This is all strange, considering her name in the sport, she is the superstar, the icon of the WTA shithouse, surelllllllllly WTA would have went up to her and warned her considering she was taking it all her life...
P.S. She was taking this 10 years ago, took WADA 10 years to ban. Makes you think, Sky must be ahead 1000 years when WADA bans them

It is that drug that was only put on the forbidden list 1 January 2016. Same as Vorganov.

And she tested positive for it after that date? I don't see the issue with the rules being upheld. |

Yes, she did. She tested positive like two or three days after in the Australian Grand Slam. Good job WADA. Ah, hang on. Did I say good job? It took you 10 bloody years to ban a substance! |

Easy around that one, don't take a banned substance.
"In Sept 2014 WADA released the 2015 prohibited list which also informed that meldonium was being included on the 2015 monitoring program. That program identified probable abuse and so in September 2015 WADA notified that it was being included in the 2016 prohibited list."
So it's not like she didn't have any warning of this being put on the banned list

What?
She is misusing the cure for the ilness she does not have, about time it was put on the list, shamefully we cant do that with all substances at once, as it should be.
Yeah, she has stories about family history with that ilness, but come on, can somebody sane buy that excuse?

I don't think I've ever seen a more ridiculous post. She's failed a drugs test. How on earth is that WADA fault?

I'm sad for Maria because this particular situation genuinly feels like an honest mistake.
Here is why:
It makes absolutely no sense to make such a mistake if you know you are taking something to boost your performance. If you are doing that you are making 100% sure that you don't get caught.
She got caught in her first tournament of the year that this substance is banned because she didn't play in Brisbane due to an injury which proves to me at least she had no idea it was added to the banned list.
She never based her game on endurance. She never moved well on court. It makes absolutely no sense for me that she would try to improve her performance this way. She's a ballstriker that plays short points you don't need performance enhancing drugs for that. She is not a Novak Djokovic or Rafa Nadal that base their game on insane fitness and durability.
Call me insane or gulible but I feel bad for Sharapova and i don't want her career to end like this. |

You guys are clueless. ITF, WTA and ATP have been covering up every positive test for years and years. You really think there is hardly any tennis players that test positive? And the couple that got out they accepted the defense that it was not the players fault but a contaminated substance etc..
So why would they suddenly turn around and go after not only one of the biggest names in the sport but one of the 2 most famous women in sports?
Many more big Russian names in different sport disciplines will follow.

Yeah I know they have been covering up positives so calling me clueless is so far off the mark it's not funny. The fact of this is that she was taking a bad substance and has admitted to taking it so it's on her, if she was clean then they couldn't hang her out to dry. Do I think it's right that she gets busted when the Williams sisters are running around? No! Buuuuuut she was still caught with something she wasn't meant to have in her system so I have no sympathy for her

She's admitted to taking this drug for the last 10 years. She has no medical condition or reason to take the drug so has been self prescribing it for the obvious performance enhancing qualities it provides. The fact that the drug wasn't banned doesn't hide the fact that she has been purposefully bending the rules to gain an edge for her whole career.
The fact she has been caught out is sheer stupidity on her and her teams part. How the highest earning sports star in the World can not be aware of the rules/changes of rules within her sport is ridiculous.
Only got herself to blame. She's hoping that by crying in front of the camera's she'll be let off with a slapped wrist and a minimal ban.
But she's only 28 so she should have plenty of years to come back after her ban. |

I like how Russia have been cheating for years but this is all WADA's fault according to you. What kind of propaganda are they feeding you? |

It's not like Russia/USSR has a long history of doping in nearly every sport going. So clearly this is just a misunderstanding and a witch hunt. To think it's anything else other than a poor little girl being picked on by the monsterous Western authorities is just laughable.
I mean it's not like the iTF/WTA/ATP and WADA have banned non-Russians for various offences before. All they ever do is pick on those from Eastern Europe. Quite frankly it's disgraceful. They should be shut down and replaced with goddamn heroic Reds.
For the Proletariat, Commrades! To arms! To arms! Fight for the innocence of Mother Russia!

*fires from battlecruiser Aurora*
Btw. Sarapova was warned about the situation by both WADA and russian agency during last months of 2015 as reports say. So it is only her fault (and her team) that they ignored that.
Also, she has no medical reasons to use the substance for 10 years, stories about family history of diabetes and her lack of magnesium are only for dumb people. There are like hundreds of ways to increase level of magnesium in your body that are better, if your main goal is not performance enchantment at first place.

From what I heard, it's not the ITF's responsiblity to cover up, but rather the athlete's his/herself's. So instead of faking an injury (like Cilic did a little while back), she just came out to announce she really had tested positive.
