Café Pedro 11: The Spammish Inquisition
Avin Wargunnson
Well, i dont think they are just doing it for themselves, but because there is demand for it, like it or not. Hollywood is factory on dreams for more than 100 years because people want to dream and actually it helps them to forget how lowlife they are in comparsion with heroes of some of the movies. Some movies for a change portrait how miserable life can be...if you want to blame someone for Oscars being show of money and pomposity, blame people who demand something like that.

About Di Caprio, he actually is something more than usual mortal, as he is brilliant in what he does for living and that is being an actor. Not many of us are so good in what we do like he is. Smile

Please, it's not a factory of dreams, it's a propaganda machine, designed to keep people stupid and implement very wrong ideas.
And decadent shows like these are the top of the bill. Where we actually celebrate those rich pr*cks, we so look up to them!

Noam Chomsky's big tip to human kind is: turn off your television. The man is right. It fucks with our brain, more than we could even think Smile hollywood ruins so much more than we can imagine. Not only romance, but also our ideas about politics, ecology...

Time to wake up Smile

But I agree. Not many are as good bullshiters as DiCaprio, he's very good at what he does Pfft

Avin Wargunnson
I am very well aware about what Chomsky says about lot of things, but i actually found many of his teachings a neo- anarcho-marxist bullshit. Pfft

He is a wise man and great scientist though, i just dont agree with some of his theories and what he thinks about society.

He has point here and there, but actually dont have a clue about how so many people can actually live upon his theories in real life. That is problem of many philosophers of modern age (and actually all ages).

About Hollywood, you have a point, but you have to understand that people are actually predestined by centuries to act like bunch of sheeps and television is only next part of the chain, something like modern religion. But who should be blamed? Actors? Come on ,these are last people to blame here, they are just doing their job and supplying the demand.

Problem is (as with other ideas by Chomsky) that you cant force something on people if they dont want it. You cant come and tell people "you are stupid sheep, turn of your television and start thinking freely, use you brain and you will!"
Some people just dont want to think, they want to be deaf and blind, because that actually makes them feel safe and secure in their lifes. It is sad, but that is how i see it after i turned realist from naive guy during my life. Just be happy you are not like that majority of sheeps.

Also there are people who can enjoy good movies and are not buying everything that television brings. Movie is just another form of art, like book, or music. You should also differ between movies and other shit that television brings like commercials, news and reality shows.

You make some good points.
Which I respect, but don't agree with Wink

It's true that many people need hollywood, and it is just another chain.
But that doesn't mean I will accept it. And I won't until we've thrown off all our chains. And that day may never well come, but I won't just "accept reality".

And the actors are at fault. The hollywood bosses are at fault (even more so), we are at fault. Everyone's at fault because everyone's participating in it, but that matters little. What matters is that we get people to see it, and then I'd like to see what happens! Smile

Avin Wargunnson
Good luck with breaking all the chains Ian, but first make sure that those chained are actually wanting to be unchained. Because with freedom of though and actions, there also comes responsibility and unstability. That is why think majority is rather happy with their preset frames and scopes, the world is simple, the living in it is simple. We work, we produce, we shop, ,we consume.

What do you want to offer to those unchained? Are you sure you can offer more than Hollywood and shopping malls, more than warm arm of sweet ignorance?

Well. I'm offering the world Smile literally.
As you probably know, the current system is leading to our own doom, it's inevitable.

The banking system is rigged. Money is debt, there's no way around it.
Nature is being raped further and further to the point where we can't repair it anymore.

In rare moments in my life, I was in the mountains in France (on vacation). With some friends, far away from all the pressure of everyday life, in nature.
And only then you have these moments when you are truly awake and realize you are a breathing animal. But we are domesticated.

I'm sure it's a near-impossible task. But the alternative... It's unthinkable. We can't keep living like this. It's bound to end brutally one day.

Check out the die hard socialists Pfft

I loved the amount of awards Mad Max picked up! Throuoghly deserved as that film was a visual delight. Plus it kept Star Wars at bay, which is a nice bonus. Slightly dissapointed Room didn't get more awards but at least Revenant didn't get BestPicture, yay for Spotlight.

The solution to all problems is very easy: Stop procreating.

The next best thing would be to reduce meat consumption. The production of meat uses much water and corn/crop and it adds to pollution and world hunger. It will not hurt you at all because you can still continue your daily life. I am not talking about becoming a vegetarian but don't buy meat or meat products so often. There are great dishes from all around the world without meat, for example pasta, pizza and curry (thai or indian) tastes great no matter what's inside.

Sounds like you guys should watch the award winning "The Big Short", then you'll be pissed off at the banking system. Follow that up with the award winning "Spotlight" to get angry at religion. Keep rolling with award winning "Winter on Fire" and "Cartel Land". Top it off with "Mad Max Fury Road" for a glimpse at what we are heading towards.

Then either recover with award winning "Inside Out" to cheer you up, or if you want to get more depressed watch some more human savagery with "Room".

You can cover so many topics off of Oscar films Pfft

The Rider
Ian - I really am no avid follower of DiCaprio or Hollywood for that matter. However, I know he did play a large part in promoting the 'Virunga' documentary, which was really one earth-shattering piece of work which, I don't doubt, will play a part in leading people to become more ethically minded the world over.

But you are right, it is sad that so many people are divorced from the environment and ignorant we live in a biosphere, which no doubt in some large way is due to people having their 'panem et circenses'.

Sadly these are all bullsh*t films, more propaganda (though haven't seen all of them, can't be sure).

If you want the truth, you'll have to look elsewhere, Hollywood won't help you there. They keep the lie alive at all costs Smile

Lachi - yes, the meat industry is one step we'll have to take. But same for metal industry and so many more. Industries are such a filth, it's criminal.

And TMM, please don't call me a socialist. I really don't want to be political. I'm just a human being, all for the world and its inhabitants. All against the poison, chemicals, lies and mass murderers Smile

Jeez, sorry that entertainment's existence offends you so much. Honestly, isn't PCM just propaganda from those rich pricks at Cyanide then? Of course there are certainly malicious douche bags out there in Hollywood, but come on. If you're so worried about the evil man controlling you, don't watch. What do you care what happens then? Personally, I didn't watch the Oscars; I couldn't give a crap about them. But I also don't care what other people do with their own lives. You're going to have a hard time convincing other people that they are better off living the way you want them to, rather than how they feel comfortable.

At least we get to choose what we see in our movies or if we see them at all. Tell me how this "Hollywood Propaganda" is somehow better than countries where all the entertainment they get is actual government controlled propaganda. And just a side note, a lot of those countries are socialist.

And come on, if you really delve that far into Hollywood that it can control you, that's your own stupid issue. If you actually let Hollywood influence how you go about your daily life beyond how a movie may make you feel for two hours, you must be pretty damn impressionable. And don't say that they are subconsciously controlling our minds or something. Again, a person of any substance is not that dumb. They are much more likely to be combative toward conflicting political or social ideas they see in Hollywood (like yourself), than blindly conform. Some people do, and once again, they are dumb, and that is their problem, not yours or mine.

Hey, if you wanna become Thoreau and live alone in nature, good for you. That's what you want, and who am I to tell you not to? But you aren't going to convince other people to do it. And if you do, aren't you just brainwashing them more? Isn't your message just as much propaganda, just one that you perceive as "the right way." Personally, I believe people should be able to live their own life the way they want within the scope of the law. People are not the same. It's illogical to treat them as such.

If you can call something "Propaganda", you're 99% not the one affected by it. Also this:

Some people do, and once again, they are dumb, and that is their problem, not yours or mine.

But once they behave like idiots, it becomes my problem very soon.

And if you do, aren't you just brainwashing them more? Isn't your message just as much propaganda, just one that you perceive as "the right way."

Propaganda by definition is the "systematical" forming of public opinions. Tbh, I don't think that Ian does this systematically.

All in all, you didn't quite get the concept of Propaganda, it seems to me. Please stop using a word, unless you really know what it means. PCM is by no means Propaganda by Cyanide  .
Also(sorry for the small upcoming rant), could people PLEASE stop this: "I don't really care and it's none of my business, BUT..."

If you REALLY don't care, ignore it.

I, for instance, care about how people live their lives, because it also influences people around them, resulting in maybe influencing my life. My problem could be, that I care to much and that I get quickly annoyed by the people, who don't really think when they talk(no offence to anyone here, just a general thing).

This coming from a person that said among many many things "iPhone users, think that they're better than others" ? I guess we could really divide the world now in half rather easily, Iphone high class and Android plebeian scum.

You insult people because they don't want to play video games on PC, but prefer doing so on Xbox for goodness sake......

I agree with the gist of what you wrote, but the above it's veeery rich coming from you, you made so many idiotic comments that all viewed as derogatory. What you wrote above reads well, but when it comes to thinking when talking...I am not sure you practice that as well.

BBL: thanks for your reply. I have some comments on them so I'll list it below to make it easier to follow. It's not meant as an attack, but a list of numbers can look like a list of attacks but that it is not. Just a reaction to what you said.

1. I happen to care a great deal. My main reason for this "outburst" is great concern for the people around me, for the world and its population. It'd be easy not to care, but I do.

2. Right on the spot. Damn hard. And if that was it, I wouldn't bother. But the problem is we're not going to be comfortable anymore when the water runs out, when we're starving to death Smile I'm not against comfort at all, but it's the future I'm worried about. (and what's happening in poorer countries right now)

3. Of course, it's even worse in North-Korea for example. But Hollywood controls a big part of the world and has been controlling it for over 100 years. It's a dangerous machine that's ruined a great many thing already. I could send you some articles about that if you want, just pm me.

4. A single movie doesn't brainwash you. But hollywood controls much more than you think. It's all the movies, all the series... If you're a kid and you're watching all this, be sure it makes a big influence on your life. Just look at the way people look at romance these days. Pure hollywood and it doesn't work that way.

5. It would be tempting. But I couldn't. I love the people around me too much and I want a better (a sustainable) world for them. I could get out of this society, but I rather see society take responsibility so I can stay Smile

6. Propaganda is repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. I'm just saying what's on my liver. That's it. I'm not trying to force anyone to take over my ideas, I'm just trying to get people to ask questions. Not offering a solution. I wouldn't have one, anyway. The problem is way too big for one person to solve.

7. I'm not. Really, I'm not. And I find it sad you see me as the "enemy" of choice. I'm all for people's choice and people's happiness. I don't believe we're happy being born in this fascism and definitely don't have any choices. We are economic slaves to the banks and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Lastly, like I said before, this is not an attack or whatsoever. Just wanted to clarify some points. I'm not against people, I'm for them. I am against the big banks, the ridiculously rich and the corrupt politicians. I am all for the world, the people, communities, nature... Even though we clearly disagree, please don't see me as an enemy Smile
