General Story Discussion - PCM 15
Roextro
Here you can discuss stories that you are planning to write or you can comment on other people's plans. With the new pro cyclist mode expect their to be a lot of one rider stories on this year's edition of the game.

So what are you planning to write?

Definitely the pro rider idea is perfect for story writing and I'm debating getting it just for that feature. I think it's about time it came into the game as it'll make an easy way to make a story and to write it and stuff. Can't wait!

I am currently working on a video series of the pro cyclist mode, and want to share it with you guys. Would it be any interest in me making a single thread for the series? First video is already up on my YouTube channel. Smile

Quality first video mate, I think a thread would be a good idea

If it's a proper story, you can open a thread yes Wink

Once both a decent Cya and PCM Daily patch out I will attempt my first story. Be a pro mode addition makes it perfect for story writing. I think I will write a story about a British 10 mile Time trialer who then converts to a classics specialist or learns to climb.

I've read a few guides and read some stories but I have 1 question. Is there a preferred layout or a template to create stories? Thanks in advance!

The golden rule should be is it easy to read. Anything that makes the readers work hard to understand what your writing is an instant click away.

So, the one big mistake to avoid is having huge blocks of text. Wink

At the same time try to be original and create your own format and writing style. That's what makes you stand out from the crowd. Also, be aware that there are story writers (like myself) who will say something if you blatantly copy an original format from one of their stories without asking first. Since it was their original idea to begin with.

not really, there are some things some members prefer to see (for example; I prefer if images and text are centered while some don't)

Planning a Pro story, thinking of bringin a former rider back. Who would you like to see it based on?

A few that have popped into my mind are Jan Ulrich, Peter van Petergem, Mario Cipollini, Robert Millar, Fausto Coppi, Jaques Anquetil.

Let me know your suggestions!

Obviously they will be young at the start and building them up over the years.

personally I dislike "be a pro" stories using a real rider because I dislike the fact that people act like their are those people and make statements like it (a real petty reason to dislike those story, I know Embarassed )

though if I set this aside I would advise to not use people have passed away. seeing Ullrich in the peloton would be cool though

Coming soon to a Tips and Tricks section near you.

Mre's Checklist for a Successful Story

A beginner's checklist for those thinking about starting a story with tips and tricks on how to make it successful. Here's a small preview:

The Golden Rule: Popularity vs. Successfulness

This is going to seem counter-intuitive to what I just said, but many story writers follow a variation of the Golden Rule - "Only write a story if you enjoy it" (Crommy) or "Always write because it is fun, and because you want to!" (TMM).

Here's my variation of the Golden Rule:

Just write. If you like it then maybe someone else will like it too.

Not every story can be popular. That's why the Golden Rule is followed by so many writers. With that said, don't get confused. There is a big difference between being popular and being successful.

By default popular stories are always deemed to be successful. However, a story with fewer followers but continues to progress and give the community an opportunity to see your thoughts on a screen is still successful.

So, please I beg, keep that in mind. This checklist isn't "How to Produce a Popular Story." It's to help you build your own blueprint to create a successful story.

Hello guys!

I am willing to start a story with an innovative format, but I need someone's help.

This story would be a collaborative one. What does that mean? The planning, the objectives and all that stuff is made between me and the other person (if we are three, that'd be fine). Then, each one of us plays a month in the career and reports it in the forum.

You need to have free time, to want to start a story, to have Skype, PCM 15 and the 2016DB.

Is there a way to make sure the columns in a table are aligned "perfectly" like in this one?

Did you try putting the data in excel? Or putting a | after each bit of text aligns it as a table as well.

I always copy the data directly from the exported race results; so they always are in an excel. And sometimes they show up aligned well, sometimes they show up like this:

That'll be the formatting carrying over from Excel i believe, align cells from the left rather than center

Looking at the latest posts in your story, it looks like you sometimes close your [ center ] behind "Race Results", as you intend I guess, and sometimes you close it after the results in the [ table][/table ], which of course aligns everything in the table to center as well Wink
