RIP Demoitie
Just look at this. Do we NEED to have this many motorcycles in a race? Not saying the motorcycle is guilty in THIS case, but this hasn't been the first incident.

Demoitie's family has given permission to donate his organs, what a wonderful thing of them to do in such tragic circumstances

Well Myngheer wasn't an accident but just one of those unfortunate things that happen in life but yeah it's still pretty sad

In an interview with Swedish media, cyclist Jonas Ahlstrand says that he was involved in the same crash as Demoitie on Sunday. He got hit by the motorbike but was lucky enough to get away with only a few scratches and bruises.
Apparently, he also was supposed to take a flight down to Brussels on Tuesday because he would race Dwars door Vlaanderen. Luckily, for some reason he decided to go by car instead.
He states that he managed to cheat death two times in a week, and that occurrences like these really give a new perspective on life. |

I think there is some mystery surrounding Daan Myngheer's death which no cycling fan is aware of. But then again I may be wrong.

You mean doping/drug related, or anything else?

Lets be honest here: We can't outrule it. Cycling exists on the cutting edge of sports medicine, and new doping is introduced regularily, and it's side effects wont become apparent until later.

He had some heart and blood pressure problems in the past, but it was ruled safe enough for professional cycling. Indeed we can't rule something like that out, but come on, what if his family visits this site and reads that a few people here are linking his death to doping not 24 hours after he died?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The Belgian tragedy keeps going on. Just so sad on all cases.

Welcome to the internet, people were spreading rumors Demoitie was dead long before it was confirmed. It's not something people want to consider, that doping could have played a role, but it has happened before. We know that some of these drugs have very detrimental side effects and riders have died before through dope related issues in races.
Obviously no-one wants that to be the case, but we're a cynical peoples for the most part.

If his family is visiting site dedicated to pc game instead of mourning, i will eat my hat and call them idiots.
Sorry for the tone, but you comment was ridiculous for me, we can speculate about what we want, with who we want...

Still on the motorcycle issue, I think they could cut down on the increased amount of those bikes. Police, time-keepers and Live-camera should be prio 1, then the "photo" bikes are just toooo many. Put a limit on that, and some crashes might be avoided.
It has been awaited that this fatal crash should come and just look at a normal race how many times motorbike rushes passed the peloton. Often scary.
Too many times small incidents happens, and this time is was fatal.
UCI should restrict them. Nobody needs thousands of photos on every angle and every situation along a 180km route.

Lets get some news not related to death for once:

Trentino-route. Nibali, Landa and Pozzovivo seems to be attending. I think there will be live coverage. Always a super good race! |
