newcomer Bikex. Of those ten, eight were in the States and, more specifically, the Southwest of the country. Marcovdw was in Colombia and The Rider way down in central Argentina. In terms of states, Arizona was the most popular, with three people, including the only American, in the Grand Canyon State. Bjartne literally said Nothing, whilst the other states mentioned were California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. So, eight people were in a very similar area, which makes this very tight. If it was in the US, which state was it?
It was further North-east than most thought but not everybody. It was just outside La Sal in Eastern Utah, not too far from the border with Colorado. Selwink was the only person who thought it was Utah but that doesn't necessarily mean he was the closest. With both Arizona and Colorado not far away, was Selwink close enough?
| Selwink | 203 | | jseadog1 | 241 | | Bikex | 407 | | afirm | 416 | | AbhishekLFC | 442 | | Bjartne | 558 | | matt17br | 634 | | lakebeach | 673 | | Marcovdw | 5223 | | The Rider | 9076 |
He sure was. Selwink takes his first solo win, being just 200 kilometres away in Central Utah. jseadog1 was so close to getting the win in Northern Arizona. Bikex does exactly what Dippofix did and takes 3rd on his debut, denying leader afirm an extra 15 points by just 9km. Second placed Bjartne loses a bit of ground on the leader, while lakebeach finally loses significant ground to jseadog1 for the first time in 13 rounds. Marcovdw and The Rider made a big mistake but the positive is they still both finish in the top ten.
Just two to go now, so this table is definitely significant.
| # | Name | Rounds | Wins | Kms | Avg | Points | | 1 | afirm | 8 | 5 | 12140 | 1517.5 | 925 | | 2 | Bjartne | 8 | 5 | 3694 | 461.75 | 855 | | 3 | Marcovdw | 8 | 4 | 17401 | 2175.1 | 783 | | 4 | MARSUPILAMI | 6 | 4 | 17051 | 2841.8 | 729 | | 5 | Waghlon | 5 | 3 | 1451 | 290.2 | 670 | | 6 | jseadog1 | 8 | 2 | 24009 | 3001.1 | 553 | | 7 | matt17br | 8 | 2 | 52506 | 6563.25 | 534 | | 8 | lakebeach | 8 | 2 | 19931 | 2491.4 | 505 | | 9 | AbhishekLFC | 8 | 2 | 45967 | 5745.9 | 477 | | 10 | Selwink | 7 | 2 | 21127 | 3018.1 | 443 | | 11 | The Rider | 8 | 1 | 40188 | 5023.5 | 376 | | 12 | PeterRyder | 7 | 1 | 48069 | 6867 | 295 | | 13 | trekbmc | 2 | 1 | 195 | 97.5 | 107 | | 14 | Bikex | 1 | 0 | 407 | 407 | 55 | | 15 | Dippofix | 1 | 0 | 681 | 681 | 55 | | 16 | Luxemburger | 4 | 0 | 22636 | 5659 | 41 | | 17 | jihardy | 3 | 0 | 15965 | 5321.7 | 31 | | 18 | jandal7 | 2 | 0 | 33200 | 16600 | 16 |
afirm takes a 70-point lead in to the final two rounds but Bjartne can definitely still catch him with a strong finish. Marco's poor round means he will almost certainly need a correct answer if he wants the win. jseadog1 can still hunt down the two ahead who have gone AWOL and a top 5 finish is definitely still possible. Reigning champion lakebeach will still have his eyes set on beating his old rival even though it's now mathematically certain that he can not defend his title. Selwink moves back in to the top 10 but is still below AbhishekLFC, who continues to make quiet progress.
I want to say thank you to those that continue to take part, especially if you're just battling for minor positions. Way too many people have just given up in this series. Round 9 will begin tomorrow at some time. May be quite late.

I thought the vegetation looked very similar to the one I saw as I went to Las Vegas but apparently I was pretty wrong. |

Nice 3rd place against all the already well experienced GeoGuessr players.
Now seeing the exact spot I'm quite certain, I was at the exact same spot some years ago at a family vacation. |
