6th for Valvefde, but at least he won the worlds.
12th for Nairo is good a top ten would have been good to end the season though

Thanks TrekBMC. Yeh Valverde did well in his new jersey! And yeh Nairo would've like to do better but at least we had one rider in the top 10 and 2 in the top 15!

Hey guys! The new season has finally arrived. It’s the 6th of January at the moment. We are all on a training camp at the moment. We finish the day before the Aussie championships which the whole team goes there to support the Aussies on the team and so we can actually watch a cycling race while we aren’t racing. I bring you a report of it each season and it won’t be any different this year! With 6 Aussies in the team this season we have plenty of talent and have a great chance of winning.
So as you know the transfer season happens each season. This year we lost 6 riders and gained 4 (6 if you include the 2 trainees). We lost Giovanni Visconti who has been a main rider in the team for many years. He will be missed greatly! We obviously had to replace this fantastic Italian puncheur so we signed Michal Kwiatkowski. The Polish Puncheur who has come to the team to replace the Italian. Below is a full overview of all of our singings and riders that have left.
Also as you know each season the team and each rider has to work out Goals and Objectives for the season which affects their race schedule as well. Well we have worked out mine and this year we have decided that I will be going for the Grand Tour Triple. It is going to be very difficult but it is doable. If Alberto Contador can do it I can do it, especially when he will be going to every GT with me to give me guidance and support. Also Valverde and Intxausti will be taking turns going to grand tours. The World Champion with 2 out of the 3 and Intxausti most likely 1 out of the 3. This is going to be a very hard year! I am going to need a lot of support from my fans. At the end of the season I also hope that I can win the world championships. Valverde has it this year and after going to 3 grand tours I don’t know if I will be able to achieve it but it is worth a shot!
My full Schedule is also ready to be shown. Here it is!
Race | Race Days | | | Tour de San Luis | 6 | Paris - Nice | 8 | Tour de Romandie | 6 | Giro d'Italia | 21 | Route du Sud | 4 | National Championships | 1 | Tour de France | 21 | Tour de l'Ain | 5 | Vuelta a Espana | 21 | World Championships | 1 | Il Lombardia | 1 | | | Total Race Days | 95 |
Final News, we have a new co-sponsor for our team. I can’t reveal anything though as I don’t even know. The management said that it will be realised to the public with the New Jersey after the Aussie national championships which means we will be using the old jersey for the Aus Champs.
Bye
Nairo

Some very good additions to the team although you also lost a few good riders, I think it went pretty well.
Good luck with three GTs in one season.

Thanks guys!! The team added some top riders this season!! Hopefully they can help the team out in top form!
9th September 2014 – History Being Made!
In the year 2014 Nairo Quintana entered the history books for the first time. This was the year that he won both the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a Espana in the same year doing what cyclists call the Giro-Vuelta double. Both of the races he won by over 10 minutes to 2nd place. He beat Fuglsang by over 13 minutes at the Giro d’Italia with fellow Colombian Rigoberto Uran taking 3rd. In the Vuelta it was Carlos Betancur who came 2nd by just over 10 minutes with 3rd place going to Samuel Sanchez. There are many things that make a rider remembered over many decades. For people like Eddy Merckx it was the versatility of the rider. For Nairo Quintana it is the fact that he can win a Grand Tour by over 10 minutes without doping and always keep the sport of cycling clean! Without Nairo Quintana cycling wouldn’t be the same as it is today! There is a picture below that has survived all this time from the last stage of the 2014 Giro d’Italia!
The Australian championships are always a great race to watch! It always makes for a very exciting race as well. We have a strong team here this year trying to get Rohan Dennis or Leigh Ridenton the victory. If Leigh Ridenton wins it will be his 2nd victory in the Aus Champs in 3 years! He’s only being racing professionally for 3 years!!
The race route is the same as usual around Buninyong. The route is below.
Well we are here to win!
All 6 of our riders at the front of the peloton. Cantwell and Palmer are doing the pace making.
Rogers attacks and Ridenton follows along with Gerrans and Goss. Only 30km left and the breakaway has 3’19.
Matthews attacks not long later. Gerrans, Goss and Ridenton follow closely.
The leading 3 with 2.5km to go. Goss, Matthews and breakaway rider Vuksich. Ridenton is in the group behind which is 39” back.
Michael Matthews manages to out sprint Matt Goss for the victory and the title of Australian national champion! 3rd is Vuksich and Ridenton manages to sprint to 5th just behind Simon Gerrans.

13th September 2014 – In Memory of His Father
The year 2014 continued to be Nairo’s year. Only 3 days after his 2nd Grand Tour Triumph he had to go through a big emotional barrier, the death of his father. Nairo Quintana’s father died and he then had to deal with this big barrier in front of him. Nairo was scheduled to race the next day in the first of 2 Canadian classics. Nobody forced him to do it but he arrived at the start line. He didn’t look like himself at the beginning of the race though. His team was all around him but he just didn’t seem to be himself. With 40km to go though Nairo suddenly looked like himself, no, Nairo looked better than his usual self. He spoke to the team and got them organized and with 20km to go attacked out of the peloton and nobody saw him again until the final straight where he had his arms pointing to the sky. In the interview after Nairo said “I was grieving at the start of the race, somewhere in the race though I decided that I would win this for dad. I organized the guys, Visconti said he would help. Visconti attacked, I followed and it was done. This race was for my dad!” The final line of that interview changed the view of Nairo Quintana forever.
The Tour de San Luis is a big week long stage race in Argentina. Every year it brings a strong group of riders for the GC and the sprints. This year will be no different.
The stage of the first day is mostly flat and should end in a large bunch sprint.
Ridenton had come along as our sprinter. He could definitely win today’s stage. We will be trying to set him up.
3km to go and Ridenton is on the wheel of Raymond Kreder. Trentin is also in this group and is the top sprinter here.
Trentin takes a massive victory! 2nd is Markus and 3rd Dehaes. 4th is Kreder and Ridenton is 5th.
I finish in the peloton.

Good for Ridenton to get some results
Did that really happen to Nairo's father. How sad I did hear the story about how Luis was disabled though...
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

I'm not sure what actually happened to Nairo's father so I just sort of went with the flow.
And yeh Ridenton has done a great job! He is really riding like a pro!!

February, 2014 – The Happiest Day of Nairo’s Life
They say getting married is a man’s luckiest day of his life. The same can’t be said for the birth of a child. The birth of a child is a blessing and a gift and is commonly known as the happiest day of someone’s life. Nairo Quintana got to experience this day in February of the year 2014. The birth of his daughter Mariana Quintana happened and it changed Nairo’s life forever. He went into everything with a different attitude that he used to have. Everything no longer seemed like a challenge for Nairo. After everything he has been through in his life he breezed through a lot of things with ease. Nairo Quintana is, and always will be, a legend of cycling!
The Tour de San Luis continues today with another flat stage. 174.7km in length today so a little longer then yesterday’s stage. Ridenton did well yesterday but hopefully he can improve today. A small hill kicks up in the final km today so Ridenton could do well with his higher hill skills then some other sprinters.
Hopefully we can get a ride in the breakaway and then set up a nice sprint train in the final kilometres.
It’s Nathan Haas that breaks away early from the peloton.
Haas was soon caught after. A lot of attacks went off the front but it wasn’t until around 20km later that a breakaway of 3 final got out of the pelotons grasp. The group includes Cusin, Perez Moreno and De Angeli. The peloton is 5’18” behind.
With 12.5km to go our sprint train was the first to appear. The order was Amador – Castroviejo – Me – Ridenton.
With 3km to go Ridenton just decided to go off my wheel. I was very tired but it is way too early for Ridenton to sprint.
Less than 500m to go and it is so close for the stage win! Trentin, the overall leader, vs. Colbrelli, the Italian.
But it is the Overall leader Trentin who takes his 2nd victory of the race so far!
Colbrelli 2nd and Pelucchi 3rd. Ridenton managed to sprint to a great 6th place!

Well a pretty good race from Ridenton. He improved on yesterday which is what we wanted. I lost no more time heading into the hilly stage tomorrow so we are in a good place heading into the grunt of the race!
Seeya tomorrow

Present Day – The reason
When I first started writing this book on our hero Nairo Quintana I was hesitant. Would people read a book on a Colombian cyclist? Would be even know who he is? After asking myself every imaginable question I decided that Nairo changed lives and therefore he is the only logical person to write this book on. When Nairo raced so many years ago he rode with not only strength and finesse, he did it with spirit. The type of spirit you only find in 1 in every 1000 people. Nairo really was a special person. To the cycling world he was the best cyclist the word has ever seen. To his family he was a brother, a son, a friend and to the outside world he was whatever they saw him as. He was a hero, a villain, a friend or even a leader. He was anything to anyone. Nairo is a kind of person you only meet once in a lifetime.
The 3rd stage of the Tour de San Luis takes us into the hills. I want to take charge here and really show people that I can do the Grand Tour Triple this season. I am aiming to win!
Rider in the break, I want the victory while losing as little energy as possible.
Haas attacked wanting to get into the break of the day.
Ridenton outsprinted Trentin for the intermediate sprint.
I attacked with 3.5km to go.
Vanendert takes the win ahead of Froome and I come in 3rd.
