Worst Cyclist of the Year

Taylor Phinney for me

Really?! He spent most of the year recovering from his major injury and only came back to racing in August. Since then he's won two races (including a World Title) and podium on two more occasions. If anything he's been one of the more impressive riders considering he's lucky to be riding at all

Worst in terms of just general ability: Juraj Sagan has always annoyed me.

Worst in terms of a disappointing season: I don't want to say Kittel because he at least did win something, whereas the likes of Demare or Betancur did not. And between those two Betancur was by far the worse off.

Somehow I have missed the origine of his injury. What was the cause of it, what happened? I know he's been recovering for a while, but never knew why, actually.

Demare won two stages of the Belgium Tour, so he kinda won more than Kittel Wink

Major crash during the US NC RR last year. Had to avoid a moto and nailed a guardrail at something like full speed on a decent

Demare probably wins this thread for 2015 as he`s a kind of Degenkolb type rider that has the ability to both win sprint stages and longer classics. This year though he`s showed that he`s nowhere near the level of Dekenkolb.

Not sure why Betancur is being mentioned as nobody expected him to do well this season, if anything though he actually rode quite well in the Giro.

Yeah, but the level of competition in sprints there was pretty low (Mathieu Van Der Poel got a top 5 for crying out loud), and he also failed to finish that race.

Don't underestimate Mathieu Van Der Poel.
On a tough finish, the boy is amazing.
If he finishes top 5, that doesn't mean the field is weak. It just means Mathieu means business Wink

That goed for all crossers, in 2012 in that race Kevin Pauwels defeated Gilbert, Firsanov and Westra in an uphill sprint to claim 2nd after Betancur. It's not because you're a cyclocross guy that you're a joke on the road Wink
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Indeed. Van Aert also showed promise on the road this year.
Pauwels was very good in that Belgian RR that Devolder won two years ago.

And even so, Van Der Poel was WC on the Road with the U23 in Firenze. So he's not just anyone. Actually I think he's one of the most gifted riders around. I would put him almost next to Sagan.

I'm trying to work out what how to couch the discussion in this thread, are we talking about the actual worst cyclist this year or the most disappointing cyclist? I'm also confused as to how Alak got to this before Udoi

One thing I do know is we need a poll with at least 15 maybe 20 options Wink

Most disapointing was Veikkanen, he didn't win the Finnish national championships. Sad Pfft

For worst I agree with Dusen on Carreterro. Pfft

For sure Ramon Carretero. He didn't finish any races beside Tour of Turkey which funny enough was the race he was busted in a doping control.

Hey, he's making progress. Looking at ProCyclingStats, he didn't finish a single race last season, so it's improving Pfft

In all fairness Boss has always struggled on the road, Goss is a different (alcohol, lazy) story altogether

Bos usually wins around 5-6 races each year. But his crash record this year is impressive. I think he crashed hard in every race he started this year.
